I have come here to literally smack myself in the face. I have been so misinformed, might even go as far as calling myself ignorant.
In my last article, i had written about my problems with the Spiderman Reboot. Concerns such as the actor chosen, Andrew Garfield, and the script chosen. Well it has been revealed that they are doing a High School script, which is what i wanted in the first place. And that's a promising start already. But the main reason i had to write this article is Andrew Garfield.
So everyone has been through this, and i'm not just saying that to make myself less faulty. But there are movies/actors that you just want to hate. Andrew Garfield was that for me, when they chose him, and i learned he was 27, i didn't want to like him, and i didn't. I right away said that he was a bad choice. Not anymore. I have recently watched The Social Network, Andrew Garfield has a supporting role in that movie as Eduardo Saverin, the co-founder of Facebook. The movie was good yes, but i really want to praise Garfield's performance. This is the first film i've seen him in, and being that it's recent, it's a very good basis on the level of his acting.
He played a very convincing role, and i have no doubt that when that ability, he could be able to do Peter Parker easily. The only thing that would mess it up for him is if the Director does a bad job. Otherwise the movie now sounds great to me, although I'm not too hot on the 3D, it's a lot better than what i had initially perceived it to be. That being said, I'm kind of disappointed that Jesse Eisenberg is getting all the praise for The Social Network and Justin Timberlake getting the rest. I'd agree with giving JT the praise because nobody ever expected him to be such a good actor, and no one believed me when i said JT has potential when i watched him in Alpha Dog. This is sorta getting out of topic, but I hate the "Oscar Buzz" being connected to Eisenberg's performance, he's a one dimensional actor, and this role is no different than what he has done in the past. He's a Michael Cera/Jay Baruchel Prototype. The performance was great, but it was the role that was perfect for him, not just his ability to act.
Back to Garfield, he would've been my choice for Best Supporting Actor for 2010 had Christian Bale not given than performance in The Fighter. Bale wins easily.
Back to Spiderman. I have had a change of heart. I am now at ease with this upcoming reboot. It looks promising, and with my recent and belated discovery of Garfield's talent, this movie also has a strong cast. Hopefully the Writer and Director can compliment and make a great film and not just for entertainment as I expect it to be, especially with the 3D choice.
I am still a bit skeptical because i don't want to be disappointed, but as of this moment, I will be getting a ticket for this movie on opening day.
