Superman: The Animated Series was released on Blu-ray for the first time earlier this week, and we caught up with actor Tim Daly to discuss his tenure as the Man of Steel. The definitive Superman for many fans, the actor would go on to lend his voice to Kal-El several times after the show ended, including in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and Justice League: Doom.
The latter was released in 2012, and Daly, unfortunately, hasn't been given the opportunity to play Superman since. However, the actor told us that he's keen to return to the recording booth as Clark Kent. "I’d like to still be doing it," he admitted. "I think I would be better as Superman now than back when I was doing it because my voice has gotten richer and I think I understand Superman better."
"I’m hoping desperately that I can return as the character," Daly continued, sharing his hopes to pull Superman away from the darker places the character has gone in recent years (such as what we've seen in the DCEU). "What I love about Superman and one of the reasons I hope he makes a resurgence is that he is or has been or should be all good. He has some childhood trauma when he lost his parents, but he’s not seeking revenge. He’s not a dark, vengeful, vindictive character. He’s all goodness. He just wants to help people and right wrongs. He wants to help us poor human beings get our act together and I certainly think at this moment in time, we could use that more than ever."
So, what can be done to bring Daly back to the role of Superman? Well, it may be up to you, the fans. "Hopefully, whoever the fans are who read your article will put some pressure on Warner Bros. and say, ‘Hey, we want Tim Daly back to do some of this stuff.’ I’ll come back in a heartbeat."
Daly was an incredible Superman and his hopes to take the character back to his roots matches what the vast majority of people want to see from the Man of Steel. We've endured a lot of darkness in recent years, and if you're keen to see what Superman could be, then we'd recommend this show!
