William Fichtner Joins TMNT; Is He Playing Shredder?

Fichtner's exact role isn't revealed in the report from Deadline, but they do say he'll play a character with "iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology". Shredder is Japanese in TMNT lore of course, but would that stop Michael Bay and co.?

William Fichtner will next be seen as the villain in Disney's The Lone Ranger, but is he about to get his evil on for Jonathan Liebesman's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot too? Deadline report that the brilliant actor has joined the cast, but not which character he'll play. They do however state that he'll play a lead role "with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology". Now unless he's Casey Jones (unlikely) that doesn't leave too many options to my mind -- could he be playing The Shredder? That character is Japanese of course, but being that Danny Woodburn has been cast as the just-as-Japanese Splinter, I'm thinking there's not too much attention being paid to the mythology here. What do you guys think? Either way, he's a great addition to the cast.

I heard Krang was the villain in this one, I thought they would be saving the Shredder for the sequel. Will be interesting to see new plot developments when they get released.

@@Superguy15 set picks have shown what appears to be the "foot clan" are in the movie, they're Shredders foot soldiers, so he'll most likely be the main villian

I agree, I'd rather a build up to the Shredder character and not have him feature in this movie. Do a 'joker card' style hint at the end

a) Has a terrible agent,

b) Is being blackmailed into participating in this project because someone has some compromising photos of him, and/or

c) He has some enormous Michael Jordan-sized gambling debts.

Well look, a character with "iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology" can only be a few! It's not April's boss (at least I hope not!), it's not feckin Bebop or Rocksteady. If not a villain and not Shredder, then who?

Thing is splinter is a rat and so he honestly doesn't need to be played by an Asian actor. Shredder on the other hand is a Japanese man.

Earlier scripts had changed "Shredder" into Us Army Col. Shrader, which sucks, but would make sense with this casting. Also, McGee, I've seen Iron Man 3 but it hasn't even been out for a week, cool it on the spoilers, Cancer Boy.

Um... you realize it helps that Woodburn is the perfect height, so MoCapping him would be a breeze (as opposed to them going with a lifeless CGI construct). And given that Splinter spoke nothing but "rat" until he was mutated in America,the rat's country of origin is irrelevant so long as the performance delivers.

I'm just hoping they're not keeping the Col. Shrader character from the previous script in lieu of Shredder, as that would kind of suck in uncomfortable ways. Still, I love Fitchner (he's pretty much the single reason I'll consider seeing Lone Ranger), so I'll keep an open mind about who he's playing.

Didnt like how they skipped shredder in the last movie, when i first watched it and like right at the beginning the narrator explains oh yeah! They beat shredder already in this cannon so...... and i was like ah shit :/

TerminalYoyd splinter doesnt really NEED to be played by a japanese man bcuz dudes a rat unless they show him before he turns into a rat, but sometimes his origin is different i believe his first origin is that hes a rat studying his master hamato yoshi and then he turns into a personified rat

Splinter was a Japanese rat and has always been depicted as being of Japanese origin and manner. What's more, the most recent incarnations actually had him be Hamato Yoshi himself and not the rat. Either way, Woodburn is either going to put on a ridiculous accent OR voice Splinter as a New Yoyk wise-ass..you ok with either of those?

i could definitely see him as Baxter Stockman, he also was more prominent role in the original comic series than Shredder.

Shredder is an Asian stereotype. Make him a crackheaded drunk actor and revealed the REAL Shredder to be Fabio's little brother.
