Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse received the spotlight at the Annecy Festival today, and we have some new casting announcements to share.

Shea Whigham (Agent Carter) will lend his voice to Captain George Stacy, Spider-Gwen's father. Jorma Taccone, who voiced the Green Goblin in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, will return to this world as The Vulture, while Rachel Dratch (Harley Quinn) will play Miles Morales' high school counsellor.

With this news comes a new still showcasing Miles and Gwen battling out with the movie's big bad, The Spot. Jason Schwartzman (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) will be bringing him to life here, and the villain - usually a joke in the comic books - looks like a serious threat in this blockbuster.

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.

Holy shit, they're actually doing The Spot?! The rumors were true.

Morlun and the Inheritors seems like they would have been a better fit, but maybe they're saving them for the 3rd film.

@soberchimera - tbh I hate Morlun. I also really don't care for the "spiderverse" so y'know, the two kinda go hand in hand.
But you're right, Morlun and the Inheritors are the best fit. I wonder if Spot is a red herring for their inclusion.

I like that they aren't going the traditional route for the big bads. Give us these obscure villains. Hopefully this means TAS Spider-Man will show up somewhere. He practically kicked off the Spider-Verse

YEEES!!! Spot on! Loved this silly character as a child. He was introduced just a couple of months after I first started reading Spider-man.

Damn, I was hoping he to show up in live-action!

The Spot is such a cool villain that seems silly on the surface, but has terrifying potential. Love his inclusion here.

Now I just realized how annoyingly awesome a boss fight would be with him in a video game.

@Kumkani - in theory until it’s just reduced to stun him to stop him moving through spots and mash the punch button

This is gonna look great! What a fun villain. I wonder who else will be introduced?

Makes sense to use The Spot as a main villain given the theme of this animated franchise is interdimentional travel. They can go all out with him here. They nailed well his look as well.
