Ranking the best Superhero TV series from worst to best

With superheroes and comic books getting more attention than ever, its not surprising that superheroes who, people never thought, will be adapted to live action, came into fruition. But how man actually won people's hearts, how many survived? Lets take a look.

Editorial Opinion

As this a list of Superhero series, and not comic-book series(which I found harder to rank, especially this year), don't expect some of the TV shows . Let me know in the comments which actually showld have been included.

Honerable mentions:

Jessica Jones:

Well, in some sense Jessica Jones showld be actaually ranked, and not here. But, to me, from what the series has potrayed, I cannot see here as a superhero. She's just a person trying to make a living. She doesn't seem to care about any threats, unless its personal.

Constantine:

Same reasons as above. Just a guy, using his knowledge abour magic, and wits, to make a living.

Now, lets move to the actual ranking.

7.Supergirl:

Now, this is a series that I think, I hate. Just watched the first 2 episodes, and hated it. Mellisa Benoist is the only positive I could think of, but even the character she's playing is very shallow. The tone is too cheesy, romance shoved unnecessarily, even villians are one dimensional. What is there to like? Will this show improve?Maybe I am judging too early. They gave fans this:

And people are liking this. So its not like there's no hope, but I am not expecting them to deliver.

6.Arrow:

This show, had an artrocious season 3 in 2015. And just a bearable season 4. My main complains were, many characters were ruined, acting out of characters without any explanation. Oliver is just a watered down hero now. Sure there are some improvements, but they are barely significant. Damien Dakh, is the only character actually shining each episode.

But most importantly, this show has lost any signifance. After the Flash debuted, the only reason I am left for watching this mess of a show is becauseit is a part of a universe. And thats very much irritating and cumbersome. They have to step the game really higher, with Daredevil showing what they can do even with simple story.

But one thing I loved in S3 was that three episodic Brick storyline arc.

I don't know if they were comic-book accurate or not, in his character. But the fact that he made heroes very desperate, made this arc compelling and great. If Arrow wishes to re-gain its past fame, this is the part they look for an inspiration. Hell this is also the way I wish Flsh would take.

5.Agent Carter:

They had the tone right, the story was good, the characters were great, the villians were great. But it wasn't anything exceptional. It was just good. And they never did anything big. But whatever they did with the material, they did it just right and perfectly.

4.Justice League: Gods and Monsters

I am more of an anime fan. But this show has some of the best writing and characterisation for a animated series. It not surprising that DC tends to do some great animated series. I havent completed the season yet, but idea of Justice League being potrayed in Shades of Grey actually got me hook me up. Here's me hoping that it improves.

3.Flash

This show just didn't held anyback. It provided what other show didn't. Pure nerdgasmic fun.  Eobard Thawne was one of the best villians in CW verse. He had just as much complexity as any heroes in other shows.

But they totally dropped the balls on Barry Allen. He just an likable goofball, being dumbest superhero. I find his lack of character depth very disturbing. Add to the fact,  it's a procedural show done wrong, in my opinion. Again as I mentioned above, instead of being villain of he week, make it a seiealised, with each enemy lasting for few episodes. Cliche characters, generic played out storylines are also the points that I fell isn't considered in Flsh season 2.

2.Daredevil:

This show was phenomenol. Obvoisly Wilson Fisk, was the highlight, but this show in my opinion, actually did one more thing other Superhero shows didn't do right:
  • Minor villains were just as threatening as the main villain.
  •  The hero and other 'good' characters were actually written very well
Also add some of the best fight scenes in any Superhero shows. This is the best live action Superhero series till date, which, it looks likde, will be only beaten by its succesor Daredevil season 2.

AND THE BEST OF ALL IS

Gotham deserves to be in this list tbh

@MrPagBrewster:I don't care for comic book accuracy. Grant Gustin is great at potraying whatever he's told to. But Flash's character has been really one dimensional, and generic. One of the reasons One Punch Man is top here especially because it added a a lots of dimensions and layers to the lead, but didn't left other characters behind.

@ManCalledSting: Well Gods and Monsters was advertised in our TV. I searched about it, only to find that it has been a web series. But still, if Daredevil can be mentioned Gods and Legends certainly deserves a mention.

@FrozenJoy: I already explained why I didn't put JJ above. I also don't share your opinion about JJ being the best.

@Robby: Haven't watched Gotham, but from what I have heard it is not a superhero show. Its looks more like a crime drama.

