The Flash may not be a critical disaster on the same level as last October's Black Adam, but with an opening weekend that's somehow even worse than that movie, it's another major DCEU embarrassment for Warner Bros.
For any number of reasons, The Flash didn't resonate with moviegoers, hence why it received a disappointing B CinemaScore. Now, all signs point to a disastrous second weekend and it's hard not to question how wise it was to announce Andy Muschietti as The Brave and the Bold's director last Friday.
While the filmmaker might have a future at DC Studios, the Scarlet Speedster is likely to be put on the shelf for the foreseeable future, a shame considering what a great character Barry Allen is on the page.
DC Studios, however, may have plans to return to Central City in an upcoming Max TV series.
According to the r/DCEULeaks moderators, a verified source has confirmed a project centred around The Rogues is in the works for DCU's "Chapter 2." Described as a "crime/heist series," we don't have any details to share beyond that but it certainly sounds like the sort of project which would appeal to James Gunn.
With the DCEU's Fastest Man Alive stranded in an alternate timeline, perhaps the idea was to show what would become of Central City without him. We'd guess those plans have changed after the response to The Flash, anyway.
In the comics, The Rogues is a group of villains whose known members have included Captain Cold, Abra Kadabra, Mirror Master, Heat Wave, the Golden Glider, the Weather Wizard, the Trickster, the Pied Piper, the Top, and Captain Boomerang.
We'll see if this pans out but Warner Bros. and DC Studios' plans for The Flash franchise are surely going to undergo some major adjustments after this past weekend.
