Anthony Hopkins Talks Odin's Beard!

Anthony Hopkins Talks Odin's Beard!

The veteran actor has spoken to a Scottish Newspaper about getting into Odin's wardrobe for Kenneth Branagh's Thor, and compares himself to a certain Scottish comedian.

While talking to The Scottish Herald about playing Thor's Dad Odin, Sir Anthony Hopkins had this to say:

"I’ve already grown a beard in preparation for the role, but when I put on my long wig on I look just like Billy Connelly. In fact I look so much like him I’m thinking maybe I’ll play Odin with a Glasweigan accent."

Go for it Sir! If any of my American brethren don't know who Billy Connelly is, he's a very funny comedian and he looks like this:

I know it's not much, but it is the first we have heard from Hopkins on playing the role. With costumes being fitted and news coming in at a fairly steady pace, it shouldn't be long before we see some set pics.

I love Billy Connolly, he's on my "The Aristocrats" DVD. But there is nothing on gods green earth that would make Anthony Hopkins look like Billy Connolly LOL :P Has anyone ever noticed that Billy Connolly looks like a "whiter" John Cleese? I think it's the chin...

Great find ROR!

Cating Hopkins was a great movie by Marvel - his involvement will more than likely catch the interest of people who would otherwise probably not be all that interested in seeing Thor!

@Arkhamsbellboy- Hey man I'm Scottish ;D

Anyway he's probably talking about Billy's beard from years ago, it was a lot bigger back in the day.

BTW for all you Americans who don't know of Billy Conelly, you guys are missing out, he's funnier than most American comedians that's for sure

@Ryden, we do have our fair share of good comedians.

It's just that the American humor is different, much like some of the UK's comedians don't translate well over here. Like Eddie Izzard.

And Billy Conelly is pretty damn funny, plus he is the Duke from the Boondock Saints!

Shaman - 'The Aristocrats'! OMFG - that movie was soooo wrong on so many levels, I pissed so much laughing so hard I had to change my underwear about 5 times while watching it!

Ryden / ElBicho - Amen to that!

@ Gunsmith: ME TOO!

@ Ror: SWEET ARTICLE!!

I hope that Odin's beard is longer and fuller than that comedian's is.

@ everybody:
Personally I like all of Odin's looks, especially the ones that are over the top.
Hells bells he's the KING OF THE GODS!
Of course his clothes and headwear will be crazy and big and opulent.

@ElBicho- I like a lot of American comedians, it;s just that Billy Connely just seems better, obviously back in the day, he doesn't do much now, other than crappy kids films :(

@TheGuillotine- LOL ;D

Hey, you yanks gave the world Bill Hicks..and for that, I am eternally grateful! I also like Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Dennis Leary(although he ripped off Bill Hicks big time) ..you have some funny guys.

The Aristocrats was hilarious. I told so many variations of that joke..and no one ever really laughs, ..just nervously!

Anthony Hopkins is one of the most phenomenal actors of all time! I don't even care about a movie's title once I find out he's in it. 'The Edge' is one of my favorite movies ever... "What one man can do another can do! Say it with me Bob! What one man can do another can do!"

loganoneil & Ror- YOU KNOW IT!!! I just HAD to buy it when i found it :)) You don't know the real Bob Saget until you've seen this film!!! LOL But i think the most hillarious part is when Kevin Pollack imitates Chris Walken telling the joke, that just made me piss through my nose!!! I was just holding it in too hard LOL :P Damn shame he couldn't give us more :( And what can be said of Gilbert Gottfried that hasn't been said before... "[frick]ing and sucking and [frick]ing and sucking..." LMAO!!! Priceless ;) I just loved all the different variations of it, some were very drastic ones but brilliant none the less :)) AMAZING DOCUMENTARY!!!

Shaman, remember the joke Robbin Williams tells in it about the piano player? I love that one too!

Myth, Tea..I love both of them movies. The Edge is one of the most under rated movies of all time imo, and The Worlds Fastest Indian is a great feel good movie..Hopkins excels in it too.

No Swift, I'm a Paddy, a Biddy, a Mick, a potato eater if you will:)
