Why Sinister Six is one of my most anticipated movies of 2016

First off, I would just like to say this is my first article I've ever written, so as you can imagine there may be some errors from time to time, I'm also not the best writer(hoping to improve that).

To start off I should probably say that I enjoyed the Amazing Spiderman 2, yes it had some glaring problems but it had some fantastic scenes in it as well, and with that cliffhanger at the end, OMG! needles to say I'm absolutely pumped for the sinister six movie. Some may be puzzled at this statment, thinking I'm an idiot, how could I possibly be excited for this cashgrab, especially since there is a star wars spinoff, x men: Apocalypse, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad all in the same year. The answer to that question my friends is pure nostalgia for Spiderman lore. I love spiderman to death, and I want to see every inch of his lore expanded and explored. Also, I don't believe this is entirely a Sinister Six film, I believe that it was intended to be Amazing Spiderman 3 but pulled too much focus on the sinister six, so they were scared of the audience being pissed off for paying to see a spiderman movie and instead get a drama between Dock ock and Green goblin. As far as sonys crappy marketing goes, this seems to be a smart move, and with the addition of Drew Goddard both writing and Directing this might be the best spiderman movie ever! regardless of what you think of Amazing spiderman 2. Now, yet again another bold statement, but hear me out. Drew Goddard is an amazing writer, his likeness of Joss Whedon is something that this movie needs desperately, especially if Spiderman is going to be featured heavily.

One of the problems I have with the spiderman movies is not enough quick witted, loud mouth spiderman. The closest we have ever gotten to this spiderman was in Amazing Spiderman 2, and at this pace we will never get a full on 24/7 talking spiderman, but with Drew Goddard, who is seemingly a very big fan of marvel comics,  he can really bring Spidey to life with his writing skills. This is especially true considering he will have six villains to have banter with, which is just entertaining on its own without good dialogue. Also, did you guys see Cabin in the woods? Pretty awesome flick in my opinion. Another thing to add is that you guys should be excited for this movie and hope for success, because unless marvel can work out a deal with Sony, we won't be seeing Spiderman join the MCU, meaning we never get a good spiderman movie for the rest of our lives(assuming all the sony ones are shit). Its a depressing notion, so why wouldn't we all just be cautiously optomistic? I know theres many answers to that, but this movie has potential to blow minds, and dare I say it, could possibly be the best superhero movie of 2016. Now obviously the likelihood of that being the case is not that big, even with spiderman fanatics what with big guns such as Batman V Superman popping up.

Drew Goddard can rectify the "mistakes" that sony has committed and really bring forth an epic spiderman experience. I hear people say they are done with spiderman now- over two movies?! X men has repeatedly bastardized the source material and at one point gave us disappointment after disappointment: X men 3: The last stand, X men Origins: Wolverine, X men: first class( was okay, matthew vaughn's directing made it better), and The Wolverine. But, it was all saved from X men: Days of future Past(which I personally didn't like), so I mean, where is the hesitation for the Amazing series? Amazing Spiderman 2 did not do anything as bad as X men origins, yet this movie is already seemingly doomed from fan approval. Give it a chance, just imagine Spiderman fighting the sinister six while making quips and witty retorks as the six gets frustrated. This franchise just barely started, and for the people complaining that Amazing spiderman 2 sets up sinister six too much, well, don't let Amazing Spiderman 2 "die in vein", give the Sinister six a chance, theres not harm in doing so.

As a sort of passing note, I apologize if my writing was horrid at times and if I didn't get my point across well, I'm just here to discuss and get feedback like a good little fanboy. Once again, I want to hear your feedback guys, and give your opinion on the sinister six and the whole series in general. Also, I would proof read my article, but I'm super tired and I'm giddy like a school girl to get my first article out.

ONE of the most anticipated. Did you even read the article, dude? I'd say its pretty obvious that Batman V Superman is huge, and will most likely rip it a new anus, I'm just defending the underdog here. I'm just saying we are in the thick of the comic book fad and we should take advantage of it. And I do address that it could be a hit( a surprise hit at that), I don't know, maybe I'm being too optimistic.

