Deleted THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Post-Credits Scene Teases Future Villain

"You see, we were going to have a post-credits scene, and this is what it would have revealed..."

Millions of fans verbalized Pavlovian excitement and then abrupt disappointment this last weekend when The Amazing Spider-Man 2's credits finished rolling. Perhaps to the detriment of all comic book adaptations from now till the end of time, Marvel Studios has conditioned us movie-lovers to anticipate a post-credits stinger at the end of our blockbusters; ultimately ending in disappointment when our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man didn't have one.

...or maybe it did, at least at one point.

Keen viewers may remember that Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper), father of Harry Osborn (Dane Dehaan), passed away early in the film, an event in which we never spotted an actual body to attach to (No preemptive pun intended... you'll see). Something which seemed to be a recurring theme with dads in the movie (We never actually saw Peter's dad die) You may also have noted that when one last shot of his bed chambers were shown, doctors and Oscorp employees were performing a laser scan of his body.

Well, thanks to the guys over at Geek Tyrant, it looks like we have an explanation of what that enigmatic scene was leading to! You see, wewere going to have a post-credits scene, and this is what it would have revealed.

Let's zoom in for a closer look!

President Nixon from Futurama!!!
President Nixon from Futurama!!!

Here's an excerpt from Geek Tyrant's explanation:

Apparently, the original post credits scene in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was going to feature Norman Osborn's head in a jar. It seems Oscorp is secretly keeping his head cryogenically frozen so that they can bring him back to life when technology catches up to them.

The scene is described as showing the shadow man from the film walking up to Norman's cryogenically frozen head in a chamber and saying, "Wake up old friend."

In case you didn't notice the head in a jar.
In case you didn't notice the head in a jar.

Well, this is certainly an interesting turn of events, and if the film wasn't so sloppily edited I would almost be sure Norman would be returning, deduced from his very ambiguous death scene and this former-end-credits scene. As things stand though, it may have been cut because they are reconsidering pursuing this story thread. Whether Cooper's noggin makes a cameo appearance later on or not, here's hoping we get the full-scene on the DVD/ blu-ray release!

What do you guys think? Did you ever think Norman Osborn was actually dead? Is Norman going to come back in future installments? Will he be returning as the Goblin; maybe as the ultimate incarnation of the goblin, or could his recent disembodiment work well for an Ultimates-style twist on fan-favorite Mysterio? Let me know in the comments below!

sounds cool but honestly Im done with these spiderman films

usually movies get better not worse after the first mediocre film following the usual superhero origin formula(ironically the same character that started the modern superhero movie origin trend)not counting superman 1978.

superhero formula-
1.introduce characters
2.superhero origin(tragedy, training, accident, wrong time wrong place, etc
3.setup for main villain
4.finale with main villain
5.movie ends

I have to agree. This film was very, very messy. It somehow managed to be both paint-by-numbers and far too overstuffed with story threads that went nowhere, and should've been cut for a more cohesive experience. That being said, I wish them the best with the next sequel, I just hope they don't try to pull Iron Man 2 duty on that one, too.

Why do they keep hiding the man in the shadow's face? It's not like we know who he is. When they finally reveal his face, no one is going to go, "GASP, it's [insert name here]!" That kind of thing can only work for a tv series and then you'd have to hide his body language as well.

The movie was horrible. I have ZERO faith in anything else Spidey related from this studio.

Look, they can't even get the game right:

Well no shit... one of the reasons this film sucked was due to terrible continuity in is own damn movie. The pacing was all over the place with scenes missing almost everywhere. Seriously, they cut about 20-30 scenes from this thing. Lets see the cut scenes;

- All scenes with Max Dillon's mother
- All scenes with Mary Jane
- All scenes concerning Peter searching for the man who murdered Uncle Ben
- Scene where the Green Goblin is shown outside Oscorp confronting Felicia
- Scene where the Green Goblin deals with Donald Menken, apparently similar to the scene with the Green Goblin killing Mendel Stromm
- Scene explaining how the Gentleman knows Harry
- Scene with The Gentleman and Norman Osborn's head
- Scene with Venom symbiote in Oscorp room
- Scene from trailer where Peter is cradling a body at the top of the clock tower (Not the bottom)
- Scene showing the resolution of the clock tower battle with Green Goblin
- Scene where someone states "We have plans for you Peter Parker"

That's just a few I remember from watching the film and comparing it to the trailers.

The scene with Norman's head especially should have been included because the scene when their are Doctors around his dying/dead body shows the Cryo-box that his head should have been put in for the cliff-hanger ending.

It feels like their original plan was 'kill Harry and Gwen' and then have Norman as the main villain for TASM3 with the Sinister Six comprised of Doc Ock, Vulture, Rhino, Electro, Lizard with Green Goblin or The Gentleman being the leader.

I'm glad they cut this scene out, they don't need to be copying Futurama. Besides, no one wants to see Chris Copper's pickled head on a robotic body. I didn't like Dane Dehaan's Goblin costume either, but I think they can still do a serious Green Goblin that looks similar to the 616 costume.

1. they should have deleted everything related to rhino.
2. they should have developed harry-peters relationship more.
3. they shouldnt have killed gwen just yet. in movie 3, you can have green goblin as the main villian with another minor one. then kill gwen.
4. they should have not done the peter going underground in the subway scene.
5. they should have released scenes like the man with the coat meeting harry, scene with norman osbornes head and other scenes that do not relate to peter in the dvd/bluray.

having electro as the main villian and harry as the friend slowly falling to the dark side should have been the focus of this movie. maybe push it with introducing green goblin at the last minute and he kills gwen. End of movie.

That would establish the next movie, TASM 3 very well. we'd have the green goblin and another smaller villian: maybe aleksei doing rhino mech suit trials.

Yeah the FOX ad space was a joke.

Makes ppl think its all connected when its really not, would've loved a proper exclusive made X-Men clip just for the end credits.

Instead we got a stupid advert.

I have to say!!!
If you didn't like the movie that's fine. Everyone has,an is entitled to his or her opinion. But, don't be a HATER.. Unless you have earned millions of dollars
writing, directing, or producing. Don't come here saying what the should have done. If you know better the the people who made it? Then do it. I'll go see it. And I'll let you know if I was entertained. That's why I go to the movies.
