Liev Schreiber Explains Why INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Is "Going To Be Pretty Special"

Tom Holland's Spider-Man will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Infinity War this May but that's not the only wall-crawler who will be swinging his way on to the big screen this year. Miles Morales is set to get the spotlight in Into the Spider-Verse, a trippy looking animated offering which is set to compete with the likes of Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns this coming December.

The Sony Pictures movie has assembled an impressive cast, with perhaps the most exciting addition being Ray Donovan star Liev Schreiber. In a new interview, the actor refused to reveal who he's playing but did shed some light on what appealed to him about the project and why we should be excited.

"It was actually the animation team. The guys who are working on it, I saw their work and said, “Wow! These guys are special.” And it is. It’s going to be pretty special, from what I’ve seen so far. And I haven’t seen much, but it’s pretty special. They’re super-talented. … That’s what I love about it. But it also is anamorphic … ohh I don’t know if I should have said that. [laughs] If you know something about film, that’s an amazing thing for an animated film to do that well. Anamorphic is the stretched-out format and it really is a much broader, bigger canvas, which is unusual for animation because you’re generally trying to focus the action. These guys have decided to go anamorphic with it and it’s stunning. If you’ve seen that trailer, you already get a sense of what it is."

Despite the fact it's not being produced by Marvel Studios, Into the Spider-Verse really does look like it has the potential to be something special and it could launch a whole new franchise for Sony Pictures.

There are, of course, many fans who would love to see Miles Morales in a live-action setting and while that's definitely possible, it appears as if he's staying in the animated realm for the time being. Do Schreiber's comments get you more excited for the movie? Let us know your thoughts down below.

In 10/15 years, when Tom Holland would have done his run as Peter Parker in his 20's to early 30's and Donald Glover has become old enough to be the Prowler of the comics, it would be interesting to introduce Miles Morales in the MCU.

Though we could have a young Miles appearing as a young fan of Spider-man, pretty much like they did with the young Peter back in Iron-Man 2 before getting acquainted with his idol.

@Amuro - see, if that's the case I'd rather Peter stick around as an adult and mentor Miles as the new Spidey. I don't think Peter needs to die or be written out for Miles to get a shot.

I believe this film is going to be a bit more connected than we think. With access to every Spider Universe, I have a hard time believing the MCU wont be in there somewhere.

I think Thanos is genuinely going to kill the MCU Spider-Man, leading to a Tony sacrifice. I also think that the MCU aspider-man appearances are limited, but Marvel grabbed the rights to Miles. So ultimately (no pun intended) Infinity War will introduce the multi-verse, and this film with bridge Sony’s and Marvel’s film universes. This way, Sony keeps building their own franchise, and Marvel does the same, both with autonomy.

Or maybe it’s just a fun cartoon.

Honestly it just sounds like he's talking about stuff he doesn't understand.

Won't see this in the theaters, because the animation makes me cringe. It may be a great movie and I probably will see it eventually, just not in the theater.

I'd like to think Liev Schreiber is going to be voicing that middle aged Peter Parker that's apparently going to be in this film... Maybe.

@UltimateHero59 - Nah, it's John Krasinski as older Peter Parker.
