Warner Bros. lifted the review embargo on
Shazam! much sooner than expected, and that seems to have paid off for the studio in a big way because the response to the latest DC Comics adaptation has been overwhelmingly positive.
For further proof of that, look no further than
Rotten Tomatoes as the review aggregator has announced today that
Shazam! is officially "Certified Fresh" with a score of 93%. The current Critics Consensus reads:
"An effortlessly entertaining blend of humor and heart, Shazam! is a superhero movie that never forgets the genre's real power: joyous wish fulfillment."
While this score is subject to change over the coming weeks, it's hard to imagine the movie's percentage dropping at this point, and it wouldn't be remotely surprising if it ultimately goes up!
We'll have to wait and see on that front, but Shazam! director David F. Sandberg has shared his thoughts on the news and is clearly proud of how well the movie is doing. With any luck, Warner Bros. and New Line will be quick to sign him up for a sequel once those opening weekend box office numbers come in.
