SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Tom Holland Addresses Trilogy Reports: "It's An Incredibly Bright Future"

Yesterday, Spider-Man: No Way Home producer Amy Pascal revealed that Sony and Marvel Studios are developing a new trilogy, and Tom Holland has now weighed in with some vague, yet positive, comments.

Spider-Man: No Way Home producer Amy Pascal dropped quite a bombshell yesterday when she confirmed that a new trilogy is in the works with Tom Holland's Peter Parker. Since then, the trades have cast at least a little doubt on how far along those plans are, but it seems the actor has a few weeks of being asked about those movies ahead of him as he does the rounds to promote the threequel.

That started during an appearance on a French talk show yesterday; while Holland does appear to try and reign in fan expectations, it also feels a lot like he's aware of what comes next for the wall-crawler.

"Listen, all I'll say is we have some very, very exciting things to be talking about," the actor laughed. "I don't know what those things are or what they will transpire to mean. But it looks like it's an incredibly bright future ahead, and as I've said before, Spider-Man will forever live in me."

Pascal's timing was strange, though you have to believe a deal is done...well, unless she was attempting to counter Holland's apparent public negotiating tactics when he said he might be finished with Peter Parker. As noted, the actor is likely to get a lot of questions over the weeks to come about these trilogy plans, so we're sure he'll have more to say about his possible future as Spider-Man!

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.S. on December 17 and in the UK on December 15.

@Waddles - I'll say that isn't even how it happened in the game. He got hit and flew out the back of the plane, then grabbed the stuff immediately. Aren't movies supposed to make more sense than the games?

Man, he's going to be the face of Spider-Man for a whole generation of human-beings. Thats some legacy building shit right there. Perhaps even more than RDJ or Christopher Reeve.
Good for him.

If only he was the reason people wanted to see these films, and not the villains or other Spider-men

@SnideCut -

RDJ had more fans than Holland, kids and adults alike. I know my dad loved Tom but I don’t think he has as many fans as RDJ has after IM1.

If you think about it, Tom’s already played Spider-Man six times, seven if you include the Venom post credit scene. Another trilogy on the way and the prospect of a third trilogy too. He’ll definitely appear in more Avengers and Young Avengers films as well as any supporting roles in MCU projects. Then take into consideration that Sony are building the Sonyverse and both Pascal and Feige have confirmed he’ll crossover into the Sonyverse at some point. Venom 3, Morbius 2, Kraven, Sinister Six films. Sony will also want to capitalise on the Spider-Verse with Tobey, Andrew and Tom back together beyond No Way Home. You’re looking at Tom Holland playing Spider-Man in 20-30 different films in total. I we know Sony have signed a deal with D+ too so perhaps he’ll appear in some shows too. He’s going to absolutely obliterate records in terms of franchise actors. On top of that, Hemsworth made $75m for Endgame. Tom’s gonna be on that sort of contract for the foreseeable when it comes to massive team up films. He could very well become the highest paid actor of all time.

@SamaelSaint - That’s pretty crazy, I mean just looking at the reaction to the trailer post pandemic, The only thing that could mess it up, is greed. Greedy of him to ask for more? Greedy of them to turn it down? Either way, there’s money to spread all around. Apparently a contract ending is a huge sigh of relief
PhoenixBlade
PhoenixBlade - 11/30/2021, 11:03 AM
@TheWalkingCuban - It’s hard to know. Some actors don’t like contracts for films that don’t have scripts. Some like it when they end because they can demand more money or a bigger role, whether that’s pushed as a lead or a producer. Then you’ve got the fact the MCU is over ten years old and massively popular and that many actors are fans. I know that if I was an actor or many on this site were, we’d all happily play our favourite character for the rest of our lives. Tom, as we all know - did say Spider-Man was his dream role before he was cast. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d happily just been known for the one role.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 11/30/2021, 11:49 AM
@SamaelSaint - not for the one role, he’d be known for the one mole.

He’s a likable young dude, but in reality the days of star power Are almost behind us. The rock, Tom Cruise, there are stores they can pull them in a lot of money and yet, mummy and jungle cruise. Concept has replaced it’s a star, and star plus concept is *usually guaranteed success (*that old mummy strikes again), so tom Holland shouldn’t let this go, money wise. If he wants to go all daniel day Lewis, well, adult skewing movies tank nowadays, and maybe that’d be fine by him. Hopefully he wants that house in French Polynesia, the one with the volcanic fireplace and robot servants
PhoenixBlade
PhoenixBlade - 11/30/2021, 1:24 PM
@TheWalkingCuban - All very true. Marvel put the final nail in the coffin for the movie star. The big film stars these days are the ones on the indie circuit known by film buffs. Which makes them like that one actor that people recognise from being in loads of things, but they never know their name. Everyone’s a Margo Martindale these days unless you’re a superhero.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 11/30/2021, 1:42 PM
@SamaelSaint - she was great on Justified, and yes agreed with all of the above. That’s why it’s so ridiculously satisfying to see Paul Dano as the riddler. I think of Dastmalchian and just see how genius he has handled all this. I’m sure people STILL don’t know his name, and he’s not just in everything, he’s In everything BIG. Proves that no name plus concept is better than star power minus concept. These days where star power may actually still matter is in streaming. That super dumb movie Red Notice, lemme tell ya, my teenagers loved it. I didn’t tell em it’s stupid cuz negativity rubs off, but I digress. That movie, possibly Netflix’s worst original yet, broke viewing records. Cuz of star power. May kids love that Deadpool guy. Couple of em even know his name lol

@TheWalkingCuban - The only thing that could mess it up is Amy Pascal bragging about stuff that may or may not be true but still ruining the movie and future of the movies for many.

Hulk was humiliated and dead... even if he comes back they'll find a way to pass on his title to She-Hulk or humiliate him further, potentially make him a villain.

Exactly. Hulk has no cap to his strength if he isn’t knocked out. That’s really the only way to defeat him...you have to make him unconscious.

I've heard it said in the past they are trying to set Peter Parker up as the next Tony Stark. Which that makes sense. Especially with this news. RDJ didn't just do three Iron Man movies. He was there from the start and finished out his arc 10 years later. I wouldn't be surprised if Tom Holland's Peter Parker takes on that same trajectory. While an argument can be made that Steve Rogers was the leader of the group (not gonna argue with you there), Stark was the through line for the whole story. And that particular "book" ended with his sacrifice. I really do feel like they're setting Peter Parker up for maybe not that same trajectory, but certainly as the "through line" of the MCU for the next several years to come.

He definitely got a pay raise. He seems to love playing the character. But I wouldn't mind a more mature, independent Spider-Man going forward.

Hopefully Sony get the full rights back, as the only reason I and people I know are interested in NWH is due to the Sony characters and the only discussion I see about it is about the Raimi and Webb Spider-man. I don't know anyone who wants to see more of this Peter and this supporting cast.

May as well keep him as Spidey as long as they can. He does well in the role (the most accurate portrayal of parker and spidey thus far). And he looks the part. As long as they continue to develop the character. *ahem* *ahem* marvel we're looking at you.
