Rebooted Superman 6 May Still Star Brandon Routh

Rebooted Superman 6 May Still Star Brandon Routh

Even though Warner Bros. Pictures has decided on a "do-over" for the Superman franchise--dumping the vision and direction of Bryan Singer, Brandon Routh may still be kept as the famous man of steel in the reboot. DC Comics President Paul Levitz hinted this possibility in an interview with Latino Review.

Sparking the rumor, Levitz noted that Routh has had meetings with the DC Comics lately to discuss about the future "Superman" project. "Last week Brandon Routh has come around the offices in New York and Los Angeles as of late to talk about Superman and what we want to do," so he claimed in the interview. Nevertheless, whether the speculation holds some truth is yet to be proven.

Back in August, Warner Bros. have announced that instead of moving on with a sequel to "Superman Returns", the studio will start the project right from the scratch. It is still unclear though whether the reboot movie will be titled "Superman: The Man of Steel" in place of the sequel, or it will adopt a new one. Additionally, The Independent earlier noted in its article that Kevin Spacey will reprise his role as baddie Lex Luthor in the reboot.

This is kind of old news at this point, I'd seen it elsewhere last week, I've also read stories that Spacey may be back as Lex. These two returning I can live with, though logically a reboot should require and entirely new cast, it just makes more sense that way. More of a fresh start. I hope, however, they do not bring back Kate Bosworth I really found her to be a spineless and bland Lois. Her character needs recasting badly. As for Routh, I liked him. Same for Jimmy. I liked Spacey as Lex, but I want the character of Lex to be rebooted, more the Lex of the comics and none of the Lex of the Donner movies.

I liked Routh as CK, but I didnt like the Lex, Spacey wasn't bad it was just the writing for that Lex. Did Abrams for sure write this script?

I agree w/ nerosday

i like Routh and Spacey, but Lois wasn't Lois at all.

I think that Spacey could also do the Lex from the comics.

He's done a hell of a lot in movies, and this role was perfect for him. He did the best w/ what he had, and hopefully the next movie gives Lex more.

In my opinion, Superman Returns was a pretty good movie from a director's point of view.

Good casting (w/ the exception of lois and in my opinion, the newspaper editor.), good graphics, and good technicians to work w/ and all that jazz. but there wasn't enough excitement and when it did happen, it didn't last very long, and it took forever to get to it.

I'm sorry this is such a crock guys. Here is MY theory: So much money has been SUNK into the many FAILED Superman Projects between 4-Returns (including a hefty pay or play for Nick Cage) that freaking Warner Bros is trying to weasel out of a proper reboot by retaining the cast, thereby not buying out their contracts. This is really a bad idea, because people who are not akin to the "reboot craze" started by Batman Begins, and continued with James Bond, and Hulk, are going to be scratching their heads wandering where Superman's illegitimate son is, and why the events in Returns are non-canon. I mean, even though "Returns" was a sequel, it still took certain liberties with continuity! For starters it IGNORED episodes 3&4 and made subtle changes with the story, for instance, Lois was given amnesia by Clark's Super Kiss at the end of Episode II which should have made her forget about her Super Hay Romp with Big Blue!! Yet she remembered that Super Lovin!! Then The fact that Supes apologizes to the President for not arriving sooner to stop the Kryptonians, and promising to never repeat that mistake, but then he ends up leaving Earth for FIVE FREAKING YEARS!!

At the very least, if they keep Routh, they need to give him a few pointers this go around. For starters, they need to do something about the spit-curl, it just doesn't work...it has not worked in 50 years. Plus, do a real update on the costume. They made a lotta changes with Batman's costume, so I believe they could at least lose the outside undees! And finally, tell the kid to STOP trying to mimick Reeves. He was brilliant and he owned the original Superman movies, but now, Routhe has to make these his own. Oh and they definately have to stop using computers to color the guy's eyes, it looks worse then when those beautiful Latin girls where those dark blue contacts and it throws their whole look off! Oh and one more thing...since they grounded all the concepts of the Nolan Batmanverse into reality or trashed what they could not use from the comics, they need to do the same with Supes and his secret Identity. Case in point, in every other kind of Batman continuity, Batman has an infinite number of vehicles and seems to require assistance from no one aside from little things that Alfred takes care of here and there. But in "The Dark Knight" in order to get to Lau in Hong Kong, Bruce has to rely on Lucius, Alfred, some random "Sky Hook" salesman out west, and Korean Smugglers to catch the baddie. In any other storytelling, he woulda just jetted over on a Batplane and taken Lau with ease, but in this universe, he had to actually work for it. It was BRILLIANT! So what I really want from whoever takes over this FURBAR franchise, is to tweak the method for which Clark maintains his secret identity.

Oh yeah, someone wanted to know why the commencement of the new Supes movie would be contingent upon Nolan signing on for another Batman...I think of two reasons: First they may try to lure him on as a consultant, and second, so that they'll be sure to have a cash cow handy in case the new Big Blue tanks!! Gimme feedback peeps!!

