We told you earlier this week that the race between Spider-Man: Homecoming and War for the Planet of the Apes would be close, but Caesar has emerged as the true box office champ this weekend in North America. With an impressive $56.5 million debut (which is admittedly down from initial estimates of $60 million - $65 million), the critically acclaimed threequel has emerged as the winner.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, on the other hand, has taken second place with $45.2 million. That's a 60% drop from last weekend's spectacular opening and a bigger dip than Sony Pictures would have liked.
Things aren't looking too bad for the wall-crawler, though, as its current domestic gross is $208.3 million. What that means is that after just two weekends, Spider-Man: Homecoming has already made more than what The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did in its entire theatrical run. That's a big improvement!
