Filmmaker David Ayer recently vowed to stop talking about his "Ayer Cut" of Suicide Squad, but he has shared a couple of new images from that version of the movie, including a shot of Jared Leto's Joker.

When The Suicide Squad was released earlier this year, director David Ayer issued a heartfelt statement making it clear he was done talking about the "Ayer Cut" of his 2016 Suicide Squad movie. With that, Warner Bros. no doubt hoped fans might move on from the whole #ReleaseTheAyerCut movement, while those with no interest in the original version were similarly glad that was the end of it.

Well, apparently not. Ayer has now shared some new stills from the movie on Instagram, at least one of which is clearly from his Director's Cut of the DC Comics adaptation.

That image shows The Joker surrounded by all the weird stuff he put together in order to welcome Harley Quinn "home." We're not sure how much this extended sequence would have added to Suicide Squad, but it's clear that much of Jared Leto's performance as The Joker was left on the cutting room floor.

The other shot shows a member of the Clown Prince of Crime's gang who has become known as the "Goat-Head Priest." He was among those who helped break The Joker out of Arkham Asylum when he kidnapped Dr. Harleen Quinzel and transformed her into a twisted reflection of himself in Harley Quinn.

The chances of Ayer's Suicide Squad ever seeing the light of day seem slim, especially as James Gunn's sequel didn't attract as big an audience as expected (meaning it's highly unlikely Warner Bros. would even consider spending money to finish off that original cut and market it at this point).

Who in the right mind still wants an extended cut of this crap? If not for Will Smith this movie is nigh unwatchable.

I’d want this only just to make the first one not completely ignorable. At the moment, this film and BOP don’t even exist or need to exist to watch TSS.

And yet, my boss prefers the first suicide squad. 🤦🏻‍♂️

@mcmurray - Regardless of your personal views, #ReleaseTheAyerCut has been steadily trending on Twitter for months. Plus, articles about the Ayer Cut still earn solid performance from readers and commenters.

Jesus, with Snyder it was desperate already but at least his fanboys carried the campaign and didn't force him to become so over-involved himself.
But if a director publishes a still with the added hashtag promoting his own name, that just seems sad.

Lol… it’s sad that this is a thing. Poor Ayer, hoping he can get the Snyderverse fans to jump on this release the Ayer cut crap. If the Ayer cut just adds more Leto Joker to it then I’m good on that, don’t care to see more of that version of Joker. But if it adds scenes with Katana where she actual does something then that’s be cool. But not worth a whole rerelease.

Will I be butt-hurt if the "Ayer Cut" never sees the light of day? A hard no. Would I watch it if it were ever released? Certainly. Is Ayer's going overboard with releasing stills from his version? Not necessarily. After all, if I was so bothered by it I wouldn't click on any articles concerning his version of the movie.

It would be nice to have a version of suicide squad that isn't complete shit. I like every DCEU movies besides it. But I don't think the ayer cut would deliver

Ayer recently put out a very heartfelt statement addressing this, and then at the very end said something to the effect of "I will not comment or say anything else regarding this topic." The open letter was filled with self-pity and was meant to make us understand that he's been "through the struggle" and somehow he is a tragic figure who has seen horrible and unspeakable things, and this somehow elevates him.

Sad.

That image of Joker perfectly sums up my feelings whenever I hear RestoretheSnyderverse or RestoretheAyerCut.

As far as I know the cut's practically done. Just needs new score (or borrow from other films by the same composer, like Gravity) and bit of the old spit and rub and it's good to go.

David let it go and move on.

No one seems to acknowledge the fact that there is no way Ayer could get away with releasing these stills of the film without WB's consent.

I honestly believe this is all slow burn marketing to release this practically finished version of the film on HBO Max before the end of the year. Why wouldn't they if it boosted subscribers for little money/effort?

Looking at lamb-head over there makes me wish for a cult-leader-like take on Joker.

I still think they should just release all the Joker scenes from the cut in a special release, add an interview with Leto on his Joker for extra content. That would probably get some views on HBO MAX given the Joker s popularity.

That's not a new still, it's just Leto contemplating the role he got.
