MORBIUS Earns Lowest CinemaScore From Moviegoers Since FANTASTIC FOUR Was Released In 2015

Morbius' CinemaScore has been revealed, & as you might expect after those reviews, it's not very good! In fact, it's the worst rating for a comic book movie since Fantastic Four was released back in 2015.

Morbius is now playing in theaters, and, as per usual, a CinemaScore for the movie has been revealed. As we write this, the Marvel Comics adaptation has a 17% score on Rotten Tomatoes courtesy of critics, but fans appear to have enjoyed it quite a bit more if that 69% Audience Score is any indication!

Regardless, Sony's latest Marvel movie has debuted with a dire C+ score from moviegoers.

This was generated from audiences polled as they were leaving the theater, so while it isn't something that really has any sort of immediate impact on box office takings, it is a good indication of what non-fans think. A CinemaScore can also often give us an idea of how much word of mouth will impact box office takings (which is more important than ever in this "pandemic era").

With a C+, Morbius now sits alongside Batman and Robin, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and Spawn. It's beaten the likes of Hellboy (C) and Fantastic Four (C-), but is actually the worst-received comic book movie in terms of CinemaScore's rankings since the latter was released back in 2015.

"Jared Leto’s transformation makes for compelling viewing," we said in our review"but the Living Vampire can’t elevate a disappointing story that serves as a powerful, dare we say terrifying, reminder that Spider-Man is better off (and safer) in the MCU with Marvel Studios."

If you've seen Morbius, what grade would you give it?

Anybody else notice that every film Matt Smith is in flops or turns out bad? The guy has a worse track record than Michael fassbender 💁

How?

They get scores from people right out of the theater. It's accurate and not BS fanbase online voting.

well, my opinion tends to fall within their critism
im not saying they cant be wrong and the audience right, but its more often that critics have the correct rating and the audience doesnt

@WakandanQueen - I said these exact same words to my wife yesterday. Jared Leto is a bad actor, and how he keeps getting roles is beyond me.

Then again, I've always disliked 30 Seconds to Mars as well, even as an angsty teen.

@TheHumanSpider2 - Far From Home was produced by Sony. Marvel Studios were the ones who hired the writer, director, cast, and approved the script and not Sony.
DarkeyeZ

@TheHumanSpider2 - Far From Home is a Marvel Studios movie, partially funded by Sony, not made by Sony.
TheMandalorian
TheMandalorian - 4/3/2022, 9:55 AM
Good! Jared Leto needs to stop screwed up comic book characters for the rest of us! And Sony needs to stop [frick]ing up the Spiderman franchise!
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 4/3/2022, 10:04 AM
Sony made a shitload of money with Homecoming and Far From Home, then they said "ok, let calm the [frick] down, maybe is the MCU boost, lets see what happens with movies not connected to the MCU", the Venom movies came out, and made more money than 90% of MCU movies, then they say "ok, maybe we are on a roll here, but lets see if we can come close to Avengers numbers with No Way Home"...it made $2B.

While mistakes were made here (like reshooting the whole movie when Kevin Feige told them "keep my shared universe out of your [frick]ing mouth"), its understable they though anything they would release related to Spiderman was going to be a hit.

Spidey91
Spidey91 - 4/3/2022, 10:09 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - yeah but Venom at least is up there in terms of popularity and already had an adaptation in SM3. also, Tom Hardy. they still don't get that brand alone can't carry a universe, you still need character attachment. it's how the MCU made it this far, they started small but thay made us care, they didn't assume we were just gonna buy it because of the logo, which is what Sony is doing.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 4/3/2022, 10:26 AM
@Spidey91 - Basically.

Spiderman had the MCU boost, and...well, its freaking Spiderman, and Venom is a lot more popular than some people give him credit, and Tom Hardy is carrying those movies.
I think they believed the brand and Jared Leto were enough to make a disaster work...they were wrong.
I dont know how far into production Kraven is, but that IP and Aaron Taylor-Johnson CANT CARRY A MOVIE, so Sony should start analyzing what to do with the movie, a budget cut is probably in the cards as we speak.
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 4/3/2022, 10:35 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - if they're smart, which they aren't but lets play pretend for a second, they would just cut their loses and start introducing or teasing other Spider-Man characters/villains in other proper MCU projects so they can go on to properly fight Spider-Man later down the road.
in the meantime, INVEST IN MOVIES THAT AREN'T SPIDER-MAN RELATED FOR F*CK'S SAKE.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 4/3/2022, 10:46 AM
@Spidey91 - They tried, Afterlife and Uncharted were that...they failed.

