Russell Crowe On What He Hopes To Inspire With His Portrayal Of Jor-El In MAN OF STEEL

While chatting about Les Miserables Russell Crowe talked a little bit about what he hopes to inspire in a younger audience when he plays Superman's birth father Jor-El in the upcoming Zack Snyder movie Man Of Steel.

Russell Crowe has been really busy lately, but took some time out of his work schedule to promote his latest film Les Miserables. While doing his press rounds for the film, MTV asked him about his upcoming role as Jor-El in Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel. While remaining a little coy on the subject, Crowe said that he hopes to teach people who watch the movie that the bravest thing you can do is, love.

"Well now you're putting me on the spot, and I would be the only person in the world to talk about it if I talked about it, wouldn't I? Thanks very much for that noose around my neck. How can I say this with out getting too specific? It afforded me a wonderful job to put specific thing in the minds of 14 year old boys, and that is the bravest thing that you can do, the most important thing you can do, is love."

Based on what we have seen in the teaser trailer, and the description of the comic con footage, Jor-El will have a large role in Man Of Steel. Exactly how large will remain a mystery most likely up until the movie is released next June. However, the next trailer for the movie is due out with the theatrical release of The Hobbit, and could possibly find its way online before then. For the latest on Man Of Steel keep it right here on CBM.

Question: 'Marlin Brando holds a Guiness Book of World's Records record for big feet... is your interpretation of the character a man of action as much as words?'

Crowe: '....How can I say this without getting too specific..........................................................................................................................It afforded me that wonderful opportunity to put a specific thing in the minds of 14 year old boys...............And that is the bravest thing you can do, the most important thing you can do, is love."

Jor-El: What if a child becomes something other than what society intended?... What if a child is destined for something greater?

You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you. They will stumble. They will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders

He's basically running around teling people that a great cataclysm is coming and the world is going to end and he builds a ship in order to preserve a sample of planetary life.

@fettastic, he means you love someone so much, you're willing to give up your life so that persona has chance at living.

It's the kind of love a mother has when she learns her child has been killed in war. She'd do anything to switch places so her child can go on living.
The kind of love a father of a dying world has for his only surviving son.

Go hug your mom and dad, you bastard.

What all super heroes are suppose to do inspire people to do good but we only care about the action scenes.

@ unkownfacts, that's just you. A movie with no heart is only a piece of machine for entertainment. Like marvel's movies. A real good movie needs a heart.

Jollem@ Thanks.
toco89@ What was that avatar comment about, anyway? It's perplexed me. You mean it's a composite of anarchaic icons and as such Greengo is a trouble causer and risque jokes translates as trouble? That's really the best guess I got. I'm not berating you I'm just really, really curious.
And get a [frick]ing avatar. That is me berating you, right there.

Eh, well, they tried. Good attempt MTV films.

I think Josh w/MTV is the one Hollywood interviewer I've seen that the actors consistently appear the most comfortable with.

So, the target audience for this Superman movie is 14 and male. Okay. Fair enough, I suppose.

@acureds Greengo

Yeah, you're close. I wasnt insulting you by the way greengo, those kind of jokes just have no place here, or anywhere else really. Not trying to single you out, its common enough I guess. And the avatar thing was more of a joke than anything, I took notice of it, it's an interesting pic.