First of all, I would like to applaud you for writing your first article on this site. It takes courage to write an article on comicbook movie. I say that because we the the fans can be hyper critical on this site from time time and your writing was more than sufficient. Personally I would really love to see Spiderman shine whether he's with Sony or Marvel. The addition of Drew Goddard is very exciting because I think he is a terrific writer, producer and all around fan of the comic genre. He has the ability to breath new life and fresh air into the Spiderman franchise. What ever Sony decides to do to move forward with Spiderman, hopefully they learn from their past mistakes and give the fans a quality Spiderman film.

By the looks of this comment section, articles like this will only draw in the magpies whose unfiltered opinions are as worthless as their inability to read news stories without the negative color commentary. You guys do realize that Sony issued a press release that announced three upcoming projects, Sin6 TASM3 and Vnm/Crng, and expressed confidence in Goddard's vision. Those are the facts, while sources that aren't directly linked to the studio, BadassDigest and LatinoReview, have spun the narrative that "Sony doesn't know what the [frick] they're doing" which is by no shear coincidence the SAME narrative spun by an internet comments section, and anyone who buys into a 2nd-hand narrative so easily is someone whose opinion is as spurred and beaten as the lazy horse they rode in on.

Here is Sony's official release:

In a move to forge a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen, Sony Pictures Entertainment, in association with Marvel Entertainment, is developing several new projects in the Spider-Man franchise, and looking to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films.

The five writers, [Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard] along with the two producers and Marc Webb, have formed a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films. Under the deals, the studio announced that Kurtzman & Orci & Pinkner are writing the screenplay for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3, which the studio hopes Webb will return to direct.

In addition, the team will build on the cinematic foundation laid by Webb, Arad, and Tolmach in the first two movies. They will expand the franchise as Kurtzman & Orci & Solomon will write the screenplay for VENOM, which Kurtzman will direct; also, Goddard will write, with an eye to direct, THE SINISTER SIX, focusing on the villains in the franchise.

In tapping these five writers, the studio and the producers are guiding the future of the franchise with the writer/producers who have each played significant and key roles in developing such highly successful franchises, films, and series as Star Trek, Transformers, Alias, Fringe, Men in Black, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, World War Z, Lost, Cloverfield, The Cabin in the Woods, and Marvel's upcoming "Daredevil" series.

With more than fifty years' wealth of stories in the comic books to draw upon for inspiration, the Spider-Man universe is truly boundless; in addition, the Spider-Man comics have the greatest rogues gallery of any series, and to have the chance to explore that on film is truly thrilling. Until now, we have approached each film as a separate, self-contained entity, but with this move, we have the opportunity to grow the franchise by looking to the future as we develop a continuous arc for the story
."

See? Nothing outlandish, no Aunt May spin-off. Try reading more often.

@Scorpion1825
Thanks for defending me even though you may disagree with me. This should be the sort of hospitality that we should show one another on this site, and thanks to @dethpillow, @MrSotoMan and @Archangel82 for being thoughtful and respectful and anybody on this thread who decided to actually be civil rather than shit down my throat for having an opinion. I am aware that people didn't like Amazing Spiderman 2, but thats aside from the point of this article and shouldn't really reflect the future quality of sinister six. But once again, I appreciate the feedback regardless if its negative, its still feedback. Although, its not so much negative feedback as it is badgering me and insulting me, but whatever,I still deem this as a successful article(in terms of feedback).

@HypeMusheen - Haven't we heard since then that the Venom film has been canned and TASM3 pushed back, with uncertainty over whether the lead role will be recast?
TucksFrom2015
TucksFrom2015 - 12/1/2014, 5:46 PM
@ADv3point0 @Pending @Wolf38 Venom is like their last priority, Kurtzman handed it over to Ed Solomon so he can work on the UNIVERSAL Monster-verse, but that means Ed Solomon is still developing it. The thing is, they wanna get Sinister Six out first and let audiences react to that, before Kurtzman/Orci gets back to work on the Venom script - which is said to have strong narrative ties to the S6. The soonest release date for Venom would be in 2019, with ASM3 coming out the year before. I mean honestly, ask WB about the 2019 release of Cyborg and they'll say the exact same thing "We're just trying to figure it out, its all up in the air." That just means the writers don't have enough table scraps to feed the public with.

