SUICIDE SQUAD 2: James Gunn's Instagram Post Seemingly Confirms Comic Book Influence

It seems James Gunn will indeed be using John Ostrander's run on Suicide Squad as inspiration for his sequel/reboot. Is that a clue for Idris Elba's new character, who is speculated to be Bronze Tiger?

Just as James Gunn stated that DnA's (Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning) run on the cosmic Marvel comic book inspired his Guardians of the Galaxy films, the Brightburn screenwriter was previously said to be drawing inspiration from John Ostrander's classic stories for his Suicide Squad sequel.

However, it should be noted that Gunn never used a specific DnA storyline for his cinematic take on the Guardians, instead, he captured the spirit of their books and then twisted and morphed those ideas into something more in keeping with his own filmmaking sensibilities. It's likely that something similar will occur with Suicide Squad 2, aka The Suicide Squad

THR reported a few weeks back that Gunn would be looking to Ostrander's run on the title, and his latest Instagram Story (screenshot because Instagram Story posts disappear after 24 hrs) appears to confirm that will be the case. With Idris Elba initially hired to replace Will Smith as Deadshot before a purported script rewrite elected to have Elba portray a new character, most fans are expecting Elba to play Bronze Tiger, a prominent Suicide Squad member during Ostrander's run.
