Wes Louie is a professional storyboard and concept artist, who has worked on television shows ("Believe"), video games ("Halo 4") and films ("Thor"). In June, Wes posted two unused Man of Steel logos (view below), along with this message:

"From three years ago. Another studio won the bid, but the approach was very similar. I don't recall having the finalized version of the logo from WB, so this is how the logo looked at that point in time."

Do you prefer the one Warner Bros. went with or one of these two alternate versions?

Not Bad, but i prefer what we got. Hell, its really hard to mess up something as simple as supermans logo. Unless you work for tim burton.

Don't think they're lazy at all. But I'm happy with the final design.

Not gritty enough, maybe some blood, fog and rain might fix this.

Yeah...why exactly is the movie even called "Man of Steel" in the first place? Haha no one ever says that nickname in the movie, it doesn't factor into any of the themes. They could've substituted any other nickname in its place and it wouldn't have changed a thing.

At least "The Dark Knight" ended the movie with that nickname. And it fit in perfectly with the multiple themes going on. And it worked tonally as well. Was there any reason to call it "Man of Steel" other than wanting to avoid using the word "Superman"?

I think I'm overthinking this.

@SauronsBANE

Because he doesnt really become Superman until the end. Until then hes just the man of steel. And it sounds cool and the nicknmae has been around for awhile

@FordEl If I had to bet, I think the "It sounds cool" reason was the deciding factor in it haha

Man of Steel is another way of saying Reckless Brute, needless to say Man of Steel is a better tittle even though Reckless Brute fits better.

Well, it does sound cool. And the last couple of times they had Superman in the title of a Superman movie it didn't work out that well :P.

It's kind of fitting I guess. When I think of Superman, my mind jumps back to the classic Reeve version. When I think of Man of Steel I think of Cavill and a modernized Superman.

@KingTroll don't worry, his "recklessness" will be paid for in DOJ

Haha very true MrBlackjack. I guess they also wanted to make sure they wouldn't be associated with Superman Returns and the Reeve films.

BvS is about humans putting Superman on trial for his crimes on the previews movie, but then it's proven that Clark is mentally challenged (hides identity by putting on glasses) and didn't know better so they build him a giant ass statue.

I personally think Superman Returns greatest weakness was its pacing. It had some very core elements of Superman down pat, but on the whole it was too boring for myself and dragged on a bit. Creating a new continuity might have helped as well.

I thought Singer nailed down the pain and suffering aspect of Superman nicely in Returns, I must say. With Man of Steel it felt like Goyer was on that same track and was so close to nailing it down as well, but then he took a weird left turn and diminished what was building up.

@Klone

What's that? You loved Man of Steel? You think Man of Steel isn't just the best Superman film to date, but it's also the greatest superhero film ever made? Wow....I don't know what to say. I liked it too....but damn.

I didn't care for the son plot line either, especially given the fact that he would have been killed off in a sequel too.
