SINISTER SIX Movie Rumored To Be Back On At Sony Pictures With Its Live-Action Spin-Off Characters

Sony Pictures is said to be once again back at work developing a Sinister Six movie which will be comprised of the villains and characters we've met in movies like Venom and Morbius. Read on for details...

Sony Pictures has been attempting to get a Sinister Six movie off the ground since the mid-2000s. The idea first came up before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released, with the 2014 sequel meant to set the stage for that team of villains to assemble in a spin-off project.

Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker was set to be the sixth member of the team after being fooled into joining their ranks by a resurrected Norman Osborn.

Based on what little we know, the whole thing would have been a disaster; Sony executives agreed, hence why a deal was struck with Marvel Studios to bring Spider-Man into the MCU in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, the same year Sinister Six was supposed to be released in theaters!

With a slate of live-action spin-off movies comprised of Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Morbius, and upcoming titles like Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter, and Venom 3 (none of which include Spider-Man), we're sure you won't be surprised to learn that Sinister Six is back on the table.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Sony is currently developing the project which will feature its spin-off characters.

So, who will be on the team?

That hasn't been revealed, but Venom, Morbius, The Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Rhino, and Ezekiel are among the possibilities based on the characters we know currently - or soon will - call this world home.

It's unclear what the Sinister Six would assemble to actually do, though Morbius' post-credits scene suggested Adrian Toomes was looking to create a team of bad guys to do some good (it made zero sense, but that's what happens when you have Spidey's greatest foes and no Spidey to fight them).

We can't discount the possibility that Sinister Six will feature a wall-crawler, though which one is up for debate. Sony may well talk Tom Holland into playing Peter Parker for the project - perhaps the Multiverse/Spider-Verse is going to be a factor - but Garfield's Variant seems like a better fit for the project.

In the comics, the original Sinister Six came together in 1964's The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1. Led by Doctor Octopus, the team included The Vulture, Sandman, Electro, Mysterio, and Kraven the Hunter. While Doctor Octopus has generally remained its leader, the Sinister Six has been portrayed in multiple iterations with different rosters and figureheads.
