Marvel Studios' THOR hits US theatres today, and first boc-office reports for Kenneth Branagh's big screen adaptation suggest it's off to a good start. While it may not be huge as Iron Man, film will definitely win the weekend. From Deadline:

"Studios are predicting a $60+ million domestic weekend opening for Marvel/Disney's Thor with Paramount distributing the Norse God actioner into 3,955 North American theaters today. But the film has been tracking "a notch ahead" of Marvel films like X-Men and Fantastic Four and The Hulk which all did around $55M, but nowhere near the $100+M of Iron Man or Spider-Man. But Thor is off to a good start with $3.25M in midnight box office."

As you know, Fast Five opened last week with a big box-office weekened, and it looks like it will earn around $35 million this weekend.

THOR is getting great reviews and it's truly amazing film. Film already passed a $120 million mark worldwide. If you haven't seen it, be sure to check it out. Stay tuned for full box-office report.

The movie has made a ton of money over seas which means we can predict a sequel.

I feel sorry for any flick going up against Thor. The God of Thunder is going to trounce the competition.

it has already made its budget in just overseas ticket sales. this weekend will pretty much be pure profit. and $3.25 million at one time-slot showing is pretty sweet! modest, but sweet. TDK made $18 million on its midnight showing. but you cant compare Batman (who had previously had several films and is a household name) to Thor. but with 'Thor's fresh rating at rotten tomatoes, im sure it will do pretty decent at the box office and we will totally see a sequel.

Went to an IMAX midnight opening. I loved the movie. I don't know if it beats the first Iron Man, I'd have to see it a couple more times.

That's nothing. "The Dark Knight" took in $18.5 million on its midnight screenings alone. That was a Box office Record. Last year, "Iron Man 2" made $7.5 million on its midnight shows. If this is any sign, expect to see "Thor" peak at under $500 million.

Ok so I have no seen the film yet but a friend of mine (huge Spidey fan) saw it last night and he said the whole theater booed the movie at the end... No lie. He told me that the movie seemed rushed, the 3d sucked, and too much of the movie was Thor without powers which made him hate it. He said he talked to people afterwards that felt the same way. I don't know if this is just overhype before hand or what but it completely shocked me. Needless to say, people in Dallas,'Texas hated Thor

saw it last night!!!! great film!!! Thor was portrayed brilliantly! (never read much of thor so not sure, but i liked it) not sure if it was the best marvel flick so far but well see. gotta see it again. was pretty tired. and btw,was my theater the only one that showed the old GL trailer. i hope so cuz if not then WB/DC just made a VERY bad marketing move and missed out on a chance gain more of an audience with their awesome new trailer! was pretty pissed bout that.

@LMFAO: first mistake was seeing it in 3D. agreed it did seem a little rushed. no one in my theater booed, there were some laughs though at parts that were clearly not intended to make u laugh though :/ But i like it! and i think everyone else in the theater did too!

i'm seeing this tonight in IMAX 3D just because its IMAX.
i have heard nothing but positive remarks for this film (mainly because i turned a deaf ear to the negative bits. jk) and am sure that this is the film to see.

i'm also glad that the God of Thunder has two weeks to play until Pirates shows up.

Very good for a character that isn't a household name like a Batman or Superman. Going at 4 today.

@LMFA0

That's a lie. I saw it at a pre-screening last Saturday with an entire crowd of fans, and everybody cheered at the end. Not only that, but the only people who go to midnight showings are fans, and fans don't boo at a character they love, even if the movie sucked. People cheered at the end of Spider-Man 3, and that movie was an abomination.

@ LMFAO,

I saw the movie last night and people applauded at the end of the movie, it was that good. And most of the movie take place outside of Earth and with Thor having his powers.

Haters gonna gate.

I'm going to see it tomorrow at a matinee. I hope Marvel/Disney doesn't use Ironman's sucess as the "benchmark" for their movie's. Different characters will have different fan base and garner different profits. I really enjoyed The Incredible Hulk and though it didn't do as well as IM, it seems like Marvel Studios bastard child they want to forget. They just haven't come out and said it. Again, looking forward to this and all the CBM's coming out this summer!

I loved THOR, watched last Wednesday. CGI is amazing and fit perfectly in the Avengers Mythos. This movie has its own feel, its own identity and look. Very good adaptation, my only complain would be that the town looks as fake as lady gaga.

Still, worthy of a saturday movie night.

saw the midnight showing, and it was EPIC. Marvel Studios finest movie yet. Loki played by hiddleston i believe was the best casting choice made. That's not to say that all the other choices in this film weren't great, just when watching loki..you don't hate him...you kinda sympathize with the mischief maker. Very very well done. Kenny B did a great movie. Planning on seeing it in IMAX this go around. FOR ASGARD!! hahahaha

Whoa guys I'm just as shocked as y'all. No it's not a lie I am just telling y'all what my buddy who woke me up at 3 in morning told me. No I don't think the movie will be bad or anything, I still can't wait to see it. But the fact remains the people at this theater (Northpark AMC in north Dallas) did not like it. Not saying everywhere was the same at all. My guess is that they heard good reviews, expected way too much, and were disappointed because they didn't see what they expected to see. No harm no foul.

@ LMFAO,

I still find it hard to believe. Maybe those that went to see it there where the local DC fanboys club chapter. The movie is really really good. I can believe a handful of individual among the crowd not liking it, but a whole audience? That's hard to believe.

They would have made more had more theaters had a midnight showing you have to drive an hour to see it at midnight plus they where all in 3D.Marvel better wise up for Captain America or there will be no Avengers.

Oh, I have no doubt that Thor and Captain America will be financially successful and Avengers will be a reality and totally epic.

1. My friend invited me to go with him, I couldn't because I told my gf I would wait to see it with her.
2. He called me because for the past 6 months all I have been able to talk about is Thir and the other movies coming out this summer.
3. He hates DC. the only character of theirs he likes is Flash
4. Why would I lie to a bunch of people I don't know and waste my time commenting on a website if I just made it up?
5. I may have a green lantern avatar but I am not very excited about the movie at all and I typically am a Marvel fanboy. Just so happens that I like green lantern a lot

Well, nobody clapped at the end of the movie at mine. But they didn't boo. Heard some clapping during Stan Lee's cameo. "Did it work?" Haha, that was so awesome!

I enjoyed this movie a lot. But it did have some area's where it felt rushed. and that terrible line from natilie portman "Oh. My. God" Lots of cringing, man... Lots of cringing. I'd prolly give this an 8 or 9 out of 10.

@LMFAO....maybe you're a loser? I don't know. Why would anyone go out of their way to post something like you did? Think about it.

BTW, I wasn't calling you a loser. I saw a question in there and wanted a try at it. Sorry if I'm wrong.....loser...LOL!
