Kevin Feige Says Green Goblin And Doctor Octopus Were Never Considered Before SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME

The original big screen versions of Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirms there were no plans for either prior to that movie.

It was clear from the start that Marvel Studios wanted to make the Marvel Cinematic Universe's take on Spider-Man as different as possible from what had come before. Peter Parker was kitted out in Stark Industries tech, while he faced villains who had never appeared on the big screen until that point.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland's web-slinger squares off with five familiar faces from the past, including icons like the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) and Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina). However, Kevin Feige has now confirmed that there were no plans to reboot either character for the MCU prior to the decision being made to bring the original versions back for this threequel.

"It did not occur to us to do a new Goblin story, or to do an Oscorp story, or to do Doc Ock, or anyone that had been done before, which is why Vulture and Mysterio were really the key characters," the Marvel Studios President explains in the video below. "Even as we were doing that - and I had been saying for years, even before anybody asked me what I thought - that you can't get better than Alfred Molina as Doc Ock."

"[I said] stepping into those shoes would be very, very difficult. And wouldn't it be fun to find a way, if you were ever going to bring Doc Ock back, it would have to be Alfred Molina," Feige continued. "And in early development on this third Homecoming movie, we realized that thanks to the MCU, there was a way to do that."

This would explain why Peter has never heard of Otto Octavius in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and why it's confirmed that Oscorp and Norman Osborn don't exist in this world. With that in mind, we might as well forget about seeing the MCU's take on these villains in the next trilogy - though that's not necessarily the end of the world when there are still lots of other bad guys who can appear.

Forgot to mention this yesterday

Why did Flint side with the villains at the end?

He did not want his power and all he wanted was to go home

Really with the exception of Harry and Venom, that goes for all the Raimi villains

They can for sure do better for Lizard, Electro and harry 2

It would have been funny if Topher Grace was at the bar with Tom Hardy.

I don't mind seeing Green Goblin again, but I really wanna see Ock again. Could even create some interesting dynamics, given that Peter has that redeemed view of Ock

I actually believe him and share his stance on the matter.

Still...i now understand what MCU fans tend to tell me from time to time.

Green Goblin on the big screen is a vision as old as 20 years, one from Raimi and one that shaped Webb's Goblin still.

It's very hard for me not to quickly imagine an MCU overhaul that could've helped them distance themselves from Dafoe.

What is done is done i guess, wonder if the Playstation Spidey creators will use Goblin down the line...

The more opportunities for Dafoe to appear as Green Goblin the better.

It was awesome to see Goblin and Dock Ock again but.......i wanted to see some new takes on the characters in the MCU,now we never see Octopus or Green Goblin story again...
Looks like Vulture in the MCU will take the role of the main nemesis for Parker.

I'm pretty sure the film only confirms there isn't an Oscorp known in the Sacred timeline. There isn't a mention that there is no Norman Osborn.

Oscorp likely does exist in the MCU, but to tie it into Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and the Dark Avengers, it's a off-the-books government-funded corporation. The existence of Norman if he runs it, would probably equally be as redacted.
