At the end of 2012, Doctor Octopus finally managed to score the ultimate victory over Spider-Man when he trapped Peter Parker's mind in his dying body. With that, we bid farewell to the hero and were forced to welcome the Superior Spider-Man, a version of Peter inhabited by the evil Otto Octavius.
As time passed, Doc Ock went from villain to anti-hero and Peter eventually returned. For some fans, it remains one of the most despised eras in Spider-Man's history; others, meanwhile, love the story and this interpretation of Spidey.
If you fall into that latter camp, we're sure you'll be pleased to know that Hot Toys will release a Superior Spider-Man figure later this year/early 2025. Based on the unlockable suit from Spider-Man 2 - which itself is adapted from the comics - there's no denying that this is a suitably formidable take on the "Superior" web-slinger.
Insomniac Games recently announced that New Game+ and a whole host of new costumes will be added to Spider-Man 2 on March 7. Speculation continues to run rampant that Spider-Man 3 will feature the Superior Spider-Man, though that would arguably feel like something of a retread given Pete's villainous turn while wearing the Symbiote.
Back to Hot Toys, though, and new versions of Peter and Miles Morales have already been released, with Venom and Symbiote Spider-Man somewhere on the horizon.
