David Ayer Brought In An On-Set Therapist For The Cast Of SUICIDE SQUAD
It seems Suicide Squad director David Ayer is an advocate of getting incredibly authentic performances out of his actors. However, according to Adam Beach (who plays 'Slipknot' in the film), the director always had a safety net on hand - just in case he created any real life villains!
We've heard about actors going to great lengths to get into character before. It appears that's something that Suicide Squad director David Ayer is a big fan of. According to Adam Beach, who will play 'Slipknot' in the upcoming DC/WB film, Ayer encouraged his cast to deliver the most authentic performance possible. Speaking to E! Online, Beach revealed that the Fury director always had a safety net on hand though - just in case any actor took his advice a little too far...
"David Ayer is about realism. So if your character is tormented, he wants you to torment yourself. He wants the real thing. We kind of have like a therapist on board if you fall off the wagon and really are villainous. There's a friend of [Ayer's] that's very unique in making sure we have our ground. Us actors explore very fine thin lines going to the dark side and he wants to make sure we finish a movie and don't disappear somewhere and then don't show up for work."
Here's hoping Ayer isn't responsible for creating any real life supervillains himself. Something tells me the actors on board will be just fine - but maybe somebody needs to have a quiet word with Jared Leto. The man set to play 'The Joker' in the movie recently sent some rather unusual gifts to his fellow castmates, as part of his own process to get into character. Hey, whatever works... right?
Suicide Squad will storm into theatres August 5, 2016.
