THE FLASH: What Role Is John Wesley Shipp (90's Flash) Playing?

Could he be playing Barry Allen's father? Or could he be playing someone even more important?

Around 3 months ago (February 11th, to be precise), John Wesley Shipp, who is widely known for playing Barry Allen in the 90's TV Show "The Flash", was cast on a mysterious role by The Flash's (2014) producers. Actually, he was cast to appear from the very first episode but... Who will he be playing? I have two possible candidates.

The first and most likely one is Barry Allen's father. As we can see in the 5-minute trailer which I guess we've all watched by now (and if you haven't, what are you waiting for?), there's a sneak peek of Nora Allen's death. We can see his dad almost inmediately after, watching horrified alongside Barry. I noticed his and John's faces are pretty similar.

The second theory is a bit more interesting, although not that likely.  As we can see in Nora's death scene, and as we know thanks to Barry, there is a man inside the tornado. Those who already saw/read Flashpoint (2011) know who he is. When I saw Professor Zoom's body, he reminded me of certain someone...
