When asked how Branagh will be juggling his currant film schedule regarding his upcoming project's The Wallanders and Thor, Branagh had this to say:

"Well, I'm working currently on Thor for Marvel and we're planning that one. We're having a great time at the moment. We're in intense pre-production," Branagh states. "I shoot Thor in January of next year and because the time of release has been moved, it's allowed me to have a moment in the summer where I can shoot the Wallanders."

Branagh goes on to say:

"And, strangely, there's a weird, pleasing connection between the Swedish Wallander and the Nordic Thor. And as I've played a lot of Danish Hamlets, I feel as though my Scandinavian trilogy is forming."

Branagh also confirmed the casting rumor of his award winning co-star. Tom Hiddleston is being considered for a role in Thor. No word yet on what that role will be. Branagh states: "Tom Hiddleston is a great actor and he, amongst a number of others, has been part of the group we've spoken to and all that's still a work in progress."

Thor is scheduled for a release date of May 20, 2011.

I saw Wallander, and Hiddleston was completely forgettable... maybe he could play Viking in the background #2, although they're probably looking at him for the role of Loki.

he looks like he could be a good Loki, but depending on his acting chops of course...I still like the idea of Hartnett as Loki though, I think he could do a great job with it

He could pull off a decent Fandral, if he bulked up a bit.

Wouldn't mind seeing him play Loki, or a supporting character, but Thor? Naw.

I don't know if we'll see Blake at least not until the end of the movie. From what I understand they are going with an epic Norse story rather than having him on Earth at all. That was the last I heard. Anybody else know anything pertaining to the story?

He does look a lot like Fandral from the Warriors Three?!.. Good call Odisnson1!

JamesH - 4/30/2009, 6:44 PM
Thor? nope... but Fandral, Loki or even Blake would be possible roles for the guy.

They should just cast megan fox as thor and get it over with. IM ok with those kind of liberties. Well, i have been drinking. And i pronounced that with a beaann.

Not sure if he has the look I'm thinking of for Thor, but definitely one of the Warriors Three.

Am I the only one who's scared, btw, that Volstagg is going to be played by one of the "fat comedians" (Jack Black, for example) and going to be the retarded fat guy comic relief?

I'm also hoping they get a guy for Thor that's not bulgy muscles, but someone who is defined and fills out the suit nicely. This has worked for characters like Superman before.

What we don't see is Branagh has been pumping and he's going to announce himself in the title role. :3

He looks LOKI!!!! An @ ALTEN2345 @ Dunno dude, but that's how THOR should play out an with the coming to EARTH and Blake at the end or the last ten minutes!!! ; ) Though we could have him in a little bit of the Past on EARTH through the movie maybe!

JoshWilding - 5/1/2009, 8:35 AM
i just hope this isnt going to be a marvel lord of the rings and will instead be Thor in the real world with just the beginning being a brief set up in Asgard

JoshWilding - 5/1/2009, 11:02 AM
LEEE777-Im sorry man, but i have to diagree, lol! I would be happy for the first part to be a young Thor but then the main movie being Donald Blake becoming Thor and how Thor copes with being banished to Earth by Odin as I think he was in the original comic books. Still I will be happy with a 50/50 split-then everyones happy i guess!
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 5/1/2009, 12:10 PM
50/50 I SAY YEE!!!! Heh heh! Well JOSH to be truthful id love either way!!! The only way to F THOR up is if they go with Lame A$$ Ultimate Greenpeace THOR!!! As long as its proper THOR im gonna be happy!!! Was THOR ever young then??? He looks the same in Viking days, hint hint, id love to see even for 5 minutes with or battling Old day Vikings! Also i hope they don't mess up LOKI and do a GHOST RIDER on us!!!

Other than a fart, Branagh didn't "let go" of anything here. So he'll play Blake's ant's nephew on her husband's side or somethin... wow... now that's news...
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 5/1/2009, 12:53 PM
LEEE777-yeah, 50/50 is good for me too! i think having iron man and the rest of the avengers maybe doubt that he is a god to begin with like in the ultimates MIGHT work but otherwise i would hate to see that thor as well! I never used to be a huge Thor fan (until the recent JMS run) but I think there was a series of comic books by Stan Lee with some storis about a young Thor. I'll be happy as long as I see him in the most recent Thor costume, not some modern looking piece of crap again like in the ultimate version!

Oddfellow,
I'd hate to see someone like Jack Black or anyone simliar, really, in this movie. And I don't think its likely, either. Branagh has demonstrated himself in past projects to be a fairly classy guy, who has a firm understanding that humour can be subtle, and is context sensitive. I honestly can't even imagine him being a fan of that kind of way too over the top 'humour'.
ManThing
ManThing - 5/1/2009, 2:31 PM
You know what I would do if I were in Branaugh's shoes?

Since Don Blake and Thor really look nothing alike, why not take a two pronged approach and hire two different guys? One to play Donald Blake and one to play Thor. Get any good actor, make their hair blonde and bam you have your Don Blake. But on the Thor side what i would do would be to find a body builder with long hair and have them work day and night for a month or two with the best acting and speech coaches in the business. Mold them to fit the role so to speak. Thor isn't exactly a blabber mouth anyway. It COULD work.

That would satisfy everyone, myself included.

Juggs: I agree completely, and I hope that's what they've been planning to do all along! It's funny, I just ASSUMED that's what they were going to do, but then it struck me... Noone has said that they are casting Donald Blake and Thor as two seperate roles?
CRAP!!! lol

Your not alone,,, i sorta assumed that too lol! : D

Be patient, Branagh is anal about getting the smallest detail right, he will do everything in his power to make you think you are in the comics, even if he has to tell Thor's story in a 4 hour move, his Hamlet was a great and successful movie and it ended up being over 4 hours, but it is the most accurate film version to date.

Branagh will deliver the Thor movie we have been waiting for. He is probably one of the few directors in hollywood that could even hope to tie Thor into the Avengers.

HAWK out

@ LEEE777 & Adamant877: here's what I want to know... If we can think of this, why can't Branaugh? And why on earth did u guys assume that? I just got thru watching a movie in which Cyclop's optic blasts can heat adamantium to red hot, and so it wouldn't surprise me at all that Branaugh would make Blake and Thor look the same.

These directors and writers take a good thing and do something stupid with it.

And Hawk, I wish I had your optimism, but thus far there is no reason to have any of that at all!
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 5/2/2009, 9:06 AM
I am going by the level of his previous movies, all of which respected the source material. As I said Branagh is anal about getting things right, and knowing him it will be the length of Lord of the Rings, all of em.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 5/2/2009, 9:49 AM
god, i hope it will be two seperate actors for Thor and Donald Blake...now i have images of Blake tearing open his shirt superman style to reveal the thor costume underneath. please dont screw this film up Brannagh!!!

LEEE777 - 5/2/2009, 2:07 PM
JUGGS @ I dunno man, infact im easy either way, what i wont be easy with is if they turn THOR into that LAME A$$ed ULTIMATE THOR!!! YES i hate the ULTIMATE morons! Why dont we have Zombie CAP in the CAPTAIN AMERICA flick lol! Well!!! Yeah your right @ HAWK @ ive said stuff like that too, we can only hope its as EPIC as that!
