Adriana Barraza Cut From THOR's Final Product!

Kenneth Branagh has apparently decided to cut out the Academy Award nominee's portion of the film.

I came across an article (in Spanish) explaining that Academy Award-nominated actress Adriana Barraza's role - Isabel Alvarez - in Kenneth Branagh's THOR has actually been cut out from the final product. Google Translated, words may not be entirely clear, but understandable. Here is the translation below:

Adriana Barraza sat out the final assembly of Thor, made by the director Kenneth Branagh, [who] sent a letter of apology [from] his representative. The letter explained the reasons for the cut in the editing room and that [Branagh] was interested in returning to work with her in the future.

"I'm sorry, yes, because the film is very good, and because it alternated with tremendous actors that I admire very much but, well, I have clear that this is the cinema, which will be neither the first nor the last time a Scenes are cut," said the actress.

Her "Isabel Alvarez" role involved owning the cafe she frequents the protagonist in his alter ego as a mortal. In the trailer for the film, she can be seen a part of a scene that takes place in the premises."

So from the translation, it appears that Kenneth Branagh decided to not use footage with Barraza and wrote an apology letter to her. It also seems that her role was the owner of that cafe where we see Thor smash that coffee mug.

The final scene between her and Hemsworth seemed slightly cheesy but actually a perfect turning point for his character. It's a shame

Marvel hasn't released any "Director's Cut" for any of there movies. Why would "Thor" be any different? It will probably just show up in the special features.

Hey D-Adder, Fox made X-2 not Marvel. Marvel only has 3 movies released so far, check your facts before talking...

@Choppaholic26 - No I don't think so. There's another scene a little after the cup smashing in the script, it involves just her and Thor...I'm thinking that will be the cut.

@Deathadder I personally don't feel that it's that big of a deal. They obviously didn't cut her out because of her race, so they probably have a legitimate reason. Now it might be different if Marvel films were known for being white-washed, but that has never been the case. Heck, Thor has Idris Elba and Tadanobu Asano, which proves that diversity is a goal for Marvel films.

And for the record, Dania Ramirez played Callisto in X-Men: The Last Stand, so that proves that Latino actors are just as significant.

Hey D-Adder, you had me at "diverse" Uckk. Why must everything become a race issue? Neo-Nazis whining about Heimdall being black, you about the Latinos. Soon we'll be hearing there isn't enough albino Lithuanian representation. This is not about race. It's a plot flow issue. Scenes are cut all the time because they often interrupt the flow of the movie. You make it sound like Marvel execs came in and said, "What? What's this I see in your film, Kenneth Branagh? Is that a Latino in your movie? Cut that old Latino brawd out."

And I love that you, of course, reference The Dark Knight. How surprising. I also assume you are only concerned with Latino representation since you fail to mention that they cast a black man as an Asgardian, an Asian man as another Asgardian and the director of SHIELD (trumps mayor of Gotham) is also played by a black man in a 9 picture deal. Ooo those awful Marvel racists, right.

Have you ever considered that Latinos haven't been cast because the pool of Latino actors is a much smaller one to choose from. Perhaps they should have cast lifeless Penelope Cruz as Jane Foster. I would love to see those scenes: an Australian doing a Brit accent opposite a woman hissing and rolling all her R's back at him. "He said his name was, ThoRrrr."

@Grayson9 That Penelope Cruz bit was the funniest thing I've read all day.

I think it's just prolly the scene she and thor had, although, movies tend to shoot a lot of extra scenes to see if anything else works beyond the script, it's possible he's talking about an extra scene which he wanted to include but decided not to. So the script as it is will still be intact. I'm sure the cafe scene is still in though.

So is perfectly OK to cast a black actor to play the so-called whitest of all Vikings, but them it's also perfectly OK to cut the ONLY Spanish actress in the movie. Why do I get this eerie funny feeling that it would've been an outrage by most who post here (and they would be up in arms) if she would've been Black? I mean, a lot of PC is about race, right? Is there a hidden RACIST message behind as to why she was cut? I mean, I've seen her act and she's pretty good people!!! Why was she cut in the first place? Well, let's just say that Political Correctness do NOT apply to the Spanish Community as a whole; since there was one individual here who post his concern.

Well at least the director sent an apology letter. Usually they'll just cut the scene and tell them nothing about it. Class act
Original
Original - 3/31/2011, 1:02 PM
Well, at least she took the news like a professional SHOULD; which she most clearly is one... I just don't see the same level of outrage by the very same people who defended that Heimdall should be Black irrespective of just about anyone who opposed it on Planet Earth- and called those who dissented a bunch of racists; including the Producer. I see a double standard as far a PC is concerned- that seems to apply to ONLY a certain minority group.
MaximusRodd
MaximusRodd - 3/31/2011, 4:24 PM
@Original- Way off the mark.
ckirk8
ckirk8 - 3/31/2011, 4:40 PM
@Original I really don't think that her being cut from the film has anything to do with her being a Spanish actress. Kenneth Branagh and the producers aren't that dumb, and they probably really struggled with the decision to cut her portion of the film out because she's so talented.

Plus, they obviously weren't planning to cut her out, or else they would not have cast her in the first place. This seemed like it was a difficult and near-last minute decision.
Original
Original - 4/1/2011, 1:01 PM
I'm not implying otherwise- clirk8. I'm just saying that if she would've been the ONLY Black actress in that movie, and she would've been removed for reasons that had NOTHING to do with race whatsoever- there would've been an outrage of epic proportions regardless; simply because most of these fans would say that they don't want a Black actress in a movie where most, or all are whites- that's what PC is really ALL ABOUT!!! The ONE that keeps bringing up the subject is the Producer- when the subject is already dead and bury. He's the One that called a Black actor to play Heimdall when the comic-book has portrayed that character white through decades. Therefore, he's the ONE creating all of these unwarranted racial tensions to begin with, and people, unfortunately, are falling into the trap.
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 4/2/2011, 1:55 AM
Original She was cast for a part just as Elba was cast for a part. So obviously, race isn't an issue in the casting. Movies get edited and parts get cut. Do you think that all of the scenes Elba shot made the final cut? This actress' part was so small, that when edited, her entire contribution was removed. She understood this and had no ill will about it.

So now, you've pulled out your crystal ball to say that IF someone black was cut "there would've been an outrage of epic proportions". That would be strange (and contradictory to the Elba outcry) considering all the African American characters in the MARVEL movies. It would be very irrational, but I would wonder first of all, why is it NEWS in the first place? I don't even know who this woman is and thought she was white just looking at the picture. There are many variables to guessing an imaginary outcome. But the facts here are; a black actor is playing a character that is white in the comics (didn't hear too much shit about KingPin) and an actress that no one knows was cut from a minor part and happens to be Latino. Whatever.

Start the movie.
