Smallville is one of the most polarizing topics on Comicbookmovie.com, you either love it or you hate it. There rarely ever seems to be an in between, but when the shows announced that this, it's tenth season, would be it's last, that Clark would finally get into the iconic suit and take flight and that Darkseid was the big bad of the season, many fans were excited to see this journey come to an end.
I was one of the people who was excited to have Smallville wrap things up and finally produce the Superman, most of us, have come to know and love. I hadn't watched this show in over six seasons due to the 'No Tights, No Flights rule and I was advised to stay away from catching up because I hadn't missed much. Apparently, since my hiatus from the show, it had gone downhill and the fan-base had nearly eroded and moved on. The show had become a shell of it's former self and had alienated many with the anti-climatic Clark vs. Doomsday fight. I was told not to expect anything when it comes to Darkseid, Superman or flight.
Still, I watched the final season. I was impressed with the Homecoming episode and was, once again, excited to see Smallville. Since that episode, the season has been gradually dull and tasteless. The once impending threat of Darkseid was all but forgotten, the Lex clone story was abandoned and turned into Conner--Conner Kent will not make another appearance in Smallville. What was the point?--and Welling has yet to take flight or touch the suit.
On a recent interview with Smallville producer Kelly Sounders, we received information on the highly anticipated series finale which is set to air on May 13, 2011. Ms. Sounders, to most, seemed to hint that Darkseid would not take a physical form and that we may only see Superman in the final seconds of the series. The boards went wild, why would they tease us with Darkseid and the suit if we weren't going to be gifted with these two gods going punch for punch at one another? This season had been a disappointment, this series had been a disappointment. The excitement was gone, the resentment had set in.
Upon Smallville's return from it's break, we were presented with screenshots of their upcoming episodes, most noticeably, their upcoming Prophecy episode and there it was again. Another Smallville tease, the iconic suit was in display and it seems like it will be the star of that episode. Why show the suit if we're not going to see it in the finale? Just leave it in the fortress and have Jor-El award it to Welling after he beats up the Darkseid host and then give us the last second shot of Superman, right? That's what I thought, but I was wrong. If the rumors I've been hearing are true, Tom Welling will be awarded the suit in the Prophecy episode. How do I know this? Well, for one thing, it's a rumor, so I don't knwo. But we are also provided with concrete evidence of this. In one of the picture posted by Ed Gross, we see Mr. Welling, as one person eloquently placed it, refusing to look at the suit that had given him a job and supported his family the past ten years...
I was furious, but I apologize right now if what I have been told is true. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is it. Notice the crystal in Welling's hand? It's the key to what we've been waiting for for ten year, allegedly, he has finally earned the suit. I don't know if this means Superman will be in the entire two-hour finale or not, but it suggest that maybe we won't have to wait for a last few seconds shot.
I've said on multiple occasions that if Smallville shows us a finale with Superman...
If not, I'll
Let's all hope the series goes out with a Super-bang! Let's hope that we get Superman in the entire two hour episode, let's hope the finale is so good that it impresses Grif and Marvel72. =D
Let's hope for one last, unbelievably amazing memory from Smallville.
