MTV had the opportunity to speak with Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield. Much of what Garfield had to say about Marc Webbs upcoming Spider-Man film has already been said many times by the young star. However, he did touch on a few new topics that proved interesting.

This from MTV...

It's interesting you bring up "Doctor Parnassus." You shot that with Heath Ledger right after he filmed "The Dark Knight." Did the two of you ever talk about his experience bringing an iconic comic book character to the screen?

We never really talked about that. The movie wasn't out, but I knew how excited he was. I was talking to his friends about it, who had been involved in the process, and they were so jazzed about how people were going to react to him. What I learned from watching him in that movie was that it was so honest and specific. Somehow he made this very broad character incredibly honest and human. There's so much to be learned from that, because otherwise during the big fight sequences, who cares, unless you have a good understanding of who the characters fighting are? I'm really excited for Marc Webb, because he's a real stickler for that sort of stuff. He wants everything to come from Peter Parker's dilemma, Gwen Stacy's dilemma, Uncle Ben's dilemma — everyone's struggles, so that in those bigger sequences, it's actually not just a cool fight, but there's heart and specificity.

I would imagine at this point everyone is giving you advice, mostly unsolicited, about the best way to bring Spider-Man to life. Is there one piece of advice that really sticks out for you as being spot-on?

I was told by someone who should be listened to — I'm not going to say who it was — he said, "Don't try and live up to it. Don't think you have to live up to what that image and that symbol means to people." And first I thought that was really reassuring. But then you go, "No, I really want to live up to that symbol." When I was 12-years-old I saw the struggle Peter Parker was going through to be of use to society, I wanted to live up to that. And I realized that even Peter Parker is trying to live up to that symbol of Spider-Man he's created. That's what makes him so special: he's undeniably human and going through the same struggles as everyone else. So you try to live up to that symbol and then you have to be OK not living up to it, because not even Peter Parker can do it.

Nice find HAWKS! As long as Marc Webb and the script don't let him down, Garfield has nothing to worry about. I had my doubts at first, but I'm sure that he'll be an awesome (or should that be amazing?) Spider-Man. :)

@ oderside --- AGREED 1000000% No point in this reboot unless it's done by Marvel Studios. If not, just continue the series with a story that was better than Raimi's intended Vulture/ Vulturess story.

"No point" in rebooting Spider-Man unless it's done by Marvel Studios? Really? Whatever, I think this could be quite awesome.

Marc Webb knows characters and relationships. (500) Days of Summer proved that. Whether or not he can do action is another story but I think his background in music videos may help him with that.

More and more I am thinking this guy is perfect for Peter Parker/Spider-Man. He seem to really understand the inner turmoil that is Spider-Man and how parker struggles with it. I am starting to get excited about this movie!

I'm gonna love this movie, it will be good for kids to start getting into him. On the other hand, The first CBM I ever watched was Batman, with Keaton and Jack. Then as I matured in my comic book nerd state, I always went back to watch that film, and every time I ask myself, Burton did that film not as an origin film, but like you already know who Batman is, he's just facing a new enemy, why don't they do that in films more than they did? Like they did with the X-men film, it showed flashbacks to get the origins of Wolverine, like in the comics, that is until they Fricked his character up by making an origin story, whick you were never suppose to know.

Uncle Ben's dilemma is getting killed right away. Right? If they are developing Uncle Ben's dilemma, that means too much early on origin story for me. :-(

i want this film to be great,but i think it'll only be great if it was either made by marvel studios or it was spider-man 4 & not a reboot.

Sooo... he, like, didn't even talk to Heath? He talked to Heath's friends?
And he learned Heath's moves from the movie. Like, he never even MET Heath?

I was going to comment on someone's comment, but I forgot which one it was. Probably too distracted by Brashlight's avatar. LOL!

$hi+, I remember now!
@HelaGood: You're not? I am!
I am very much certain that he has none.
Nobody really has superhero capabilities, you know?
Not Tobey, not Nicholas Hammond, not Chris Evans, nor Routh.
Those amazing feats they've done? It's called SFX and CGI.
They don't really do those stuff, you know?
Cling to walls, fly and pull firetrucks.
It's just movie magic (not real magic, mind you. Technology and art.)

LMFAO!

Garfield's a GREAT actor, from what little I have seen so far. Already had Redford and Gilliam single him out. He's one who'll turn it into something totally new, in a good way imo.

@SuspenseSmith agree
