Sony Confirm That THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Is The First Of A Trilogy

We already knew a sequel has been greenlit, but now after a very impressive opening Sony have revealed that there will be a third installment at some point too. The announcement was made via the movie's official Facebook page..

The Amazing Spider-Man is off to a very good start, netting $35m on its opening day in the States, giving it the biggest Tuesday opening of all time. Many experts also believe the movie could reach the $150m mark by the end of the weekend. Sony had already given a sequel the green light before this movie was even close to being released, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that they've given a third installment the go ahead now that big bucks are being made. The following was announced on the official TASM Facebook page..



It's finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.


Director Mark Webb has not signed on to helm the sequel yet, but has revealed that he has some ideas on the direction the story should go, so hopefully we will get official word that he is returning soon. The Amazing Spider-Man is in theaters now, and you can check out my take on the movie here

With th film currently sitting at 70%, when I last checked Rotten Tomatoes, not the best critical start, of course money earned is a different matter. I'm sure if GL had smashed box office records a sequel would have been made despite the film being poorly receieved.

But are the bad ratings coming from die-hard Raimi fans/people who are still unhappy that they rebooted, in other words biased people. I personally thought the first one was brilliant and I can't wait for the sequel.

Man, I really wanted to love The Amazing Spider-man. The trailers looked great, I loved the costumes and aesthetic of the movie, but the movie was just completely meh. There were some great action sequences (like the fight at the school), but overall the movie didn't justify the reboot. Yes I know Sony made the movie to retain the rights, but I wish they would have just started the movie with him already having his powers. So much of it was rehashed, and as for it being the "untold story." Much of it was recycled from Raimi's film. We never truly find out what happens to his parents, Peter never finds uncle Ben's killer, and towards the end the schitzo lizard was almost identical to the Green Goblin in terms of mannerisms. I'm too lazy to write a review of it but i would have to give it a 7/10. It had some charm to it, and it was beautifully acted, but the script was dull and the actors deserved better.

LOVED THE MOVIE, WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS A PROGRESSION OF THE SUIT, MAKE IT LOOK MORE TOWARDS THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. MARC WEBB AREN'T YOU TIRED OF THE BASKETBALL COMPARISONS??

Hey they still might, but trying to plan that far ahead is simply asking for bad luck.

Each film should be able to stand on it's own, I don't want them holding back on any cool action scenes for future sequels. Some overarching plot points are fine, but other than that each film should be the best it can possible be.

This isn't 'Nolan's way' of making movies, he never planned to make any future sequels.

If anything this series is going to be episodic; we still don't know the full mystery behind peter's parents, particularly his father, and that will probably play out across the trilogy.

Then of course there's the Gwen Stacy saga to consider, and we all know how that turns out.

So the trilogy will be built upon the disappearance of the Parkers? Good, good.

At least that means we'll see the biggest plot hole in the movie resolved in the future films.

Yes. This is indeed good news. Fingers crossed for a possible Venom storyline, based on the Ultimate comics. Some flashbacks of Richard Parker and Eddie Brock Sr. working on the Venom Suit could feature, as well as set up for Eddie Brock Jr./Venom. As for the main villain, I'm putting my money on Mysterio. No one else could've possibly popped in an out of Connors' cell like Quentin Beck.

Three movies is plenty. Sometimes more isn't better. Ex. Ice Age. After the first movie the others sucked. Case closed

I didn't like it. They messed up Uncle Ben's death. He becomes Spiderman out of revenge and not guilt. Then he ONLY chases guys who match the killers description. Then he totally gives up on catching the killer!! WTF?

Garfield and Stone were fine but the plot was terrible.

I hope that I get to see a Marvel Spidey movie before I die. Just not another origin movie!

@consultant I just rewatched Spiderman 1 and they totally addressed Peters parents. It went like this:

Norman Osborn: Your parents must be very proud.
Peter Parker: I live with my Aunt and Uncle

Done!! Okay, let's get on with the movie!

@deadpool I think that the guilt over Uncle Bens death is a HUGE part of what makes him Spiderman. So he caught like six guys then suddenly remembered what Uncle Ben said?

I have no problem with anyone who liked this movie. Each to his own I guess.

Thank you. I saw it at midnight and while the tone was far less tounge in cheek than the Raimi series, the plot and the overall film just was eh, it kinda felt like a bunch of scenes just cobbled together, and was just dull, but the actors in it were great, yeah i guess they can one up it in the sequel but honestly this movie didn't really leave me clamoring to see anymore of this spiderman.

Gwen's totally going to die in the next one. SHe's smoking hot tho and it'll be a shame to see her go..

And yeah he'll be an old man but still will look like he's 12.
