Tobey Maguire Reflects On SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Return; Says It "Reinvigorated My Interest In Performing"

Tobey Maguire has reflected on being asked to return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, suggesting his MCU debut has "reinvigorated" his interest in acting. Did Spider-Man 4 just get more likely?

Spider-Man: No Way Home - The Art of the Movie has finally found its way into stores, and some new comments from Tobey Maguire are likely to further increase excitement about the possibility of Spider-Man 4 becoming a reality.

The actor is mostly a producer these days and rarely appears on screen, with the latest Spider-Man movie his most noteworthy role in quite some time.

Suiting up again, however, has clearly had an impact on Maguire. "Working with Andrew [Garfield] and Tom [Holland] was so dear to me, it really was special - a very rich experience for me, all around," he reveals (via The Direct). "It kind of reinvigorated my interest in performing. It felt like a real brotherhood, which was what we were aiming for, too, for us and for the characters."

"But then to have those dynamics play out - feeling a real connection and love for these guys, and having fun and having a laugh - all of that was energizing and reinvigorating for me."

Reuniting with Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin) and Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus) was also an "amazing" experience according to Maguire, though being asked back to play Spider-Man again...well, it sounds like he's been waiting for that call for a while.

"When they called initially...I was like, 'Finally!'" he admits. "I just feel grateful - I was really open, immediately, about coming to do this. Not without nerves! But to get to show up with talented, creative people and play together...it's just a yes."

"There was such an open-heartedness to coming together and embracing each other and supporting each other that was really beautiful."

Rumours about Spider-Man 4 happening continue to persist, as do those claiming The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will eventually take shape. Neither project seems overly likely and we'd be concerned about Sony Pictures folding either of those movies into the current reality inhabited by characters like Venom and Morbius.

We'd guess Maguire and Garfield will reprise their respective roles as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Avengers: Secret Wars, but only time will tell on that front.

I always thought he was a good Peter Parker, but not really a good Spider-Man, but seeing him come back in No Way Home was like a real awwww moment for me. Garfield was my favorite of the bunch.

@HammerLegFoot - I agree. Maguire is my favourite Parker as well, but Garfield is my favourite Spider-Man. Holland has a bit of both

@bkmeijer1 - This is a good take. Holland does the best overall in my opinion, but I just don't like the fact that he comes across as quite dumb instead of someone smart enough to actually build his own webshooters, etc. Im sure that is more the writing than Holland's fault though. To his defense, his quips while fighting are pretty spot on.

@Shivermetimbers - he did make the webshooters (and the moving eye lenses) himself right? Stark just improved on them.

But yeah he get's the mannerisms right in both, he just doesn't excel at them like Maguire or Garfield imo

@bkmeijer1 - Its more the dumb things he does and says. He is shown to be on that special smart kid team, so you are supposed to assume he is smart, but he doesnt act smart, if that makes sense. Its a minor thing for me, one of the few things that I dont like about the Holland Spiderman.

@Shivermetimbers - I get what you're saying. He has some smart moments for sure, but not that outstandingly many I suppose

I would support a Spider Man 4 movie. Rather than these villain movies Sony has been making.

I'll take a Spider-Woman movie with Mayday as the lead and Maguire's Parker as a supporting character. Great as he is, I think the capacity he was in NWH was just perfect.

Good for him. He has been doing less acting in recent years, so it probably was nice for him to see adoring fans again. Since Sony has established the Spiderverse, I’d be open to seeing Toby and/or Andrew again either in their own solos or in these villain movies. Kraven is likely to perform poorly. It’s so odd that Sony thinks these villain movies are going to be a hit. There are only a handful of big comic villains that can carry their own movie. Not every villain is Joker or Venom.

Seeing Andrew Garfield made me smile ear-to-ear, but when Tobey Maguire shows up through the portal I still get legitimately teary-eyed.

Must’ve been nice to work with people who you can relate to. It definitely came across like they’ve all been through different but the same stress playing the same but different characters. I’m sure they all had a little pow wow talking about their experiences as Spider-Man, similar to how they did in the movie.

Bring him back for Spiderman 4 while we still have Rosemary Harris then back for Secret Wars. It’d make up for the dumpster fire the MCU has become
