SUICIDE SQUAD: Geoff Johns & David Ayer Hint At The Movie's Plot

On the heels of some massive casting announcements/confirmations for David Ayer's Suicide Squad, we have Tweets from both the director & Johns which might just give us an idea which comic arc the movie will be taking inspiration from. More past the jump..

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that Warner Bros. and DC have put together one of the best CBM casts of all time (and Jai Courtney) for their Suicide Squad movie, but of course we still don't know what the plot will be. Director David Ayer has previously described the film as being similar to The Dirty Dozen, and that certainly fits in with the DC Comics team's MO, but the following Tweets from both Ayer and DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns might allow us to get a bit more specific with our speculation.

First let's address Ayer's Tweet. The Suicide Squad are a team of supervillians; many of whom are generally depicted as vicious, sadistic killers -- but they have been known to take on certain missions that allowed for some heroics from time to time. Ayer certainly seems to be suggesting that his Squad might be fighting the good fight when they debut on the big screen. Could we see the Jared Leto's Joker play the role of antagonist perhaps? Next, Johns implores us to "get reading" John Ostrander's run on the comic which lasted almost 70 issues between the late '80s and early '90s. This run kicked off with the "Trial by Fire" arc, which saw Amanda Waller gather together her Task Force X for the first time and put them to the test. This would definitely serve as a great starting point for the movie's first act anyway. What do you guys think?

DC's Enchantress is appearing on the he big screen before Marvel's. Marvel dropped the ball. Excited though for this lineup. Great cast. Should be a great movie.

It's going to weird seeing Jared Leto destroy in his role beside Jai Courtney being bland as usual.

Deathstroke is just kick ass....plain and simple! He would just downplay everyone else in the movie unless is was written in just right.

This is just really good news. Good or bad, I am loving the effort. With Snyder being an Executive Producer, I am sure he will have his costume designers come up with some sick uniforms.

I actually think the recent animated film would be a good starting point for a Suicide Squad film.

Amanda Waller gathers a group of villains and forces them to work for her or face immediate execution but their mission, which will see them come up against the Joker, isn't quite what it seems. Meanwhile, Batman is also on the case, hunting Joker for his own reasons. As Joker's plan comes to fruition, the Batman and the Suicide Squad must put their differences aside to stop Joker and expose Waller. But then, a chance to kill Batman isn't something a team of villains turned anti-hero may be able to turn down....

There's your plot. If Joker is the villain, Batman has to show up at some stage. So why not integrate him fully into the plot, not necessarily as the lead, but as the B story that intersects and eventually combines with the A story.

I guess this team then doesn't have Vixen. It would have been cool to see her, but she is more of a hero then villain. Also does this mean Jessie isn't in the film? I guess he could still be in it and just hasn't been named yet. I can totally see Lex paying the bills so Task Force X can exist.

An all star cast will cost them an arm and a leg and cut into the profits and make justifying a sequel more difficult. It's why Marvel goes with B list actors after RDJ.
