In a recent interview with Movieline, Jeremy Renner was asked to shed some light on the rumors surrounding his possible role as Hawkeye in Thor.





ML: One last thing. There was a rumor floating around that you’d play Hawkeye in Thor. Did that ever pan out?

JR: That was just one of those things that got blown way out of proportion. It was an idea. Those Marvel guys, I’m a big fan of them. They’re so smart about how they want to do these things — they have Captain America, and Thor coming around, Iron Man 2, and then I happen to know Zak Penn, who’s writing The Avengers. So they thought Hawkeye is an interesting role, and asked me if I knew anything about him. I said no, so they gave me their sort of spiel on what he was, and I thought that it was kind of interesting. The only reason it came out this early, because Avengers is two years away, is that they’re thinking okay, we may throw him in Thor, we may not, as a cameo. You know what I mean? So there’s truth that we talked about it, but there’s no truth to me doing it.





This still doesn't sound like a definite yay or nay to me.

I'm not sure what to make of this.
This sounds to me like the news leaked too soon and he's not doing it (YET).

bleed: He never actually said he was going to do it. But from the way he worded his answer, it looks to me like he may have said too much too soon.

And yes, it does appear as though Hawkeye is still slated for The Avengers. His cameo in Thor looks questionable, at best.

I agree, it seems like he's hinting at having the role but unsure if there will be a Thor cameo.

Renner would own as Hawkeye, I'd be more than satisfied if he was cast.

Oh yeah, AND A DAMN CAPTAIN AMERICA CASTING ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

Tyler: I'm with you on that. I think Pine would be the best Hawkeye they could get.
Renner would be my next choice, but by no means would it be a downgrade.

Great find HAWKS!

I was the one who spotted the quote in 'Total Film' where he mentioned playing Hawkeye and during the pretty large response that article got I actually really came around to the idea of him playing Hawkeye and was hoping that he would indeed be cast! ;(

TYLER: Hell yeah to Chris Pine as Hawkeye - though I really came around to Renner, Pine has been my first choice for a while as well because as you rightly said, he is perfect for the part!!

And hell yeah HAWKS - we need some Captain America casting news ASAP!!! Hell, at this point I'd be happy to just get some news on when they actually plan on announcing who they've cast! Could they be holding out until Comic-Con? I doubt it because they start filming in June dont they? Dammit, too many questions and not enough answers, lol! :D

He's basically saying that he's talked to Marvel about the character, but nothing's official.

The article about this whole deal (by Josh) didn't say that Renner would be Hawkeye, it said something along the lines of them talking about the role to him, which is basically what Renner confirms here. So, in conclusion, Josh's article was correct.

Like I said, I would be one happy camper if Renner was cast. He's an excellent actor, and deserves a mainstream role.

@Enrico: I'm betting that Red Skull will be the primary antagonist. Zemo and Skull both have the Nazi thing going on, so we could see both.

Renner would have been cool, but there are probably better people for it than him. I think Pine might be better for it too @JOSHW.

But who really gives a shit about Hawkeye. We need some Captain America news. Seeing Hawkeye wont even be possble until the studio starts moveing its ass on Captain America to make The Avengers

I've talked to Marvel and some prospective filmakers. They want me to play Hawkeye, but the scripts aren't solid and I haven't yet signed a contract. So, they told me to tell you that I voluteered too much information.

As I said earlier and Tyler reiterated, I don't by any means think this means Hawkeye isn't in the Avengers or that it won't be Renner. I think he spoke to soon and Marvel didn't want the imformation out yet.

I do believe Marvel isn't sure about placing Barton in Thor at this point.

I love thie type of statement.

@Enrico: You might want to keep that to yourself! LOL! :) I think it would be cool if they were both competing to kill Cap. I'd like more of a focus on Red Skull though, because he's such a major influence on the Marvel U.
