Nathan Fillion Wants To Be The Greatest American Hero!

Remember this show? A lot of you will not have been alive when it originally aired, but I'm sure you will have heard of it. Serenity's Nathan Fillion has expressed interest in a remake.

Nathan Fillion is a self proclaimed geek, and a huge fan of comics, movies, popular culture. He has said it is a dream of his to play a super hero on screen and despite being a huge fan favorite to play Green Lantern, this still has not happened...yet...

Cinema Blend are reporting that Fillion has revealed in a interview that he would like to star as The Greatest American Hero in a remake of the TV Show of the same name...

“With the technology we have available today for effects, I'd say it's largely the same idea, the same story, but the suit would be able to change and morph into whatever it is you needed him to do. So it could become armor, a scuba suit -- you could do that stuff.”

For those of you unfamiliar with the show, it was a comedy-drama about a school teacher that is given a magical red suit by a bunch of aliens. He then sets about reinventing himself as a superhero. It ran from 1981 to 1983 on ABC. It premiered as a two hour movie pilot on March 18, 1981. It starred William Katt as the teacher Ralph Hinkley (later Hanley), Robert Culp as FBI Agent Bill Maxwell, and Connie Sellecca as lawyer Pam Davidson.

Its mainly remembered these days for its theme song, "Believe It Or Not"..heres a clip, sorry for the quality!

I can't actually remember if this show was up to much, all I know is that I absolutely loved it as a kid. Anyway, Fillion would seem like a great choice for this sort of movie, I'm just disappointed he's not in the running for a more well known and serious comic hero:(

ROR @ P.s. I still think he'd make an amazing ALAN SCOTT though, but he would make a great, Greatest American hero!!

Who says I didn't mean Cap:) Nah, Fillion could probably pull it off but he wouldn't be a real contender for me.

I also thought you were referring to Captain America. This show looks pretty lame.

I think this is Awesome!! Well the fact that they want to do a remake is awesome not sure if Fillion is the guy for the role.. maybe if they didn't take it too far in the comedic direction.. the best episodes where the more serious ones.. the best comedies were about Ralph figuring out how to use the suit...

I was just talking generally. I really think he would have made a great GL, but there are others he could play very well too.

The show does look very dated now, but when i was a kid it was the best thing ever. Apparently it still holds up story and acting wise...I might check out an ep on youtube.

ROR @ Yeah but now RYAN REYNOLDS has got it, howz about ALAN SCOTT??

WB/DC should try out a JSA movie, with the quality of WATCHMEN, it would be amazing!

Cool. I used to love this show when I was younger. If it is well written with a decent director, sure Fillion could pull it off easily.

My sisters and I used to crack up when he would try to run through a wall and end up laid out and half knocked out

I am a Firefly fan. I would LOVE to see Captain Reynolds do another geek role.

I would be very stoked if this actually happens. Firefly is bad ass and Castle isn't too bad either. Would love to see a GAH movie. The show is still good, but it doesn't hold up in quality after all these years.

I think it is funny that he wants to play "The Greatest American Hero" and he is Canadian.

Nathan Fillion is an awesome actor, Castle is currently one of my favorite shows on television mostly because of him, that and the female lead is pretty hot.

@LEEE777 - If you want to see him in a kind of comedy check out Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog.

I don't remember this show at all, but I dig Fillion. He deserves a franchise, after Green Lantern was dangled in front of his face by the fans!

Dunno if GREATEST AMERICAN HERO would pass the first movie, but you never know??

SPILOX @ Cool bud, i'll deff check them out too!!

He's been a superhero before (sort of)...Dr. Horrible's Sing Along! I'd love to see him play another though. He's lots of fun and a great actor. I miss Firefly.

I hope he would play up the dork factor. That was part of the appeal of the show. Fillion doesn't look like a dork the way that William Katt does/did. I too loved the show everything from the hapless hero to the theme song. With this popular move to turn popular TV shows from yesteryear into film, they tend to over imagine and totally miss the original spirit of the show. That is always my concern. So when I hear they're bringing a TV show I liked as a kid, I grit my teeth. Most of the time when they had turned these things into film (i.e. Dukes of Hazzard and Starsky and Hutch) they goofed it up more than they improved upon it.

this show was great. one of my all time favorites. even family guy did a spoof so its definately got the pop culture rememberance factor. it also had eddie from eddie in the cruisers so that was cool too. great show and fillion could definately pull it off.

@ Beckala: I can't remember which season it was in. It was probably season 4.

It was this incredibly sad Kate flashback in which Fillion played a cop. She fell in love with him but eventually is forced to leave him because she knows the FBI will track her down eventually. Happiness and a chance at a new life so close yet so far. :(

Wow necrosage, he has been in a lot more stuff than I thought. I have no idea who that superhero is but Nathan Fillion is just the meaning of awesome. Anybody who has watched Firefly, Serenity, Castle, Dr Horrible's sing along blog or played Halo 3 ODST will know how awesome he is and it is a damn shame he hasnt been in a comic book movie yet.

So Nathan Fillion for Alan Scott!
