Two days ago, a rumor started that Chris Columbus was being offered to direct the next Superman movie. Now, Collider has received word from trusted sources that Warner Bros. is NOT pursuing Chris Columbus.

The next Superman movie, tentatively titled "The Man of Steel," is being written by David Goyer (Batman Begins) with Christopher Nolan producing. In the beginning of June, Nolan said that Goyer had finally cracked the script:

“It was the first time I’ve been able to conceive of how you’d address Superman in a modern context. I thought it was a really exciting idea. What you have to remember about Batman and Superman is that what makes them the best superhero characters there are, the most beloved after all this time, is the essence of who they were when they were created, when they were first developed. You can’t move too far away from that.”

Warner Bros. is shooting for a release date sometime between summer 2012 and summer 2013. It would be interesting if it came out summer 2012, since Batman 3 is being released around that time.

It was obvious he wouldn't do it or be offered. Matthew Vaughn should direct and wants to do it right. If First Class is any good, I respect him and think he's right for it. Because Kick-Ass just blew me away.

Maybe if they name every director in Hollywood as being the rumored director, then we can figure out who the real one is through process of elimination as directors one by one deny involvement. Or was this already the plan? Seems to be how casting/director news seems to work.

In 2012, we're going to have Spider-Man, Batman, Wolverine(probably) and the Avengers. It would be cool if they added Superman. All your A-list heroes in one year.

maybe Chris Nolan should get out of the closet and let the world know he is actualy a god by directing both Batman AND Superman at the same time without a versus in between. And release the movies at the same time. What do you guys and gals think? is he actualy a Thor amongst humans? :))

Maybe Alfonso Cuaron should get the job. And if that dosen't work, go with Mike Newll. What, no Mike? There's allways David Yates. :))

Now here is a novel thought. why not get somebody like Ron Howard. The man definatly has experience in directing as well as producer. the man has won 2 oscars for directing. He has done action (backdraft, Ransom) as well as character driven roles (a beautiful mind). I think that for the great Superman movie, we need to think outside the box when choosing a director. Just my thoughts, go ahead let me have it.

The greatest superhero ever bar none and they can't get a f**king movie off the ground. Get f**king Routh back, write a great story, and deliver a powerful enemy. What is the problem WB? Are you guys that stupid that you can't do this. So many good writers, and directors out there who would love to bring this character justice, and still no progress.

Alfonso Cuaron is not bad choice! He made Children of Men! Starring Clive Owen, Michael Caine, Julianne Moore, Charlie Hunnam and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

But i say get David Fincher!
