Cowabunga dudes! Chyaa, that's what I said after finding out that Nickelodeon bought the complete rights to everyone's favorite heroes in a half shell the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Plans to release a live action film were made public earlier this year. Nickelodeon will go through with those plans. The new news here is that Nickelodeon is also pushing forward a CGI animated TV series. Sweet. Hopefully the new show will take after the original cartoon show and then wa la. It will be a hit.

We will see both TMNT projects hit theaters and TV sets in 2012. Next question would be: Are you excited to see the Turtles eat REAL pizza again in a live action feature? Or would you prefer the turtles to stay animated?

Sweet, although I hope the show is more like the darker 2000's rebboot than the original cartoon. Don't get me wrong I loved the original as a kid, but when I grew up a little and read eastman and laird's original run my love of the old cartoon diminished. And upon viewing later into adulthood it didn't hold anything but nostalgia for the sake of repeat viewings. The second cartoon series though, now that as something for everyone: it has a darker tone and more closely follows the original plotlines of the comics, and it was funny.
As for cgi over live action, both have their strong points. For instance the fight scenes in TMNT were much bigger and had alot more action than the live action movies ever had just because you an do more in the animated medium. Also, the facial expressions in the cg cartoon were much more vivid, however after seeing Where the Wild things are and how good the face replacement looked I don't think that this would be a problem in a new live action movie. Live action has a presence to it, the mood is stronger, it feels real. And on top of that there is the issue of ratings; an animated tmnt movie will be expected to be more kid friendly where as with a live action movie parents are more likely to remember how violent Raph was and hw bad his language was in the original so you wouldn't have to lower the rating on a live action picture.

With that said I think the next should be live action, but it should not exclude the last movie continuity wise. The cartoon was a direct sequel to the live action movies so the same respect should be payed to the cartoon movie, plus it set up the return of the shredder and I think we all want to see that.

lee...what is raph going to leo? Are they fighting mommy?

Guardian @ Yeah probably lol!

As for Sequel or Reboot, i'll go reboot, as long as its not a remake, dont wanna go through an origin story again! : D

But if so, then its gotta be sequel, either way its gotta strive to be as good as the first one, 2 & 3 were'nt um very good.

I didn't mind all the different versions, but I would like to see more of the original come back to tv. I just hope they pick up the story line from the Movie.

thwhtGuardian: Why i think a reboot is a must, is because the old films are to old, it would be like S Returns if they did a Sequel, to big of a gap to relate the stories!

Same goes for Gostbusters 3!

Nothing like a good Reboot imo! ;)

I disagree, suprman returns failed not because of the lapse in time but because i was poorly written.

The TMNT cartoon movie did a good job of rehashing the origin in the first 30 seconds a similar thing could b easily done in the new movie. The cartoon was a direct sequel and it did very well so it disproves the to much time argument.
If they reboot it then it would be an origin story... that's what a reboot is, and the first movie was so close to the comic plot line a reboot would in fact just be a remake. It's not like batman or superman where there are different takes on the origin, there is only one telling of the turtles genesis so a reboot would just rehash the original movie.
All you have to do is pick up where the cartoon left off, it's not an illogical step.

Really old. I think he was near his thirties when the first one came out.

I loved the original live action movies. They really entertained me as a kid and even now. cgi just can't compare.

yeh, I think he's a bit long in the tooth to play casey jones. He was good in gattica too. What about Chris evans? I think he did a great job voicing Casey in TMNT, the same goes for sarah michel geller for april.

The only thing is a misspelling in your article. It's not "Wa la" it's "viola." It's Italian.

WTF? A new animated Turtles series already? They only just cancelled the Turtles series from 2003 and it was really good (well except for the Fast Forward season). The new CGI series will suck unless its a continuation of the 2003-2008 series. The new movie should be good if it is done right and if it is given more of an Iron Man feel rather than Fantastic Four. I want to see more of the original comic style for the movie, not the bloody 80s series style (even though I love the 80 series, that wasnt the true TMNT)
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 10/21/2009, 4:47 PM
well if they're doing it cg, I'd imagine then it would follow that plot. I really liked the cg movie because it acknowledged bot the 2003 cartoon and the original movies so a cartoon in that vain would be cool.

TMNT needs to be back in live action, and it needs to be done right. Look at G.I.Joe, they brought that back to live action and kids now know what that is. Bring on the live action!
