Earlier today, we spoke to Yuri Lowenthal about playing The Flash, Shazam, and Mirror Master in Injustice, but while we had the actor on the phone, we had to ask about Spider-Man 2. The first trailer for the game was recently released, and between those hints about Kraven the Hunter, the upgrades to the web-slinger's costume, and the big Venom reveal, we were left with plenty to talk about.
Horror icon Tony Todd (Candyman) will lend his voice to Venom in the sequel and, as you might expect, Yuri can't wait to step back into Spidey's boots and square off with the classic comic book villain.
"I’m over the moon. I’m over the moon to be back playing Spider-Man again and it’s a dream come true that this is my job," he told us. "Tony, I’ve worked with once before, and he is an absolute dream, a gentleman, and an all-around cool guy. I cannot wait to get into trouble with him!"
Needless to say, there wasn't much the actor could say about Spider-Man 2 just yet, but he did share his thoughts on the response to the trailer from fans. "I knew they wanted to hear something. Anything. And while we can’t really tell them anything, they at least wanted to know that the game is coming [Laughs]. I hoped they would be as happy as they were and that the response would be positive, but all I can say is just know that I’m as excited as you about [the game]!"
Spider-Man 2 doesn't have a release date, though it's not expected to arrive until at least 2023. COVID has probably delayed things, while finishing Spider-Man: Miles Morales was likely a priority for Insomniac as well. Something tells us it will be worth the wait, though, and we're very excited about seeing Yuri step back into the role of Peter Parker because he's an undeniably amazing Spidey.
In the meantime, you can hear his work in Injustice when it's released next Tuesday, October 19!