Seriously This I Dumb....The Last Superman Was Horrible......i didn't like spacey being lex...i Didn't like routh as clark or superman.....i didn't like kate as lois.....i think if they took the people from smallville things would be better because if you look at comics and routh is not built like superman but the guy from smallville is close to a superman type body that routh........either way i hate superman and don't really care if they do another movie

BOOOOOOO to Routh that guy sucks Tom Welling should be the new Superman and a recast for Lois I do like Ericka Durance but a the whole Smallville cast might be abit much and hard to buy as a new movie.

I thought Brandon Routh was decent in superman returns as they obviously wanted a Reeves clone to make it loosely canon to the donner flicks and that worked as far as they wanted but if we are rebooting we need to leave the baggage behind and cast a bigger superman ala the comics, tom wellings a better choice but again we dont need the smallville baggage, new supes, new lois, new luthor, new primary villain, new franchise....a half-hearted reboot would be like the hulk whereas they should reboot like with batman (not style-wise in-terms of darkness just new direction, new canon, new franchise)

The only thing wrong with Superman Returns was the script. Bad idea to give him a kid. Routh is a really good Superman. And Fraiser doing Superman just doesn't seem right.

Yes! Recast LOIS! She was the weak link in the movie! Keep Routh! But change Lois and maybe get some writers that will go for the same qualities that the writers did with Spiderman 2. PARKER POSEY ROCKED!

I like the idea of having Tom Welling in on the reboot. I hated the illegimate child take on the last movie. They should try rebooting altogether. Like they did in Batman begins. They explained alot of things. Why is it that an accounting nerd from Wayne enterprise can figure out how batman is but the woman that was F*&King superman can't figure out that him and clark kent are one in the same. I've always hated how DC makes their universe into a bunch of idiots. Its like watching that movie "Idiotcracy".
Hey Clark how are you doing. (Clarks glasses come off) SUPERMAN!! What are you doing in Clarks clothes.

You have to admit it is pretty silly. I mean at least spider-man has his entire body covered. I would joke with my friends about the last movie. Sayin, I would loved it if Lois the woman that beared Superman's child who can't figure out that Clark is Superman, would be in a hurry and accidently would go into the mens room instead of the womans and Clark would be at the urinal. She would see his manhood and suddenly yell "SUPERMAN!!"

Good!! Great!! IMO they should keep Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey.
Also, they should have METALLO as the villain too. They could make it where Luthor is sick of being 'thwarted' by Superman so he funds the 'Metallo project'. (kind of like in the animated series i suppose...but they could go 'darker'..even though i think a 'darker' Superman is kind of an oxymoron).

Hi guys. If they do indeed reboot Superman I hope they finally get the "S" of his costume right. Brandon Routh did a good job playing Superman but it was abvious that he was trying too hard to mimic Christopher Reeve's take on the character (I still think Chris Reeve is the Best Superman). Also, some of the lines used in "Returns" were copied form the first movie (....flying is still the safest means of travel... clark? your boyfirend?---no, just some guy i work with.... what did my father say to me before he died?--Get Out!....etc) I have to agree with the idea of letting Tom Welling play the lead role. In a way, when Chris Reeve appeared in the "Rosseta" episode of Smallville: Season 2 it seemed as if "The Torch had been passed." Kevin Spacey did a wonderful take on Lex Luthor but I think Michael Rosenbaum can do better. As to who will play Lois... I have three suggestions--Rachael Leigh Cook, Camille Belle, or Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The idea of not introducing the main villain for the first movie used in Batman Begins was brilliant! So I would suggest that in the reboot Superman go up against Brainiac or Darkseid, or maybe even the Phantom Zone Villains

The biggest mistake in Superman Returns are:

1) It has less action.
2) Many elements were a just retelling of Superman 1.
Audience want something new
3) Superman having a son was all over the trailers. It was suppose to be the "big thing" ! It was like Darth Vader being Luke's father. Or Spock dying on Star Trek II.

In fact contrary to popular thinking Superman having a son would have made Superman Return a great sequel. It pushed the story forward. It was not a comic book Superman. Or a TV Superman. It is a cinematic Superman.

So many would ask what do you do with Superman son in the next sequel? Have the superchild killed by Superman's enemies. Then Superman becomes rogue and begin to questions his convictions! That's your darkside! Don't worry about the kid he'll be back as Superboy in the next sequel. Luthor will revive him and use him to fight his own father! Now that's a story for Superman! You see it pushed the story forward. Not like on cartoons or comics where they go around in circles.

Oops! Did I spill the beans. Hello Warner Bros ...

As for the cast, Kate Bosworth was OK. After-all Sups left her for no reason. For 5 freakin years. Just retool the script in the next sequel so we can have ol' loveable Lois Lane. And as for the super amnesia kiss. There is no amnesia. She was in denial the whole thing! Trying forget and move on.

If anyone needs to be replaced its Frank Langella. Frank is a great actor. But he's just too tall and too serious. Perry White is short, buttoned nosed, loud and funny. It is him and Jimmy that should provide the laughs. Plus in order for Clark/Sups to stand out among the cast he should be the tallest. I recommend Nathan Lane he looks like Jackie Cooper. See the movie Mouse Hunt.

