Robert Orci Discusses SINISTER SIX & VENOM Spin-Offs

Since it was announced that Sony were planning spin-offs from their Amazing Spider-Man movies which would focus on some of Spidey's villi ans (namely Venom and the group known as the Sinister Six), fans have wondered hoe exactly they'd tackle the job - would they be straight up bad guys? Antiheroes? Or would they cop out and turn them into do-gooders? Well when asked these very questions, without going into specifics, writer/producer Robert Orci reveals a little of their thought process moving forward, and name-checks one of the more popular antiheroes of recent times.

"That's the discussion we're having right now; how exactly do you do that, and how do you do it without betraying the audience and making them all mean? Drew Goddard [Cabin Fever] is going to be writing that one, so it's kind of his problem. [Laughs] I'm kidding. We're all working on each other's stuff. So we want to be true to it, but there are some antiheroes in this day and age. There's been examples of that even on TV -- Vic Mackey on The Shield, one of the great antiheroes of all time. There are ways to milk that story. Audiences have seen everything. They've seen all the good guys who never do anything wrong. Is there a story in seeing the other side? That's the challenge, and that's the fun. I'm not sure how we're going to do that yet."

Orci also confirms that Oscorp is going to be the evil organization that sends these villains in Spidey's direction, and hints that they'll also be responsible for the creation of Venom. Guess we can say goodbye to that alien symbiot origin. "Oscorp plays an important part in how our villains get created, obviously, in the first one. So because Peter becoming Spider-Man came out of that, rather than saying, "And then this alien came from space," or whatever, they're doing human-hybrid, weird stuff at Oscorp.". Venom in "Spider-Man 3" didn't look bad but I still hope it turns out better than the one we got.

Very much looking forward to the Venom movie. As long as they cast it write, it should be great.

I think grif's keyboard developed a lisp. Having trouble with that 's'.

Sinister Six could be great and groundbreaking for the CBM genre in that it's doing a film from a villains point of view instead of the hero.

Here's a few questions I have in regards to these films...

Both Movies:

-When are the both of these films set to appear within the franchise?

Venom:

- Is there a particular villain we'll see Venom face off against or will he just be like a scary street brawler in the night?

Sinister Six:

- Will Spider-Man be featured within this movie? (Cameo or Antagonist)

- Will this film replace The Amazing Spider-Man 4 set to release in 2018 or will that film debut as a continuation of the sinister six movie?

Other than that I'm sure we'll get all of our answers after we see the Amazing Spider-Man 2 + 3

We already have Doc Ock, Vulture, Rhino, Electro I wonder who'll fill in those roles or replace them? Hmmmm?

Mine too. And Carnage would be a beast if they cast him right! My dream is still Jim Carrey, but there's probably someone else that could pull it off.

@ JamesMan

IMO, if they did it right, a Sinister Six film could be something special.

It was inevitable anyways IMO. Ever since Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight, villains have been taking more and more of the spotlight in these movies (Loki in Thor, Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness, and Electro in the marketing for TASM 2), so them having their own movie wouldn't be much of a stretch at this point.

While I would love the Sinister Six to appear on the big screen, I just don't think a movie dedicated to only them would work.
