While casting rumors have begun, according to The Geek Files, Bryan Singer, director of the iconic hero's last movie appearance in Superman Returns, recently shared his "honest" thoughts on Warner Bros. rebooting The Man of Steel. And with certainty of more reboots to come, in his own way, Singer also praises the forthcoming film's director, Zack Snyder.

"At the time I left, it would be more odd than it is now. Because it's been four years, my brain is so occupied. I'm sort of like a tennis ball - I bounced from the X-Men to Superman and back to X-Men so I've been in that world a while, and then I'm doing [Jack the Giant Killer] at Warner Bros, which is where I did Superman, so I'm with the same people."

"So now [the reboot] makes sense. It's a movie I would want to see, I think Zack's so talented and I applaud Warner and Legendary for choosing somebody who's a filmmaker and not necessarily just a shooter. It's Superman, it's gonna be made over and over in one form or another, and I'm sure Zack won't be the last person to touch it either, so in a way it's not in my mind any more. It would have been two and a half years ago."

While True Blood's Joe Manganiello seems to be the most accurate 'Clark Kent' contender, the Chris Nolan-produced Man Of Steel reboot is still steered for a Winter release, apparently focusing on the hero's early days.

Now someone ask him if he's bitter about having his movie trashed on just about every CBM form anywhere. Not to be negative or anything, if it was another superhero Returns would have had a different fate on these forums. But hindsight is 20/20.

Other than X-Men 2, I haven't liked any of the movies he's directed. Valkrie could have been really good, but nope. Just like all of his films, they had potential to be awesome, but he doesn't deliver.

I thought X-men 1 and 2 were great. He made some changes and that worked well in the movie. As far as Superman goes......I'd just as soon put my eyeballs out with a whitehot soldering iron than watch it again.

Incapable of creating your own story, had to lick Donner's balls and do a retarded movie like that, and kill the franchise for years. cant get over this dumb f*ck

No, reboots dont automatically make sense just because of the timeframe, you waste of brain matter. It's because you f*cked up. Magestically.

usual suspects and x2 were his best, other then that he's decent at most. Not a hack, just has weak ideas n makes terrible story choices based on his (sexual oritation?!?) See X1 and X2 and Supes Returns for perfect examples.

@witty, i'm with you all the way. He wrecked superman, but is also one of my favorite directors. its amazing the scope of intelligence that occupies the comment section here at CBM.

SINGER KILLED THE SUPERHERO COSTUME AND THE NEED TO WEAR MASKS

"YOU TOO CAN OWN A WOLVERINE SUIT, NO MASK BECAUSE WE SHOULDN'T HIDE WHO OR WHAT WE ARE, EVEN IF IT MEANS BEING CHASED BY AN ANGRY MOB OR BEING PERSECUTED ON A REGULAR BASIS."

Of course Singer should "praise Snyder". He knows he's a hack and he knows Snyder is going to make him look even stupider. This is just a(futile)pre-emptive strike at trying to save some dignity.

Bryan Singer : "It's Superman, it's gonna be made over and over in one form or another, and I'm sure Zack won't be the last person to touch it either"

Yes Mr. Singer and what would have been best is you not getting a chance to TOUCH the Superman Franchise.
Now Superman has gotten a comic book fan who happens to make a living as a director. As oppose to Bryan Singer whos title in a film could say ass-whole but it says Director. :)

He just doesnt f.ucking get it at all LOL.

Singer is such a douchebag. He made a really shitty Superman film, pissed off legions of fans, nearly re-destroyed the entire franchise and now he's trying to save-face by "praising" Snyder.

And by saying that Superman will be made over and over in one form or another and that Snyder won't be the last to touch it- it seems like he's trying to excuse the fact that his Superman film sucked. Kinda like he's saying- "Snyder took over the Superman franchise from me...but not because I sucked" =(

I really hope this doesn't push Snyder closer to casting Routh. More and more SR crew are speaking on the reboot and also happens to be during the casting period for the film- how ironic -_-

Good for him. Bryan Singer did a good job on Superman Returns and is cool to see how respectful he is to Warner Brothers and Synder. It so a mature filmmaker.