With regards to Tom Welling I think he IS already Superman. That is, they should stop calling the freakin' series "Smallville" and intead be mature enough to retitle it as "Metropolis". The series and Welling has already very established as unique variation of the Superman mythos-- a more realistic version. No campy costumes!

Superman Returns was a predictable chunk of crap that Nick Fury could've seen coming with his one good eye. I hated Lois, she was weak and pointless, and the new "grow your own continent, just add water" kryptonite was corny, and superman having a kid was insulting. Routh and Spacey were okay but does Lex need to be in every damn movie? What about Doomsday or a General Zod reboot? And for the record Smallvill takes DC continuity and pisses all over it.

I think that they did a good job with Superman Returns, Although it did lack some action. but it is time to move on and do something better in the style of iron man, action and story wise of course.
bring in some cool stuff. i agree with drew that a doomsday saga would be way cool. and even though it isn't likely, i am hoping for a cool trilogy of justice league movies that don't end crappy like x-men.

Ok there has been a few good commits here but most and sorry to say all was just B.S... Yes there were definite issues with superman returns. I think DurkinKnight nailed a bunch of them on the head like following the story lines. I hate when a film comes out that just does not make since to the other films.

The action on this one just took to long get to it and kind of week. As with lex Spacey was a perfect fit but I Like to see superman have some real villains that give him a beating.

That being said superman returns was an ok film just had some flaws. I realize many people did not like the idea of a superman kid. I think it was brilliant. The right script from here we can see a very good film there is just so many directions that can be taken. kalabog above gave us one. So give the kid a break he can be evil and whoop on his dads butt, Superman’s new supper villain. Die like mentioned before. Turn superman into some kind of killing revengeful parent. I mean there are just so many things that can be done. So I hope the do a better job next time and defiantly keep the kid in some kind of fashion for the next one. It could lead to a fantastic film.

Terrible... Terrible..
I believe WB and Singer both thought that the idea of a new superman movie would just have viewers salivating and that it would be the biggest film of the decade. THEY WERE WRONG!!

The problems with this movie are not large in stature but they are deep.

The superkid.. bad idea.. goes against the grains of what superman represents! I didn't want to see it and I still reather believe it didtn't happen that might be fine for a B-list hero but not Superman..

Lex Luthor.. He is the easiest villain to use.. no CGI and he's a classic BUT he's been run into the ground. Spacey wasn't bad but I'd rather not have him featured prominently in any subsequent sequels..

Lois Lane.. Mis-cast enough said..

The Kryptonite.. PLEASE LET IT GO!! Find another way to hurt or hinder him.. how much freakin Kryptonite is availbale on Earth anyway?? Geeesh!!

Brandon Routh.. Not bad could be better unless you can find someone who looks more like Reeve and can act better keep him and juice the script!

The Story.. I appreciate Singer picking up where Donner left off but start your own trilogy put your own stamp on it. It's unfortunate Donner got canned by the producers before he could finish Superman II but hey what's done is done.. There are plenty of good Superman stories to borrow material from find it and come correct..

Brandon Roth did a good job as Superman, , i think it help cause he actually looked like Christopher Reeves. But i believe that he is not the right person for the direction they want the movie to go.
After Batmans sucess and the darker tpe of Super hero movie, , , I am wanting to see Smallvilles Tom Welling to be the man of steal. I RECENTLY HEARD THAT TOM WELLING WOULD BE SUPERMAN IN THE JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE. If this is true i do not know. But he seems like the perfect person for the role. He has been doing Smallville since day one, so he should be familiar with Supermans background and history. The Smallville show has actually set it up nicely to spin off into the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie.

SMALLVILLES TOM WELLING FOR SUPERMAN!!!!!!!

nev2009 - 2/8/2009, 10:06 PM
Ok so i made an account just for this because it is so important to me. WHY HAVE ANYONE ELSE AS SUPERMAN WHEN TOM WELLING IS IN SMALLVILLE?! Ok here's how i see it. he has busted his butt for smallville to give everyone an inside perspective of Supermans life, starting when he was young. TOM has grown up with his character, starting 8 years ago when he was a freshman in highschool to now where he is in the daily planet working with Lois Lane, Still loving Lana, while still being best friends with Chloe Sullavin. Im sorry but i dont know about anyone else, but if there is a Superman Movie and if Tom Welling isnt superman i wont watch it. its as simple as that. He has more than earned his spot to be apart of superman on the big screen. Christopher Reeve belived in him, Smallville fanatics belives in him, and people who may decide to make a Superman movie should belive in him too. to add on this note the whole cast should join in on a movie. Its only right to not mislead the audience with Smallville and just replace everyone with new people. Everyone on smallville has more than earned there right to be apart of such a great movie, now the question is timing. When should a superman movie come out well i leave that to you guys its your job but i say smallville cast goes to the big screen, Not only will you guys save your selves and make lots of money. you guys will keep the audiences from smallville and i am definitely one of them. Smallville cast rocks!
