THE SUICIDE SQUAD TV Spot Highlights The First Critical Reactions To James Gunn's DC Movie

A new TV spot for The Suicide Squad aired during tonight's Euro Championship qualifier, and it highlights a couple of the first critical reactions to the film. Shockingly, they're full of praise!

A handful of critics were given the opportunity to see The Suicide Squad at a recent screening, and the first couple of reactions have now been shared online via a new TV spot.

The promo aired during the half-time show of the Euro 2020 semi-final match between England and Denmark, and included glowing endorsements from BBC Radio 1’s Ali Plumb, who called the movie “a jaw-dropping spectacle,” and Digital Spy, who gave the film 4/5 stars.

Of course, these reactions were selected specifically to hype up the movie during the big game, and may not necessarily be indicative of the general consensus. We'll get a better sense of the wider critical sentiment once the social media embargo lifts, but since official press screenings have not yet been held, we have no idea when that'll be.

The full spot hasn't leaked online yet, but you can check out the reactions below.

"Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Bell Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out — even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today's do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin, and everyone's favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese."
"Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and- destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave...and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them."

We recently found out that the movie was officially rated R for "strong violence and gore, language throughout, some sexual references, drug use and brief graphic nudity."

The Suicide Squad is set to premiere on HBO Max and in theaters on August 6.

@marvel72 - I am a Denmark fan, but I put by bet on England. Luckily that turned out well for my bet.

Nothing beats 1992 Denmark though, when they managed to win even though they didn't qualify in the first place.

Ofcourse a tv spot uses the best reviews, so judging from those review will give a skewed view. Still optimistic about this though, because Gunn those know how to make it and the characters look and be fun

I remember all the praise David Ayer's Suicide Squad received, because of the trailers. That was supposed to lead to a critically acclaimed movie. And of course, it ended up getting trashed. Because of James Gunn's popularity, I definitely expect critics to go softer on this sequel/kinda sorta reboot.

We all know how accurate "early reactions" usually are... 😝

That said, Suicide Squad 1.5 is almost certain to be better than that piece of shit they released in 2016, but that's not saying much.

It'll be fun and wild.

@MosquitoFarmer - I miss MAD TV. I've purchased the DVD box sets that have been released, but they still have some more to go. It's been a while since the last one, so I'm getting the impression we won't get any more.

I remember this was the exact same kind of trailer they dropped just before Suicide Squad got shit on on Rotten Tomatoes.
