Why The Amazing Spider-man is not as Good as Spider man (2002)

I had just seen the Amazing Spider-man for the second time and I thought that it was the coolest looking spider man movie I've seen since the Sam Rami version of 2004 Spider-man 2. Me and a couple of my friends then headed out and started to have a discussion on which of the two was better I really didn't have an opinion mainly because I was floored by the special effects. So I saw it again for the third time and I got to say that it is not as good as the first movie or the second movie not even close. The problems that I had with this movie is that Peter Parker is just sort of and unlikable emmo and rude spirited teenage especially to Aunt May. I mostly felt like that Peter Parker was sort of changed as far as his personality to make him more relatable to teenagers which is the target audience for this film. Yet by doing that they just took some of the core aspects of who Peter Parker is in the comic books. It worked at first yet as it goes along it just bothered me the whole time I was watching it. I felt no connection with Aunt May or Uncle Ben for that matter and when Uncle Ben does get killed it just doesn't have the same emotional impact for me as a spider-man fan. What I liked in the very first spider-man film is that it builds both Uncle Ben and Peter for a real father son relationship. The whole point of their relationship was that very famous quote "with great power comes great responsibility" which was why I really didn't care for it that much because the didn't say the one famous quote that defines spider-man. I know I'm gonna be jumped on for saying well this isn't like the comic its it own thing. Which I completely understand I don't mind people making changes for the better but there is a core to each character in a superhero film. Its like saying oh Bruce Wayne's parents weren't all killed one actually survived. Its like no that's not how it is that is the turning point to which the character becomes a superhero and the movie left me sort of uninterested. I do like the scene with him listening to Uncle Ben's last words on the cellphone that actually was the only thing that was really emotional and moving in this movie. The other thing I had a problem with is The Lizard/Dr.Conners it seems like to me he was just more of a plot device rather than an actual character. A lot of things seemed to be rehashed from the Green Goblin character into this one. There not much new here its just kind of the same of stick we say 10 years ago. I think a lot of this is setting up for the sequel Norman Osborne especially the scene where Dr.Conners is injecting himself with the serum. Maybe they can make the Green Goblin more like in the Ultimate Spider-man making him a hulk type green monster like in this movie. Now I do agree with one thing about the movie was that Gwen and Peter's relationship is much more funny and charming than in the first movie. Spider man (2002) was more forced, this movie actual felt natural. Yet it was kinda creeping me out when we saw Peter with tons of pictures of Gwen and the only reason people are not brave enough to call him a stalker is because he looks like [frick]ing Andrew Garfield which I got to admit have a bit of a man crush myself. Also I had a problem with the fact that they introduce the storyline of what happened to peter's parents in the first couple of minutes of the film and just completely abandon that storyline half way. I mean it feels like they did that more to change the typical guy goes on a field trip gets bitten by a spider omg his spider man which I could appreciate cause they obviously want to make it more realistic in its own way. I think the villain in the Amazing Spider-man is weak in that you got a really good actor but don't have as much of the complex writing of the first movie not much for him to do really. This may be a minor pick but I really didn't like the costume but it didn't bother me while I was watching the movie. I like the fact that they added humor in this which is a criticism that I had with the Rami movies I liked it at times but sometimes I thought dude your kinda being a dick at this point your just shoving it in at times. I also thought the idea of him having mechanical web shooters was just a change maybe for the better in the movie cause I thought they would show Peter's science skills a little more. No its just stolen technology they took take element of him being a scientist in the film. Plus there's no point of them being he never runs out of web shooters show why do they have it anyway. I like the fact Rami made them organic it made more sense, yet they just threw out their to make all to fan boys shut up about all the things they were nick picking at during the original films. Now I know i gonna get people going like [frick] you I hate you suck. I just wanted to clarify that I didn't hate it just had some problems with when I first saw I was with y'all I thought it was quote on quote amazing. however after seeing it a couple times I just thought it was okay. So don't go around trying to kill me or anything I thought this movie was okay. If I was to give it like a range between 1 and 10 it would be a 6.8 that's it folks see you next time.

No offense man, but your article has a lot of spelling errors, and little to no punctuation...

Plus, overall, TASM ended up being my favorite film of the summer. Avengers was #2 because I spoiled too much of the movie before seeing it. My fault lol.

