Sherlock Holmes producer Dan Lin has revealed to Total Film(via collider) that while a Justice League movie is on hold until the solo movies are made, DC Entertainment have given the villains a chance to shine and moved the Suicide Squad movie up the line..

“[Justice League] is on hold right now as DC sorts out its strategy,” the movie mogul told Collider magazine. “But it seems like they’re building to Justice League instead of going with the team movie first and doing individual movies after that.

“The only other [comic book movie] besides Justice League that I’m working on is the Suicide Squad. That’s a different kind of superhero movie.

“For us that’s a super villain movie. It’s almost Dirty Dozen set in the world of supervillains. That’s the only one for me that’s on the front burner.”



Great news for Squad fans..not so great for anyone expecting a Justice League movie anytime soon. But we already knew that DC were going to focus on the solo movies first, and for me thats a good thing..if only they would reveal some info about them!

As for who we might expect to see in the Suicide Squad movie, well there have been dozens of members and several incarnations of the team over the years. But several members have remained pretty much mainstays, and I would certainly be surprised if they didn't use them. Rick Flag Jr, Amanda Waller(although given her upcoming appearance in Smallville thats debatable), Deadshot and Bronze Tiger. Given that at some point DC want to produce a SGT. Rock movie, they could also tie him into this movie. His squad consisted of Bulldozer, Deadshot, Frank Rock, Havana, Killer Frost(Louise Lincoln), Major Disaster and Modem.

What do you folks think? Which collection of DC rogues would make the best movie Squad? And which actors should play them?

Great find ROR! Not familiar with the team to be honest (as I've said before I dont really read DC, just Marvel!) but after reading this article, I'd love to see a movie made!

AWESOME NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! old school suicide squad is the best thing DC has EVER put out. if you aren't familiar with it, go check it out!!! i LOVED this series! you just never knew which characters were going to die. no one was safe!!!!!

With the changing cast of characters, I think that SS would make a great TV show. Also, I think Deadshot would be a great villain in Nolan's Batman universe, but he pretty much has to be in this film. Amanda Waller is pretty integral as well. I don't know they could kill one or two off in missions to expand the cast and to give credence to the team's name.

suicide squad is a team of villains who are recruited by the government to do certain "black ops" jobs, like assassinations and things like that. the villains are expendable and really don't have anything else to live for, hence the name, Suicide Squad. there were a LOT of b-list villains in this series, and the government would use certain villains depending on the job, so not everyone was in every issue. it kept it new and fresh! great stuff, man. i definately recommend it!

Yeah he was there quite a bit..but I was thinking more along the lines of who would most likely make the movie line up. And he does indeed suck..but not quite as much as his name suggests! He is a vicious killer after all. I think they should go ahead with this, and at the end, have the team disbanded and the surviving member sent to Supermax.. theres your cast of villains to join Green Arrow in that movie!

@Axl: I think this will be good if they emphasize the villain aspect of the characters and not make it a typical superhero film. I hope Checkmate will be in the film. Captain Boomerang is a cowardly @sshole. I think he's needed in the film for just that reason. Make him a big fat greasy guy that you love to hate. I loved his story in Identity Crisis.

I wish Disney bought DC so we could have a Pixar Plastic Man film.

Don't know a whole lot about the Suicide Squad but I think Deadshot should be a main character in the film, Amanda Waller, played by the Smallville actress of course, finally put Adam Baldwin in the role for Rick Flag Jr, he would be perfect considering he voiced the role in Justice League Unlimited episode "Task Force X".

The Suicide Squad is a cool idea, but I have my doubts about the movie being made. It seems Marvel and DC keep on saying they are making these smaller projects, but in the end they just end up on the back burner till they fade out. Hopefully they do, though, because a SSquad movie would be something to see, for sure.

So they are not making a Justice League movie till all the solos are made. Well, by that rate, well see it by... 2050, maybe 2055? Come on DC, stop being so prudish. People spend more money on recessions so (every major film seems to break some record now), if anything, they should make them quicker than later if they are worried about money, ya know?

Go classic ... Bronze Tiger, Captain Boomerang, Nightshade, Killer Frost and Deadshot with Flagg and Waller in command. I would even love to see the Clock King (ala Justice League Unlimited) to use his abilities for the precision coordination. I think this is a great way to tie in classic DC characters with the villians of the Squad. I am looking forward to this movie.

I have nearly every issue of Ostrander's Suicide Squad. I am eagerly awaiting this movie and the return of the Squad in the upcoming crossover with Secret Six.

Get maybe Timothy Olyphant as Deadshot (not entirely sure on that though) and I'll be very interested.

And CCH Pounder as Waller is an absolute must.

A Suicide Squad movie has great potential. Love to see these other DC Superhero Teams make it into film also:The Doom Patrol(Original Team),Metal Men,Challengers of the Unknown,Legion of Superheroes,& Blackhawks(a WWII period piece,& include the War Wheel).