It seems like everything written about imitators of the new 'shared universe' model is misconstrued to mean something else, like when BadassDigest said "Sony is going to soft reboot Spider-Man with The Sinister Six, having a new actor playing a Spidey who works with the villains The Dirty Dozen style to take down a larger threat." This was only described as an idea being passed around, and its "a soft reboot" as far as showing the antagonists' point of view is a first for the franchise. "Having a new actor playing Spidey" refers to the fact that Garfield's involvement is, as he put it, "immaterial" to a movie without Peter Parker. His in-costume double plays him in the film, while Andrew does voice-overs in post and doesn't reprise his Peter Parker role until 2018.

I mean it doesn't take a genius to figure out what's happening over there, and constantly saying "Sinister Six won't happen" only reflects on the absence of imagination in the individual.

@MrSotoMan - Smart rebuttals all around, but don't deny there is a direct correlation between people not liking these movies, and people throwing Sony's future plans into disarray - I haven't even seen Amazing Spider-Man 2 to see how bad it is, thats how detached my opinions are from reporting the facts about this production.

@ADv3point0 - Roberto Orci (may have) departed from Venom, one person, singular. Somehow that means the press release is wholly outdated, and that an announced slate of projects with directors already attached to them is nothing but total uncertainty. Because people who don't like these movies are more likely to spin the narrative of failure around them, including the Badass Digest source, Devin Faraci whose distaste for the films was made public on his twitter acount. You went on to claim the production hasn't said anything about their next movie, also not true. "They all emerge from Oscorp and they are corralled by The Gentleman… they are sort of the mercenaries of Oscorp and the most unruly, beastly set of characters.” I feel bad for a guy with such contempt for this franchise, that he's beckoned to every Sony-related article (including some of mine) just to smear his filth across another forum. You go on and you have a good day, sir.

The contents seen in the 'Special Projects' chamber are pieces of equipment confiscated from their rightful inventors, that means Otto Octavius and Adrian Toomes are preexisting facets of this new universe, considering how audiences already know what happened to Otto, certain origins won't be re-told. And maybe I was a bit harsh at the end there... but I can't tolerate someone who faults you for seeing potential where he sees absolutely nothing. Bro, you don't even write articles!

But you were right about one thing, I've been paying way too much attention to your comments! That was well said @dethpillow, Mystery Men is a great comparison, and the idea that each director gets their own movie pitch is also great. But I'm pretty sure thats already the case with Goddard, Webb, and Kurtzman directing three very different Spider-Man films, Sony did say this: "We believe that [directors] Marc, Alex, and Drew have uniquely exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of these upcoming films." and what I think that means will be expanded upon in my next article - here are all the images

I'm actually really looking forward to Batman v Superman, especially after Man of Steel even though the movie received mixed reviews the film for me was an enjoyable experience. As for Suicide Squad i really don't know what to expet from it, i don't know how i feel about it i mean obviously i'll see it and i want the movie to be a success and not fail because i honestly want a huge DC cinematic universe.

TASM franchise so far has been a let down and honestly i don't want to see more of that universe or The Sinister Six.

I think TASM 2 will suffer the same fate as Man of Steel , meaning the year it comes out, you have fanboys raging and whining about every detail, and a year later, you're pumped for the sequel. I know this from personal experience, and the fact that history often repeats itself. I loved it, found it incredibly enjoyable, then I hated it, and now, after another viewing, I have condemned it's place in my "Top 10 Films Of The Year."

By the way, @ScarletWarlock, good on you. I feel as if people have forced others to hate TASM 2 and I'm proud to see people still invested in the franchise, actually showing it. You'd be amazed, no pun intended, at how many of the "haters" are actually fans.

I'm very excited for Sinister Six, with Goddard at the helm as well as Dane DeHaan returning as The Goblin, it's going to be super-interesting to see where the franchise goes. I do, however, think TASM 3 , will see a release date in 2017, as oppose to 2018, as the DVD/Blu-Ray sales have been pretty good.