TASM however was near perfect. Only complaints lie with the fact that its not gonna be a fully-developed film/characters until the sequel comes out. A lot of storythreads were placed without being explored, but they handled lizard and everything alright.

Fave thing about these new one's:

Villains live!!! Connors will be around to help peter in the sequel with his powers/new baddies...

The avengers was just as soulless as TASM and TASM wasn't even soulless, Peter and Gaens relationship? That is one of the best couples in a CBM. I felt nothing in the avengers Coulson dying was emotionless he cracked a damn joke before he died. The Avengers was to silly to allow any connection and heart to flow in. TASM had better acting and better relationships in between the characters the lizard saying " no mom, no dad,no uncle you're all alone" and cap Stacy saying he isn't alone and dying after ultimately becasue of it gave me a heart sinking feeling. But the 2002 one had a better villian and actor but I think both of the Villians needed to be established throughout the trilogy rather than being the first Villians in the movie. I like TASM more than any Raimi film becasue the story was more fleshed out and it wasn't campy plus the actors are so much better. I can't see how you could like 2002 better especially when you don't see uncle Ben get shot. The voicemail was also an emotional scene becasue it must have been really hard to listen to the last words of your loved one when you practically killed them.

I feel both films had there own strong points, TASM for the most part got Peter right for the most part, but with one big problem: He was a punk to Aunt May. I understand they were trying to make him real, thus making him a bit more rude, but I really wish they wld have toined it down, it's like with Tobey they mad ehim TOO nice & he came off whining & annoying, with this one he came off rude. I prefer Andrew over Tobey anyday but they really messed up making him so rude. And I agree with you about "With great power.." line, if they were going for differant what they should've done is have at the end when Peter listens to Uncle Ben's message, Uncle Ben says it in the message, I think that wouldv'e been cool. I like what they did with Flash, he was USLESS in the first movie, like really just pointless, I like what they did here, he was a character & not a scene. I partially agree with you on Dr.Connors, I think Ryse Ifans did great as Connors, but the development was rough, the Lizard looked great but yeah its like you said he seemed just like plot idea. While I'm a girl & my opinion will be slightly biased do to hwo much I prefer Andrew Grafield over Tobey Maguire I'd give it an 8/10, but if they had someone else & not Garfield then a 7/10, overall pretty cool article.

Yea Peter was a douche to aunt may but that was apart of his development into Spidey, the eggs are the perfect device used to show that he was to busy thinking about himself, and in the end he learned he had to put others before himself thus he brought the eggs to aunt may at the end after the big fight. TASM was a big ass orgin story, I've said it many times before, he doesn't turn into the Spidey we all know and love till the end after he saves the city. Before that he's just a kid in a mask lurking for revenge and trying to stop a beast he created.

Worst part of TASM :

"My dad died, there was a funeral..."

It just highlighted the fact that Uncle Ben got nothing at all. For such a dramatic movie you'd expect that death to be felt the most.

Best Part of TASM:

Battle at Midtown High

While I enjoyed the movie I felt it borrowed too much from every other CBM made and it looks like the sequel is heading in the Iron Man 2/Superman direction of gifts bestowed by an absent father.

@Breakurbatman well it's the whole trilogy that's about the bestowed father thing not just the sequel.

But I could agree TASM didn't have any memorable moments, except the crane scene. If this was a standalone film it could be forgotten

Pete was actually a douche to Aunt May for both selfish an insecure reasons. Selfish in the obvious reasons as seen in the movie with the eggs showing how he'll be the Pete we all know and love.
Insecure because in particular when hes telling her to go to sleep its because he just wants to avoid conflict and just can handle it(i can relate because being 17 this is how i would react). He's insecure about te real world and doesn't want to be bothered by it which is what I feel May embodies (the real world)
He's caught up in a fantasy life but by the end of the film when things get real we see a Pete who has somewhat learned that his fantasy life has gotten very real very fast an he needs to be ready but he has his moments (ie "but those are the best kinds of promises" which will once again bite him in the future.

Tobey Spider-man might have been whiny or emo. But at least he wasnt a complete Douchebag. He steals, He lies and on top of that he treats his aunt like Sh!t. He dosnt learn nothing for Uncle Bens Death. This movie made me wish i was the Hulk. So i could kick is skinny Ass.