The problem with introducing Spiderman characters in the MCU is that aparently in the deal they made with Disney, they cant make solo movies about characters introduced in the MCU, that is why they had to come up with Vulture being trasported to the SMU, which makes absolutely no sense, same with Eddie also getting sent back 5 minutes after getting there (although in the case of Eddie, him being transported to the MCU didnt make sense to begin with).

They have to decide what they want to do, if they want Spiderman to remain in the MCU, they have to scrap the SMU idea, and if they want to build the SMU, they have to take Spiderman out of the MCU, and start involving him in these spin-offs.
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 4/3/2022, 10:49 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - well, then they shouldn't make movies based on those characters and just let them be in the MCU and focus on Peter's story. it's THAT easy.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 4/3/2022, 10:56 AM
@Spidey91 - There is a third option...make Spiderman solo movies out of the MCU.
Like they used to do, when Spiderman ruled the world in the '00s.

But Sony is OBSSESED with making a shared universe, at the same time they dont trust Spiderman to stand on his own without the MCU boost.

I understand Amazing 2 made them lose a lot of money, but that was 8 years ago, Spiderman is the most popular super heroe in the world, he will sell tickets without Iron Man or Dr Strange in his movies.
Spidey91

@TheHumanSpider2 -
"But Sony is OBSSESED with making a shared universe, at the same time they dont trust Spiderman to stand on his own without the MCU boost."

I still don't get where this obsession comes from, it's obviously starting to not play out for them like they wanted. they're gonna end up like the Transformers movies, where every movie got worse and worse until people decided to just not go see them. if they wanna have a Spider-Man just for them, then just continue the Amazing saga and let MCU Spidey be MCU Spidey. and they also have the Spider-Verse side of things, they should focus on that too. if the point is to just make money, then they should focus on things that make money, not on f*cking Morbius or Kraven, stop with the shared universe BS because it's not a fool proof moneymaking plan.
f*cking hell, Sony is being outsmarted by WB, they actually made things that stand on their own like The Batman and Joker, and look how much money those made without those ties.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 4/3/2022, 4:47 PM
@Spidey91 - They wont have two Spidermen.
Is either a Spiderman in the MCU, or a solo Spiderman, like we got with Tobey and Andrew.
What I dont understand is why they have so little fayth in Spiderman when they only had ONE flop in 20 years, even Amazing 1 made money, it was Amazing 2, and the reason why it floped is because they had ridiculous expectations for that movie.
Just a couple of months after Amazing 2 made them lose money, they were already negotiating with Disney, whoever is in charge of Sony Pictures cant act with such a hot head, one mistep and they destroy the whole thing, one success and they start planning a dozen spin-offs.
It's ridiculous, and now that way of thinking is biting them in the ass again, Kraven is already filming, and Madame Web in pre-production, they cant stop Kraven, and they already spent money on Madame Web.
They need to decide what to do with the IP, either they go back to the good old days when they released a solo Spiderman movies every 2 years (also, they didnt have to pay Disney the 25% of the BO like they do with the MCU movies), and test the waters for eventual spin-off, or scrap the spin-offs idea, and keep working with Disney.
They cant have it both ways, because at this point, they are not just damaging their IPs, they are damaging the Marvel brand in general, because general audiences dont know about Sony, or Fox, or Disney, is just "Marvel", for them Morbius is the same as Shang Chi or Deadpool.
DarkeyeZ
DarkeyeZ - 4/4/2022, 7:54 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - you are way off base and don't know what you are talking about (and what is "fayth" supposed to be? faith?). Anyways, you are under the impression that Sony is behind Tom Hollands Spider-Man movies, which is incorrect. Marvel is behind this. Sony owns the rights to the character and let Marvel borrow Spider-Man, but if you think anyone but Kevin is in control of the story and narrative, you are just wrong. VENOM, VENOM 2 and MORBIUS are the movies you get without Marvel Studios input. Basically, it's like Spider-Man movies are a rental car, Sony owns the car, but Marvel is doing all the driving. Kraven and Madame Webb are also going to be Sony movies. And they will likely have the same feel as the other Sony movies.
Also, you are 100% wrong that audiences don't know about Sony or Fox or Disney and that it is just Marvel to them. They know.
