Editorial: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Green Goblin Theory!!

My own thoughts on why the Green Goblin may not be who we think he is.

Ok so we know Chris Cooper is playing Norman Osborn in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 but it's still unclear if he will be playing the Green Goblin. Here's what I think will happened and why!

1. MTV’s Josh Horowitz caught up with Chris Cooper recently and asked about his role of Norman Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. When asked if we’ll see Norman transform into the villain Green Goblin, Cooper replied:

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was an introduction to Norman, and — you’ll see — an extremely odd introduction, which apparently will lead to something more."

Chris said his introduction will be "Extremely odd", I think Norman will figure out a way to transfer his mind in to his sons body (extremely odd. Yes?). Why because we know he is dying and for some reason his son Harry comes back to New York presumably to take over his fathers company or say good bye. Also this has been done in the spider man comics already by Doc Ock(Using a brain-swapping Octobot, Otto Octavius transplanted his mind into the body of his nemesis Spider-Man.)

2. In a video interview Chris Cooper said this:

"Well, this is an introduction to Norman Osborn and apparently this leads to better things in Spider-Man 3. I think it's fair to say he's on his last legs...I don't know if I can say anything more!"

Chris says Norman is on "his last legs"!!! I don't know about you but when I read that I think about a desperate man, man who would do anything to live even take over his sons body? Maybe, maybe not but it's something to think about.

3. So far the villains in TASM 2 are not really sticking to there comic book counter parts a side from names and powers. So this so could mean the green goblin character is also going to have some major changes/twists to his back story and evolution into the green goblin.

4. Why introduce Harry first as the Green Goblin? Could Sony be trying to pull off a Marvel move like they did with the Mandarin? Spider-man is after all still a marvel character and even if many fans were upset about the whole Mandarin bait and switch, some found to be genus! Sony could be trying to ride marvels coats tails on that part.

Ok so I could be grasping a straws here but I think I am on to something! What do you guys think? I am bat shit crazy or could this be a great theory?

The whole brain swapping thing is so stupid. You can't move a mind to another body. You can copy it into someone else (theoretically) but you can't transfer it unless you actually move the brain.

Miley starts twerking, Gwen jumps off the bridge, sets up The Amazing Spider-Man 3: The Hunt For Miley Cyrus, and TASM 4 where she joins Rhino, Electro, the two Goblins and The Lizard as the final member of the Sinister Six.
That sound good, Gusto?

I really hope Marc Webb isn't taking story ideas from Dan Slott. You're better than that Marc! So much better...

Norman putting his mind in Harry's body...that is brilliant. I think there is probably going to be some kind of twist like that. Many times when Green Goblin has been introduced in Spiderman franchises, the makers have first tried to create the image that Goblin is actually Harry, before reaveling it to be Norman; Spiderman TAS and Spectacular Spiderman did it.
It also would be pretty good twist since most people seem to believe that Harry becomes the Goblin in TASM2.

@Alphadog Dr Doom has been doing that in comics since the 60's. The idea of mindswap is good if it is used right; Dan Slott DID NOT.

Way I see it.

Harry becomes Goblin, gets banged up in Ravencroft along with Rhino, Lizard and Electro.

Norman uses Oscorp tech to get Adrian Toomes a set of wings (Colm Feore is supposedly playing Toomes and works at Ravencroft). Then hires Otto Octavius to work on the sciency stuff. Toomes and Octavius break Harry, Rhino Lizard and Electro out of prison.

Harry can't cope with being the goblin, so Norman takes his place. Ock straps on the arms and the gang set out to kill Spidey.

Yippee for everyone.

No
I'd like to see The formula kinda like a low level super soldier serum. It heels Norman slowly. Harry could be injured in a battle between Spidey and Rhino/Electro or Harry wants to become more powerful physically and over doses on the formula. He ends up going crazy and going on a rampage (or if he gets injured he tries to get back at Spidey). Then in the next movie Norman slowly starts to show signs of changing. He eventually goes all Ultimate GG at the end and kills Gwen.

I feel like this is actually something that could translate really well to the big screen. Good idea, Ruben. Good idea.

What if Norman is inside Harry's mind?

Interesting theory i like it.

I would love it if Harry's or Norman's predicament leads to Sinister Six in a TASM film in the future.

I'm telling you this is giving me that funny feeling just like it first happened in the superior spiderman. It would be weird for Harry to do the body switch. Then again it might get better though cause I did hate the superior spiderman at first but now enjoys it. But hey this is just a theory. I'll just have to watch the movie to see something true

I really like the idea of Norman taking over Harry ' s body. It shows how ruthless he is. I just think this would be an interesting direction for the Osbornes.
