First Look At DC's Next Animated Film SUPERMAN: UNBOUND

Wasting no time in getting us our first look at the next animated film, DC has released a behind the scenes look at Superman: Unbound.

The second of DC's three animated films that will be released this year is Superman: Unbound. The film is based of Geoff Johns Superman story arc titled Brainiac. DC has released a new behind the scenes video for the movie that gives us our first looks at characters, story boards, as well as cast and crew interviews. Check out the video below. Be warned the audio on the video isn't that great.

The movie will finally see Matt Bomer get his chance to play Superman. Joining Bomer is Stana Katic as Lois Lane, Molly Quinn as Supergirl, and John Noble as Brainiac. The release date for the film is unknown at this time, but be on the look out for it later this year.

Nice, love the story arc. And what's with the cast!? Bomer, Katic, and Quinn are a few of my favorite TV actors...wow, I can't wait for this. Too bad the designs don't really capture Gary Frank's style, but I'll be actually surprised if they do. (He's simply one of a kind.)

the animation does not do justice to Gary Franks art which is a [frick]ing shame

Meh. The story was OK but making Brainiac responsible for the dfestruction of Krypton was, like most of Johns' writing in my opinion, forced and superficial. I always liked the android version better anyway, lol

Nice. Hopefully Superman won't get his butt whooped this time like in every other cartoon he's in

Good for Bomer. Disappointed that they didn't try and mimic the artwork, even though I understand why they didn't. Frank's Superman looks like Reeve, and I would've loved to have seen that represented here. Oh well.

I'm not a huge fan of the comic story but I will watch this anyway. I'm a huge fan of the DC animated films!

Excited to see this movie, but would like to see more characters done. The Flash needs an animated movie manhunter, ICON, Black Canary, Black Lighting. villans like Black Racer one of the New Gods, Captain Comet , and Fire storm. my personal opinion DC needs to push more superhero teams with not so known characters cause there are more interesting ones than batman and more powerful ones than superman.

Matt Bomer as Superman?! Yes! I'm confident that Cavill will do well, but Bomer was always my top pick for the reboot.

John Noble as Brainiac ....Perfect!

Bruce Timm said that the reason they keep doing Superman and Batman movies is because those are the only ones that sell.

I really liked Wonder Woman, it is still one of my favorite DC animated flicks. But DC didn't appreciate the box office on that one.

What I want to see is: another Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and something way out in left field like Dr. Fate or The Demon.

C'mon DC, get out of your comfort box and do something amazing!

@DrFate I agree! This looks great & all but DC focus on Teen Titans, The JSA, Flash, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter. The list goes on & I don't need to tell everyone how many great & unused characters DC has in their arsenal.

Batman & Superman are great & are big sellers but seriously, this is a huge market that people will support. Why are you so afraid of losing money? I understand to attract fans you start out with Batman & Superman but once you have them give them something they haven't seen before. Don't just stick with what works. Go outside the box & give everyone a glimpse of another part of the vast DCU that they've never seen before.

That was one of the few redesigns (preDCnU) that I dug. Brainiac (the Starro is controlled by a humanoid character sucked tho).

Glad we don't get a Clark as Reeve design here. Should be fun.

SO EXCITED FOR THIS ADAPTATION!!! This is one of my favorite comics and Im so glad they're making it a movie!

@ ManOfSuperguy:
I have to agree with Spidey, for the entire run of Justice League before JLU (Unlimited), they made superman get his ass handed to him every time he fought. If you watch the special features they realized that they were making superman a whimp and caught it in the second season. Then they had him fight Darkseid.

I"m curious as to how and why they pick some projects over others. I know money is a factor, which is why Batman and Superman tend to get made the most. I'm hoping tat one day some of the older stories get some attention. I would really like to see a Crisis on Infinite Earths done as a two part movie. I also think Morrison's Rock of Ages story from JLA would be cool too. I'd also say Sinestro Corps war, but I have a feeling they'll bebuilding to that sooner than later in the GL cartoon, provided Cartoon Network doesn't cancel it first.

A lot of comments about how they only do batman and superman. Well it's up to the consumer not Timm and the gang. When they do experiment with other characters, even if you don't like the character, those are the ones you need to buy.
It's a business and WB makes high profits with bats and supes. If the rest sold well, then they would make more.
And anyone who says " see how they treat other characters its obvious they only care about batman" is an idiot. The Wonder Woman movie is still one of the best dc animated movies. It just didn't sell well, neither did gl first flight. The only reason they attempted gl emerald nights was to have something coincide with the release of the la movie.
Money decides everything

Hasn't been one of these I haven't liked yet, and this was a great story so I can't wait to see it animated. The art style is okay, kinda wish they had gone with the same style as "Superman/Shazam" as that is gloser to Gary Frank's style. Either way I'm in!

I absolutely love the detailed artwork in the comic but I hate the animation style they chose for it with a passion!

DC needs to choose one animation style and stick to it! The animation from JL:Doom was pretty great! The animation here looks so low budget and just eww... -_-

I'll watch it for the story regardless tho.

A lot of users go to the time and trouble to post videos in the comment sections which only improves the site. Thank you!! But I'm not watching the same god damn commercial over and over and over! Knock it the EFF off CBM! Times can't be that hard!!!

Yeah me too. I love the Flash. Well, DC in general.

I've been waiting on a Flash Movie since I saw Wonder Woman and Public Enemies.

They need to showcase EVERYONE.

I think DC/Warner are missing a perfect opportunity to transition the traditionist fans of Superman to the new 52 style costume that we'll see, for the most part, in the upcoming Man of Steel movie. The animation and costume design for Superman in DOOM was a perfect chance to show the new costume sans the briefs. I think it would've work nicely with the rest of the designs for that feature. It would be nice to see the new 52 costume in motion and animated before we see it on the big screen, so we can get used to the idea outside of a 2D comic book. Why they did the overhaul last year on the characters and still turn out features running with the old designs and stories is strange to me...
