NO TIME TO DIE Star Ana De Armas Reportedly Eyed For Lead Female Role In SPIDER-MAN Spin-Off Movie EL MUERTO

While cameras still haven't begun rolling on Sony's El Muerto, a new report reveals that Ana de Armas (Knives Out) is being eyed by the studio to star in the movie alongside rapper and wrestler Bad Bunny.

During last year's CinemaCon, Sony Pictures made no mention of Spider-Man 4, but did announce Venom 3 and El Muerto. The former wasn't a shock after the success of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, though fans were hoping for something a little more exciting than plans for a movie starring an incredibly obscure Spider-Man villain.

Based on what we've heard, Sony gave popular rapper and aspiring actor Bad Bunny his pick of characters from their Spider-Man Universe and he decided to take a crack at bringing El Muerto to life. Given his love of pro wrestling, that's not overly surprising, especially as he's competed at WrestleMania for WWE.

Now, Screen Geek is reporting that No Time to Die and Ballerina star Ana de Armas is being eyed to play the movie's female lead opposite Bad Bunny's title character.

This would be her first superhero movie and proves that, even after movies like Venom and Morbius, Sony has no trouble attracting A-List talent to its expanding Marvel Universe (we're not convinced actors fully understand the difference between that and the MCU, to be honest).

Considering the fact El Muerto has made only a handful of appearances on the page, there's really no one we know of from his corner of the Marvel Universe who we can say Armas would be a good fit for.

However, it's entirely possible Sony will pluck another Spider-Man supporting character from the comics in order to give Armas someone noteworthy to play here. It's worth noting that this is likely to be an original tale about the Mexican wrestler who wears a mystical mask that gives him, and those in his family before, superpowers.

While El Muerto briefly tussled with Spider-Man in the squared circle, his main foe is El Dorado, a supernatural being who is responsible for granting his family these supernatural abilities. If Armas does board the project, here's hoping she isn't relegated to "love interest."

Jonás Cuarón is directing the movie based on a screenplay by Garreth Dunnet-Alcocer.

El Muerto is set to be released in theaters on January 12, 2024.

@WakandaTech - While it may happen, it’s too early to call a movie that hasn’t even started at the theaters a flop.

If Sony was smart, they'd lean into the joke and develop a cinematic universe built around super obscure Spidey villains who all swear that Spider-Man is their arch-nemesis. But the joke is that Spider-Man either doesn't remember them or doesn't know them at all, which is why he never shows up.

Marvel making some mid - bad movies is one thing but it’s Sony continuing to drop stupid shit like this that will tank CBMs

This is so bad, its scary. It's like not even a C-Level movie, like Iron Sky or Skarknato, where superhero movies become a joke. We all watch superhero movies because we grew up with comics and take our kids, Avengers worked cause its the characters we grew up with. The farther you move away from that, Like Love and Blunder, which wasn't a Thor Movie, but more like stooge's episode, turns people off. No one knows these characters and who cares, why would I go pay to see them, because they are in the Sony Universe where Spiderman lives, don't think so. If this actually happens, will probably be the nail in the coffin on superhero's.

@cubichy - It’s the natural stage of all genres of entertainment. We’ve entered the satire stage. There is some good satire out there - like The Boys for example - but then you get joke projects too.

The bad part for CBM fans is that the satire stage is usually followed by the genre dying.

@TheUnworthyThor - I have to believe this is rumor that won’t pan out. She was in. Bond flick, is about to be in a Wick spin-off. Sony needs her way more than she needs them.
