SPIDER-MAN 2 Creative Team Confirms They're "[Mixing] Things Up" With Venom's Story In Upcoming Sequel

We still don't know who becomes Venom in Spider-Man 2, but the video game's creative team has strongly hinted they plan to shake the character's story up (possibly confirming those Harry Osborn theories).

What exactly Venom will bring to the table in Spider-Man 2 remains a closely guarded secret. While we know Peter Parker will don the alien Symbiote for at least part of this adventure, it's currently unclear who becomes the Venom that terrorises him and Miles Morales.

As of now, Harry Osborn appears to be the most likely candidate, though we can't help but wonder whether that's a clever misdirect to cover up the fact Eddie Brock is indeed secretly part of this sequel.

However, comments from Senior Creative Director Bryan Intihar (via GameFragger.com) suggest this take on Venom might not adhere all that closely to the comic books.

"Our philosophy has always been that we want to respect the history of the franchise and the Spider-Man DNA, but also not be afraid to mix things up," he explains. "The same holds true for one of its iconic characters, Venom."

"While the look of the character and several of his powers/abilities should be familiar to fans, this will be a unique Venom story that we are excited for everyone to experience this October."

Spider-Man 2 Senior Narrative Director Jon Paquette added to that by saying the main reason for introducing Venom was to push both Peter and Miles to their limits. "With the introduction of the symbiote into our franchise, our heroes are forced to battle darkness, in all its forms," he teases. "We wanted to see them change, both inside and outside, and feel the effect it has on those around them."

"And when Venom takes control, they face the real danger that they could lose themselves, and their loved ones, forever."

Could that last part suggest both Peter and Miles will don the black costume and lose themselves to Venom? There is precedent for that on the page, and it would be a unique twist which makes this story all the more personal. It might also leave the door open to Eddie appearing down the line, albeit without being shoehorned into the story this Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales follow-up is telling.

Spider-Man 2 is set to be released on October 20.

Bro you don't need to respect nothing. Mix things up as much as you want, just tell a good story.

As long as those "mix up's" result in a good story! That will make a great game. That's what we're expecting, that's what we deserve, and that is what we should get.

I mean it's no secret now it's Harry that's Venom.

Honestly I don't think Harry is venom. It just seems too obvious with that "we're gonna heal the world" line, when they aren't outright confirming it.

Especially when you consider the symbiote didn't fully bond with Harry in the tank, and there's suggestions the symbiote might jump to others like miles.

I actually think Harry becomes anti venom after getting into contact with Mr negative.

My guess is the following:

1. Harry was bonded with the symbiote to get healed.
2. The symbiote gets loose and bonds with Peter.
3. Peter starts getting all aggressive and Miles has to take him down and get rid of the symbiote.
4. The symbiote re-bonds with Harry to become Venom.
5. Peter and Miles take down Venom, either freeing Harry or killing him.
6. Eddie Brock then gets the symbiote, like is a post credit stinger.

No idea how Kraven figures into all of this. He is likely the early villain hunting Spider-Man, much like Mr. Negative was the early villain in the first one before Doc Ock took over.

The other scenario I see if that Harry become Venom, but then gets redeemed. I think he might be playable towards the end as a result. In which case, Brock is just in the game as a teaser. If they make another one, they could have Venom and Carnage, which might make sense given that they have used pretty much all the other villains.

I'm just guessing here and have no idea. All I know is that I can't wait for this game.

That does seem like the best type of creative freedom creatives can take nowadays. Honor what has come before while trying to learn the most from it to come up with something new.

I wish I had a PS5 to lose myself again in some games.
