Nathan Fillion is a self proclaimed geek, and a huge fan of comics, movies, popular culture. He has said it is a dream of his to play a super hero on screen and despite being a huge fan favorite to play Green Lantern, this still has not happened...yet...
Cinema Blend are reporting that Fillion has revealed in a interview that he would like to star as The Greatest American Hero in a remake of the TV Show of the same name...
“With the technology we have available today for effects, I'd say it's largely the same idea, the same story, but the suit would be able to change and morph into whatever it is you needed him to do. So it could become armor, a scuba suit -- you could do that stuff.”
For those of you unfamiliar with the show, it was a comedy-drama about a school teacher that is given a magical red suit by a bunch of aliens. He then sets about reinventing himself as a superhero. It ran from 1981 to 1983 on ABC. It premiered as a two hour movie pilot on March 18, 1981. It starred William Katt as the teacher Ralph Hinkley (later Hanley), Robert Culp as FBI Agent Bill Maxwell, and Connie Sellecca as lawyer Pam Davidson.
Its mainly remembered these days for its theme song, "Believe It Or Not"..heres a clip, sorry for the quality!
I can't actually remember if this show was up to much, all I know is that I absolutely loved it as a kid. Anyway, Fillion would seem like a great choice for this sort of movie, I'm just disappointed he's not in the running for a more well known and serious comic hero:(
