Paramount Comes Under Fire For Explosive TMNT Poster Bearing 9/11 Release Date

The Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot comes out in Australia on September 11th, and some found the international poster (which we've already seen) for the movie displaying that release date to be in bad taste.

As you can see, the below poster for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles depicts the awesome foursome leaping from an exploding building, while at the bottom we have the Australian release date of September 11th displayed. Now I'm sure we don't need to point out the obvious here, but that's just what many felt compelled to do when the poster (Tweeted out earlier today by @ParamountAU but since deleted) sparked outrage. You can read the full extent of the backlash for yourselves HERE and at the link below, but the general consensus seems to be that the one-sheet is "invoking the 9/11 attacks".

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles poster 9/11

I think we can all agree that this probably should have been thought out a bit better, but are people overreacting? Or do you also find this to be in extremely bad taste? Sound off in the usual place.

UPDATE: Paramount has issued the following statement: “We are deeply sorry to have used that artwork for the marketing materials promoting the September 11 opening in Australia," said Paramount Australia in a statement. "Combining that image and date was a mistake. We intended no offense and have taken immediate action to discontinue its use.”

I doubt that went through their mind when they were making the poster.

If you're getting cross with a poster featuring Ninja Turtles you're really not busy enough during your day.

Is anybody stupid enough to think this was purposeful? This is the biggest non-issue I've heard all day. Sure, it's stupid to think nobody caught it during the production process, but it's not purposeful so it doesn't matter.

Not sure what to think of this.

Might be poor marketing, maybe its a Illuminati clue.

Whatever.

"...but the general consensus seems to be that the one-sheet is "invoking the 9/11 attacks" Yeah, I see where it says "f*ck those 3,000 people, get over it". What a ridiculous thing to bitch about.

Remember when people was bitching over Mad Men because the figure was falling "between" the buildings in the intro.

At least they didn't release that shit in the U.S. This film would be boycotted, make $5, would be on every news/talk show for a month, and no one that had to do with this film would ever have a job again.

What they need to do is just retire that date like a sports jersey and also force Jena Malone to sleep with me.

What ReddestHood said. Had this happened here in the states, maybe a different story, although, I still don't see it with this poster.

Anybody watch that episode in Smallville where Zod was building those twin towers only to have Clark bring them down with his heat vision? Crazy thing nobody was hurt during this event. My point is, nobody gave a shit about that.

The poor turtle designs & Swiss army knife Shredder are the real problems of the film.

The poster is in poor taste considering the date of release but the world has bigger problems than this.

Posters are a marketing too to get attention...on purpose or not they are getting attention now.

Erm... is it the exploding skyscraper with the addition of the date that makes people mad or just the date?

Should be a big deal if it came out on 9/11 in AMERICA. Who cares if it comes out in Australia on that day.

Come on, America. You got what you wanted out of 9/11 thirteen years ago. Let it rest.