@ManCalledSting

Opinions are often wrong. It is facts that can't be wrong

Surely Agent Carter can't be a superhero show either by your own logic. Just a woman

If Jessica Jones isn't a superhero, neither is Agent Carter.

@ossie85 @Valdez:

Jessica Jones as a character, doesn't scream as a Superhero at all. There is a huge difference between Jones and Carter, in terms of characters.

Jessica Jones turns out to be a , obnoxious, jerk, who doesn't gives a shit about justice. Honestly, the only reason she is saving people from Killgrave is because she a one of the affected. In my opinion, if she knew about Kilgrave way before she was affected, she would have done nothing. Not sure how she was portrayed in comics.

Much different than Agent Carter.

I think Jessica Jones is a superhero (i mean Iron Man has a lot of the same qualities - obnoxious, jerk, etc) and strongly disagree that she doesn't care about justice (the whole point at not killing Kilgrave was to save a girl from jail).

But even if you consider that JJ isn't a gero, she is surely super. As awesome as Peggy Carter is, she is a hero, but not a super hero

@ossie85: By going according to you, Arrow shouldn't be in the list, because he isn't anything 'super'. That's not the case.

Understand this, in my opinion nothing sounds heroic on Jessica Jones as a character and more importantly a it doesn't sound or looks like a 'hero' series, that Agent Carter did.

@Doopie: I recommend you to watch OPM, if you are into animes. You may be surprised how well did they wrote a character OP has hell, which could have been the most boring thing ever, into one of the most compelling characters. Yet the series had had other characters just as great as lead. It's an obvious thing that villains are just plot carriers and the show acknowledged it very well. For once, you just want more of the hero, than more of a villain, which is a rare thing in today's entertainment.

About Arrow, my opinion is that, that 3 episodic arc was one of the best, heck even top 5 episodes of Arrow ever. It was that great. And the irony is the lead character wasn't even present.

And as I said, maybe its too early to judge Supergirl, but with the story they are going, and tone they intend to carry, I just can't see any drastic improvement, that what I feel this show needs

@dragonator
I don't think personality constitutes a superhero. Jessica clearly cared very deeply about freeing innocents from prison, so she does care about justice. But if she isn't a superhero because she is kind of a jerk, then Wolverine, Iron Man, Punisher, and some incarnations of Batman couldn't be considered superheroes either.
dragonator29
dragonator29 - 1/3/2016, 8:11 AM
@Valdez: To be honest I don't think Wolverine, and Punisher are 'heroes'. Some innocents died, when they wanted to accomplish their own goals

While Jessica Jones wasn't as much if a Jerk as thise two guys were, she is still a b**ch easily hated. Wasn't there a episode where she clearly says that she didn't gave a heck about the aliens when they invaded New York, because that would expose her?

Maybe like Iron Man, she does becomes a hero in future. Stark wasn't a hero in the beginning. He gradually become one. And the Jessica Jones we saw in this series, will just becomes a hero in future. But as far as she's been depicted IN THE SERIES, she isn't a hero.

@dragonator: Then how is Justice League: Gods and Monsters a superhero TV Show? Batman sucks people's blood, killing them, and the Justice League plans to take over the Earth in a violent revolt.

Don't be afraid to edit your articles so that they make sense. You're lack of spaces, misspellings, and missing apostrophes make it difficult to interpret.

I'm not defending "Supergirl" necessarily, but don't judge a show by two episodes and one .gif you've found on the internet. Nearly every TV show is weak through its first half season.

I also don't get your #1. And another commenter made a good point, you shouldn't include an animated series.
dragonator29
dragonator29 - 1/4/2016, 5:01 PM
@WakandasSoul: Trying to play gender bias card with me? I am still not getting how are you getting that vibe, as I never intended to. Please, you free to.explain.

@ThunderKat: Sorry to hear that. Being my first time, I am finding lots of mistakes myself, but I am finding myself very busy nowadays. Also English isn't my first language, so.I hope I make sense grammatically.

Also I did say that it is too early to judge Supergirl, but till this point, it is the lowest quality Superhero show.

Again as I said, I am not getting any free time, but I am on an editorial for it. If you have watched OPM, then you may understand.

And, with quality of writing being much better than TV shows some times (I am actually thinking of putting Gods and Monsters above Flash, now that I finished it) I see no reason not to. Animated series and superhero animes deserves just as much recognition, live action series are getting. Next year's list will surely have a place for Killing Joke(isn't that a animated movie though?)
