Cool New SUICIDE SQUAD Concept Art Shows Off Alternate Takes On The Joker, Harley Quinn, And More

More Suicide Squad concept art has surfaced today, and while it appears to have come from a fairly late stage in the pre-production process, it still offers up some interesting alternate designs...

Suicide Squad was recently nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, but it was the movie's costumes which really caused a stir last year. Now, Andrew Hunt (via Batman-News) has revealed some of his artwork and we see some familiar and not so familiar designs. The Joker's tattoos were clearly going to get more screentime at one point as the Clown Prince of Crime is wearing just a tie here.

However, even more interesting are the shots of Harley Quinn with a (nude) angel and devil on her shoulders. That's reminiscent of imagery from her wackier adventures in the DC Universe and something which may have been contemplated for live-action at one point. It would have made for an interesting visual anyway, and could very well be used down the line in Gotham City Sirens.

I am wondering - to which of the 7 versions of the film was this concept art drawn for?

I'm at a point when I'm glad we got Leto's Joker, as much as the performance really irked me. The dialogue and character actions were very Joker-like, but the performance didn't sit well with me. And yet I couldn't stop thinking about it. There is something perfectly The Joker about that. All the same, the number one problem was his look and appearance. If it was more traditional (relatively speaking) it would have fared much better. Still, he will need to tone it down if they continue Leto's involvement down the line. He just doesn't seem to fit into the Snyder films.

@MosquitoFarmer - I've gotten used to the look but I prefer the all metal teeth from the costume test

@MosquitoFarmer - Leto's Joker has potential, but they need to tone down his look a bit (another dip in bleach perhaps, maybe give him some dental work?). The biggest issue is that they need to give him the space he needs to shine, and they can't rush his development. An uneven script will create uneven characters.

@Philip - Keep him lurking in the shadows, sending out his minions to do his dirty work. Make him elusive and only seen in viral videos . Make Batman have to be a detective to find him.

@TheFamousJMC - I like your basic idea, but I dislike the viral videos. Instead, just have every road lead back to him.

Batman catches a bank robber? Joker's behind it.
Batman catches someone who planted a bomb? Joker's behind it.
Batman busts a drug ring? Joker's behind it.

You can also add this new direction to who Joker's become after Batman knocked his teeth out. Have his goons mock him and say that's become afraid of the Bat - only to get their heads smashed in by him personally, as there's actually some truth to it, but he (obviously) would never admit it.
(Perhaps that's even one of the dark secrets that Harley brought out of him?)
