MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN: Something FANTASTIC FOUR Related Is Coming To Insomniac Games' PS4 Title

Marvel's Spider-Man will be getting something "fantastic" soon and many believe it will be another Spidey suit. Will Peter soon be able to don the Future Foundation costume or the Bombastic Bagman?

Something "fantastic" is coming to Marvel's Spider-Man.

Insomniac Games' critically acclaimed action-adventure starring your friendly neighborhood web-slinger has been a smash hit on PlayStation 4. Released in September, Marvel's Spider-Man has sold through over nine million copies as of November 25, 2018. The 2018 Game of the nominee has seen three episodic expansions drops as part of The City That Never Sleeps DLC bundle, but it doesn't appear as if the fun is over quite yet.

Marvel's Fantastic Four Week kickoff livestream featured all sorts of exciting news related to Marvel's First Family, but one of the most intriguing bits came at the very end when Marvel's Ryan Penagos teased "Something 'fantastic' is coming to Marvel's Spider-Man real soon."

Unfortunately, that's all we were left with as Marvel's vice president and creative executive of Marvel New Media could not share any details.  "I can’t tell you anything more right now because Tim will probably hurt me,” Penagos continued. “But you’ll want to keep an eye out for this. Trust me, it’s going to be amazing and fantastic.”

Exactly what this content might be is anyone's guess, but speculation points to a new suit for Spidey. Spider-Man has a few outfits gifted to him by the Fantastic Four, including the hilarious Bombastic Bagman, a spare Fantastic Four costume that Peter wore when Reed Richards was analyzing his black symbiote suit. The costume was complete with a brown paper bag that Peter Parker used as a mask to cover his face. What's more, Johnny Storm stuck a "Kick Me" sign to his back.

Another possible costume is the black-and-white Future Foundation suit.

Sony Interactive Entertainment, Insomniac Games, and Marvel team up to create a brand-new, authentic Spider-Man adventure exclusively for PlayStation 4. Take control of an experienced Peter Parker who is more masterful at fighting crime.

What sort of Fantastic Four related content do you think is coming to Marvel's Spider-Man?

I feel like it'll be something a little more substantial, but maybe I'm just reading into it. It'd be cool for another DLC featuring Johnny.

Marvel Game Universe...this shit is really happening.

@auditore - No it’s not

I think too many of you movie universe fans don’t understand just how dumb & really pointless it is to do a video game universe

There is honestly zero appeal to it at all unless you have a bunch of smaller games like the size of Destiny packs. Not the level of AAA titles

A video game universe is just pointless

@Nebula - ok I will explain

You see we had Phase 1 marvel movies as a way to introduce the avengers but also build up interest in Avengers. Avengers would be an event level film

The only real event level game ever created was Super Smash Bros considering all the franchises that show up into the game

There’s the additive that video game stories could take up to 20 hours to flesh out & develop characters unlike film that has only 2 hours each film

There’s also the idea. Say you make a game universe like the MCU. A Cap game, Thor game, Hulk game, Iron Man game leading to an Avengers game. See the issue there is we have games of these heroes & we have the ultimate Avengers game in MUA1 which didn’t need any build up & had pretty much every major character in marvel in the game

Look at the Arkham series. Say there’s a Justice League game or a Superman game that takes place in that universe. Does it change anything? Not really. It doesn’t add anymore hype outside of “Rocksteady is creating a Superman/JL game”

And the most important reason is..... gaming is a single player narrative

Sure there are fun co op games but those games never really dive into the characters

Look at Batman, Snake, Mario, Kratos, Spider-Man, Master Chief, Marcus Fenoix, Joel & Elle, Nathan Drake, Lara Croft, Sonic, & many more. Their games focus a majority of the time on 1 character. Sure you may have something like GTA5 with multiple main characters but overall storytelling in gaming is at its superior when you focus on 1 or 2 characters with the second character not even being playing in regards to people like Elle & Boy

I don’t know. I just don’t see an appeal for a comic book game universe because it will only get overcomplicated & dull having to pay attention to continuity through a vast number of franchises

Which is another issue. I mean Nintendo takes forever putting out Mario & Zelda games so how many games do you guys think will be put out for these games? At most, a yearly release but that’s it. 1 game in the universe a year compared to how we have up to 2-3 MCU films a year

It’s just really over complicated & complex doing a game universe

The only way a game universe can work is if as I said, you make a lot of small scale destiny expansion level games which nobody wants

After the success of the Arkham series & Spider-Man, nobody wants a say 6 hour linear game for each of Cap, Iron Man, Thor, & Hulk to build up towards say a 10 hour Avengers linear game

Again to me, that’s just boring. Spider-Man & Arkham spoiled us all

LEVITIKUZ - 1/8/2019, 7:31 PM
Another major reason why it won’t work is we forget why the movies work

You see actors from different film series crossing over

With gaming, you don’t have that

Even with the DCAU, you had Batman. Then the team ended that & went to Superman & decided give Batman one more season. Then you had a smaller team from that work on Static. Then you had Batman Beyond. Then you had Justice League which was the only show they worked on. Then you had JLU

The DCAU worked because they stopped making new episodes of some of the shows they worked on to make a bigger show & the level of the shows kept getting bigger & bigger

You didn’t have new episodes of BTAS being made during JLTAS

@LEVITIKUZ - I mean... a Marvel Games universe could still work. If they’re set in the same continuity then it’d be fine. They don’t exactly have to connect.

Like, let’s say the Avengers Project uses the Avengers Tower from Spidey PS4. It doesn’t have to crossover w that game other than that

Fantastic 4 is being introduced to Marvel Contest of Champions, too. I knew the licensing for them would open up once this Fox deal closed. Very indicative it's about to be finalized; if not already.

Smh...ok first, I haven't been on here much lately because I started a full time job before the holidays(hooray for me)

Second, now with this new job & all these dlc coming to Spider-Man & few other PS4 games I wanted to play, I might get a PS4 in the very near future!

Not saying that's a bad thing, but... why? It might be my personal taste in games, but the Playstation has always had a ton of exclusives that interested me each generation, while the XBox had probably less than a handful over all generations.

Seen 3 theory's:

Bagman Suit

Future Foundation suit

Baxter Building added to the games map.

All of those would be cool

Smh they better add some mentions to The FF and X-Men next game. The only reference we got was a sticky note saying RR. Hopefully that was abour Reed richards and not Randy Robertson

It’s called an imagination people. I’m sure there were sceptics that thought a Spiderman game can never be up for game of the year, and here we are. Folks said Spiderman games can be repetitive etc.

If there’s a way to immerse people into this dynamic marvel universe. Give us a feel for the characters and maybe even relive some of the classic moments in marvel history, that would be awesome.

Maybe, there can be a DLC where spidey has to stop the Hulk from wrecking midtown, and SHIELD plays a part in it, or you’re the Thing and you have to do that.

Or maybe there’s scenarios where you’re playing with other characters or going to Latveria to stop Doom, etc. can be fun. It’s ablut fun. Fun. Not impossible.
