TEEN TITANS GO! TO THE MOVIES Box Office Tracking Suggests The Animated Film Will Be A Success

DC's first theatrical outing of 2018 comes in the form of Teen Titans GO! To The Movies. Could the big-screen take on the popular cartoon series be the animated sleeper hit of the summer? Check it out...

In a year filled with superhero fare, it seems as though the hype around Teen Titans Go! to the Movies has been buried under the likes of Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2 - but that doesn't mean the film won't be a hit.
Based on the popular television show on Cartoon Network, which was already a light-hearted reboot to the original before it, most fans are still on the fence about the animated feature. However, f
ollowing the positive reactions out of a VidCon fan screening last week, official industry tracking has been released for the adaptation and the film is expected to rake in around 14 million to 19 million over the course of its opening weekend.

Though that may sound small compared to 2018's other superhero offerings, keep in mind that this is a 2D animated film. Most adaptations like this have a production budget of around the mid 20 Million range. Anything above a 2x multiplier past its debut weekend would more than likely inch the film towards profitability.

I don't buy the idea that the success of this film will lead to a revival of the original series. Would DC really want 3 Teen Titans shows on the air at once? 1 dark and realistic one and 2 light and funny ones?

@Nightwing1015 - I honestly don't even think WB/DC knows what they want aside from profit. Hence why we are still scheduled to get 3 Harley centric films.

@Nightwing1015 - Yes this show is geared towards little kids.....I am not sure what is wrong with that?

That being said DC has made it clear they have separate universes, nothing is going to change their mind. I mean considering all their live action television shows across FOX, CW, and SYFY is worth 1 Billion to WB.

@Nightwing1015 - It would be fine, you get
Young Justice: For older kids and adults
Teen Titans Go: Just for little kids.
the original Teen Titans is the perfect middle ground, it has dark, serious stories, but is willing to get silly once in a while

@JoeMomma29 - I don't think there's anything wrong with a show geared towards kids. I'm just saying I'm surprised DC is ok having 3 different versions of the Titans on air at once considering they usually try and avoid character duplication.

@Nightwing1015 - Yeah, I don't buy into what they're selling either. It just comes as a scam, or false marketing to me. But we'll see if they're liars or not if the film does well. I'm hoping that they'll give us a continuation of the original Teen Titans show, but again, it's a "wait, and see" approach, and honestly? I HATE waiting.

@Nightwing1015 - totally agree, it does feel like DC is "over-saturating" the teen titans. But as others mentioned the format (live action, cartoon, animated film, etc.) is different enough that people can have variety. Biggest problem I see is the plot because if all of them try try to cover the same arc it becomes repetitive.

For example they all should not cover the Judas Contract arc because it's been done already.

I've never understood why DC didn't pursue a live-action Titans movie for the 'DCEU'.

It would make perfect sense. I guess the live-action show will have to do :/

@ThePott - With how polarizing their films are? I rather not. I'm fine with sticking to animation when it comes to their content. I'm also finding myself enjoying their live-action shows more than the films.

@Beerus - Well obviously with the caveat that they get it right, I'm not saying I have faith in them to nail it but there's so much going for a Titans film that would make it a slam dunk.

I think a lot of the DC shows are fine but they quickly run their course, given up on most of the CW stuff at this point personally. If the Titans is going for a darker, different tone maybe it can stand out.

well, its 2d animation, so probably it was really cheap to make
it would make his money back for sure
Beerus
Beerus - 7/9/2018, 7:27 PM
@NicolausCopernicus - I might be ignorant here, but wouldn't 3D animation be cheaper than 2D? I'm just thinking this because why else would we have so many 3D animated films/shows compared to back in the day? Hell, I could get Blender (or some other 3D modeling/animating software) for cheap. I mean, just look at those GMOD films uploaded to YouTube nowadays.

I’m not a fan of the show much, but I may end up seeing this during a $5 showing, could be a Lego Batman Movie-like film comedy wise

Eh.
Honestly, I'm indifferent either way.
Not for me and I doubt that I'll get around to seeing it in theaters, but if it succeeds, then good for it.
I'm just shocked that there's a 2D animated film in theaters in 2018.
Beerus
Beerus - 7/9/2018, 7:29 PM
@kRAVENklaw - Same, I do miss having 2D animated films being in theaters. I wish we could go back to the times where we could have huge Disney, WB, or even 3rd party studios putting out some quality animated flicks. Maybe one day the medium would have a resurgence? It would be cool seeing Warner Brother's pushing the charge, and Disney playing catch up for once.

I preferred the DC Nation Shorts version.

dracula

@Toecutter - Yeah the shorts are actually funny, and poke fun at the original series, without being insulting to the older fans. Its what the show should have been

@dracula - The animation was a lot nicer looking too.

If it leads to a sixth season of the original show, then please all you people with kids, take them to see this crap
Beerus
Beerus - 7/9/2018, 7:33 PM
@dracula - Ha! That's how I feel when it comes to this film. I'm not a fan of the Teen Titans Go series, and have no desire to see the film. But just like you, there is a part of me hoping that they aren't liars, and that if the film does well, that we'll actually see a season six of the original show. I'll be disappointed if they are 'scamming' us though with false hopes of continuing of the original Teen Titan show.
brodie999
brodie999 - 7/9/2018, 8:13 PM
@dracula - OMG! I sure hope so!! Because if the movie is a box-office success, this might lead to the original Teen Titans show getting more seasons. It'd be the third superhero show to get the revival treatment after Lucifer and Young Justice.

Anyone thinking this movie being a success will lead to the revival of the old Teen Titan series is fooling themselves.

GO is currently on it's 5th season right now. Meaning that tweet could, and likely does, refer to GO getting a sixth season if the movie does well rather then a 6th season to the original series.

Wow people give Marvel fans crap but wow I'm just reading allot of bitching & complaining on this DC comment section.

DC finally makes something fun for the fans that I can take my son too and I will definitely go see it in theaters when it comes out and taking the wife whether she like it or not.