I have liked most of Singer's films and he is one of my favorite filmmakers. Usual Suspects was great and still holds up well. Apt Pupil was really good. X-Men was very good and helped bring comicbook movies into the spotlight, as he was respectful to the source material, while grounding it in realism. X2 was great, and upped the action and the characterization and the drama. Superman Returns is one of my favroite movies as it has such great character moments, score, cinematography, and story. Valkyrie was another good movie.

I don't see why so many people on theses boards don't like Singer. He is still a very good filmmaker and he is one of the founding fathers of the modern superhero movie. He grounded them in realism and still deserves some respect.

@commanderhulk- Singer did a "good" job with Superman Returns???!! 0_0 so you loved Superman Returns and you can't see why we all hate him?

-_-

You have a right to your opinion and I have a right too...a right to point out that SR was a horrible, boring, lackluster film that butchered Superman's ethics by bringing in a bastard child. They wouldn't be rebooting Supes if the last film was "good" as you say.

But again you have a right to your opinion. My opinion- Singer sucks and he's only being "respectful" in order to save-face because he knows he let down the Superman-fanbase.

@MovieTheaterLad- You know what- STFU asshole. I never attacked "commanderhulk" I attacked SINGER and explained my reasoning so [frick] OFF.

And you know what- Superman Returns getting a higher rating than Iron Man 2 doesn't mean it was better. Iron Man 2 was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better- the story wasn't as butchered and it actually showed the hero fighting the villain.

Even the story in SR was butchered- Supes having a bastard child? Supes stalking Lois?

Overall- Iron Man 2 pleased the fanboys much more than Superman Returns could have ever hoped to do and you know what? You may put down the fanboys and call us all- "fantards" but without the FANBOYS you and the rest of the "general audience" wouldn't be getting these movies. So calling us "fantards" is lame of you "MovieTheaterLad"

And again- Iron Man 2 was waaaaaaaaaaay better than Superman Returns...no comparison.
LP4
LP4 - 11/7/2010, 10:07 PM
Furthermore @MovieTheaterLad- if you wanna bring up the rating...ok. Iron Man 2 is getting a sequel- Iron Man 3 obviously.

Superman Returns never got a sequel and is being rebooted.

I think that says it all as proof of which film was really the better.

You can love singer and Superman Returns all you want but when you start calling fanboys "fantards" that pisses me off. It's because of US the studios are making these movies, not the general audience. Superman Returns wasn't made for the fans though...so maybe that's why you loved it so much- because you just don't understand Superman. You're just like Bryan Singer.

MovieTheaterLad has a lot of valid points. These superhero movies are not about the fanboys, that's not where the bread and butter is for the studios and they know that. If they were, then the movies would follow the comics a lot more closely, and a lot of people would walk out of theaters wondering what had just happened LOL

i mean, look at Watchmen. That followed the comic nearly panel for panel and only did so well with the general public. I'm a fan, but I certainly don't mind directors taking some liberties in translation for the big screen to make things work. As long as a movie is good and the essence of the characters are kept intact, that's all that matters. If Nolan's BB and TDK aren't proof of that, then I don't know what is.

Yes, Superman Returns had many flaws, and missed many opportunities. I left the theater wishing Singer had updated the character and not given us Superman 2.5, but in the end it certainly wasn't unwatchable like Dragonball or Air Bender. How can anyone justify those two movies getting sequels?!

@kashchei2003- Dragonball was more watchable than Superman Returns...for me anyway. At least it kept me awake.

@MovieTheaterLad- Putting those emoticons, LOTS of people on CBM use those emoticons.

END.

I have to say, I just pretend Superman Returns does not exist. Tom Welling and Smallville will be my generation's Superman (although I was also a Lois&Clark fan when it was being broadcast in my childhood :P).
